I wouldn’t comment IRL and am not part of the Stasi post on FB with “reported to police” written in capitals which I am quietly finding quite amusing.

But a few people are posting are posting stuff on SM with “and before you judge me XYZ”

Friend who posted last weekend “having a bonfire this afternoon so just letting all my neighbours on here no so you can shut your windows” erm - you aren’t supposed to be having bonfires because of the risk of added pressure on the emergency services if something goes wrong, everyone is cooped up inside and it’s foul and some of those people might be shielding because of impaired lung capacity.

Photos of children on a bouncy castle in the back yard, “before you judge me there was no contact and the guy cleaned it all” yes but the point is it’s not exactly an essential fucking journey is it?!

And the people moaning about traffic on the roads - erm you were there too but your reason is “justified” because you are a key worker? “The park/beach was so crowded” so I came home - BUT YOU WERE THERE TOO!!!!

Both carry risk of infection.
One is an essential journey to obtain food.
The other isn’t.
If you do both, you double your risk

Exactly

Once again.

People who aren’t quite getting it...
Ethelfleda · 08/05/2020 20:12

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that a grown woman cannot distinguish between law and government propaganda

No you are not. You can clearly tell that I know the difference. However, I am choosing to stick to the message as the message refers to reducing instances of infection. I am not individualistic enough to try and twist the exact word of the legislation in order to increase the risk of me potentially infecting someone else with something that could kill them.

Ethelfleda · 08/05/2020 20:14

Alsohuman you are a raving pedant. An intelligent one, I give you. But a pedant nonetheless.

At the end of the day, if I visited my mom and then gave her Covid inadvertently, and she ended up seriously ill or worse... I wouldn’t be arguing with a virus over the semantics of the legislation.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 20:14

I find your really sneery posts really fucking offensive actually.

You are twisting the wording of the legislation to do what the fuck your want by the sounds of it - both of you, and putting people like me at risk.

Who the hell do both of you think you are to suggest you know better than the experts who are advising the government?

You are fucking dangerous the pair of you.

The bouncey castle guy is allowed to travel for work.

Look if you’re going to get your arse in your hands at least try to spend a few mins reading rhe guidance.

People can travel for work. Bonfires are permitted in most places. People are allowed to go for exercise on a beach. People are allowed to travel for work. Both key workers and others.

At least try to find some rule breaking to get all upset about and not your personal version of rhe rules.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 20:20

As stated the friendly advice/request from the fire service

Dunning-Kruger effect again Wink

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 08/05/2020 20:27

It is really troubling when people genuinely believe that web posts from Police/Fire services/.gov website have the same weight as actual legislation.

I'm not sure what the answer is, perhaps basic Constitutional and Administrative Law should be taught as part of PHSE education in schools?

Its really shocking that adults (and presumably parents) are going through life being quite so spectacularly ill-informed.

Are you passing this twaddle on to your DCs too?

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 20:29

WTAF?

So you will ignore a polite request from the local fire service not to have a bonfire because you have some superior knowledge about their capacity and you can carry on as you damn well please?

You are absolutely unbelievable.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 08/05/2020 20:34

The point is, you can't purport to have statutory authority that you do not possess - It's an offence under the Administration of Justice Act 1970

People should take it as exactly what it is, a request, with no force of law behind it whatsoever.

If they want to post it on their website, then they should also be made to state clearly underneath that it is advisory only.

Right, so a trip to burger King, Costa, KFC, my local chip shop is clearly essential just cos it involves food.

Trip to B&q is clearly essential because there's a 0.00001% chance I might be buying something to fix my boiler or a light bulb.

Trip to b&m/poundland/home bargains is clearly essential, like anyone does their weekly shop there, just cos they've got a few bottles of milk and loaves of bread.

I'm just reading between the lines with my common sense, we're being told it's a thin black line but actually it's a fucking massive grey one.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 20:36

And absolutely no social conscience.

Yawn yawn ! I'm soo bored of the covid police!!! Really wish there were more covid scientist and doctors - that's what we need right now !

Bobleywobley · 08/05/2020 20:37

Wow, so many people just not getting it. Trying to say the death rate in the UK isnt too bad, excusing behaviour of those bending the rules and spreading the virus. I find the attitudes irresponsible and depressing.

LellyMcKelly · 08/05/2020 20:38

Looks like the government’s herd immunity strategy is working perfectly. Except it’s not so much herd immunity as thinning out the herd. Think of the savings if you don’t have to pay for the disabled, the old, and the thick. This is social Darwinism in action.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 08/05/2020 20:40

You are an absolute arse

When you start playing the man, not the ball, you've immediately lost the debate.

Of course I taught my children to respect professional advice.

Which is what is on the Fire Service website.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 08/05/2020 20:46

You are a dangerous, selfish, person

You're doing it again - please feel free to propose a counter argument, but personal attacks really aren't in the spirit of debate.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 08/05/2020 20:47

Of course I taught my children to respect professional advice

I teach my DCs to question and challenge - that's perhaps the difference between us.

IvinghoeBeacon · 08/05/2020 20:48

People can discuss the difference between the law and general guidance without actually going against that guidance. Just because someone doesn’t agree with the guidelines or wants to clarify the terms and conditions doesn’t mean they won’t abide by it. I think many of the lockdown restrictions are illogical, and some of them out and out cruel and unjustified, but I abide by them. And I’m also allowed to talk about how I disagree with them or find them heartless and unjustified.

MadameBee · 08/05/2020 20:51

Great I bet school love your children questioning and challenging 👍🏻

The fire service have politely asked people not to have bonfires (just an example) and laid out their reasons why.

What is there to question and challenge about that? You cannot guarantee 100% that your bonfire isn’t going to get out of control or cause one of your neighbours discomfort/fear.

Bobleywobley · 08/05/2020 20:51

The UK is 4th worse in Europe for deaths for 100,000 of population, and if FT estimates of actual figures are correct, we are probably actually the worst in Europe. Nothing to be blase about.
