To think that unlike Adele, lots of us are getting bigger after lockdown?

Having been reading about Adele's amazing weight loss, I feel as though I've performed a similar feat in reverse! I'm normally slim and healthy, I haven't been overeating that much during lockdown, so assume that it's just that I'm less active. I weighed myself this morning and have put on over half a stone! Speaking to friends, quite a few seem to have the same issue. AIBU to think that lots of people are gaining weight during lockdown? Or am I in denial and others are getting healthier, like Adele?

why do posters think Adele should be honest about how she lost weight? Surely its not anyones business but hers?

Needmoresleep · 07/05/2020 11:00

Driving, do tell us where you live. Then lots of us can drive there to enjoy safe exercise.

Ohhh, I forgot. Aren’t people in rural areas protesting when city folk get in their cars for day trips to less crowded places. Because they are OK, but do not see why they should share their empty spaces with others.

Baskininthegarden · 07/05/2020 11:01

so shes lost under 3lbs a month over the last 3 years that shes been out of the public eye and trying to lose weight.. sounds very healthy and sustainable to me!

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/05/2020 11:03

I think she’s had a gastric band or similar, that is a drastic change very quickly and she has that drawn look in the face that comes with very very rapid weight loss.

Macncheeseballs · 07/05/2020 11:05

The night sky, dont give up, there are other ways to stay fit without running

Mikki2019 · 07/05/2020 11:05

Ah really enjoying the purser ‘spirit of the law ‘

Coffeecak3 · 07/05/2020 11:06

Nearly everyone I speak to has upped their exercise routine, I just walk the dog.
Bizarrely when I do my weekly shop my Fitbit records almost double steps. Who new a supermarket shop counted as exercise.

Weight

WindsorBlues · 07/05/2020 11:16

The part of me that has got skinnier is my fingers Grin none of my rings fit any more. I thought I'd put weight on during lockdown since I can't get to the gym.

AnotheChinHair · 07/05/2020 11:18

How Adele has managed to shift the weight is no one's business but her own. She looked beautiful before, she looks beautiful and healthy now.

Lockdown has given me the time and headspace to take a look at myself, my habits, etc. I got overweight due to stress and emotional eating. Being able to slow down has given me the time to cook proper meals and stop snacking all day long.

Hopefully I have started losing weight. I am also on week 5 on the Couch to 5K and do the 30 day shred. I could never find the time or energy to exercise before.

Basically you've lost the argument about exercising for over an hour, but are now mudslinging about people who love rurally? Right.

If you need to drive a short distance to exercise somewhere quiet, do so. It's legal and reduces risk. But just as I can't drive to a neighbouring county for a change of scene, you can't hop in the car for a few hours to go somewhere miles away either. The guidance regarding unnecessary leisure travel applies to everyone.

If lots of rural tourists had been rocking up to London to see the sights during lockdown you might have a point, but they aren't, are they?

Sigh. I’ve had this discussion on another thread. People in rural areas are not just one homogenous group. More than happy for city dwellers to come and use the beautiful countryside here. None ever do though (pre or during lockdown), as it’s not ‘fashionable’ like the Peak District or the Cotswolds.
Forgive me if I don’t DM you my address though, you sound angry. And I don’t want an angry dementor on my doorstep.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 07/05/2020 11:20

The point is that the law is silent on how long you should spend outside exercising. So all those bleating on about the fact that it places no express limit on the amount of time you can spend outside are making a huge leap to the conclusion that you can therefore spend as much time outside as you want, as long as you are exercising. It’s not about applying your own personal pseudo-scientific COVID transmission risk assessment. It’s about not taking the piss. And LOL to whoever said that if people choose to limit their exercise time to an hour or less, even though there is no express instruction to do so, they are just demonstrating how easy it is to be controlled. It’s not about submitting to “control” it’s about putting your own interest to one side and working together as a nation to prevent mass suffering. Not deciding you are special because you need to run for two hours.

Nope, not at all. But please buy the OS app for £20 and be creative rather than congregating all in the same place (which is what happens in reality)

bluechameleon · 07/05/2020 11:21

I've just uploaded a video of me teaching a lesson and it has hit home how much I have put on. A lot more alcohol, biscuits and carbs during lockdown. I'm now motivated to take eating healthily seriously - let's see how well it goes over the next few weeks.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 07/05/2020 11:23

I have lost weight not gained it .
My eating habits haven't changed though is probably why .

Candyflosscookie · 07/05/2020 11:23

@ArgumentativeAardvaark Michael Gove's remarks on times were off the cuff in an interview when he was put on the spot to say what he would think "reasonable". They form absolutely no part of the UK guidelines or the law.

Well exactly. No one ever comes to the visit the countryside I live in, so I’m not sure why people are saying they’re not welcome? They’ve never tried. It’s a shame, as it’s lovely and the people are very welcoming.
The OS maps I mentioned above are available for anyone to purchase.

I lost over 5 stone last year. It puts me at a bmi of 29 so just below obese. I'm doing everything to stay where I am. My original plan was to maintain for six months and then lose until I hopefully for to a bmi of 25.

I'd love to start losing again now, but it's taking everything I have just to stay where I am, obesity is such a big risk factor with covid.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 07/05/2020 11:32

Government guidelines. “Even when you are doing these activities you should be minimising the time spent away from the home”.

SodaSloth · 07/05/2020 11:33

Why concern yourself with how people look, what the weigh, what they do. They are not you and you are not them. She's in the media because she's famous

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 07/05/2020 11:37

People do come here, as it's scenic and popular. The ones who park by a deserted road and go for a quiet wander on the less frequented moors are fine. No objections whatsoever.

The ones that rock up in larger numbers at the famous beauty spot, are surprised when the car park and toilets closed, and mill about in large groups on paths that aren't big enough to allow distancing, having lengthy BBQs (on bone dry ground which is dangerous regardless of covid) are the ones locals get hacked off with.

Needmoresleep · 07/05/2020 11:42

The papers have been full of locals, particularly in Wales, the Lake District and Cornwall complaining. Indeed criticism of a Scottish medical officer visiting a second home led to them leaving their job.

Given her username I assume Driving has a car. Lucky her. Where I live only 30%, perhaps fewer, of households own cars.

She acknowledges it is tough for, actually many many families. What I dont get is why she comes on an internet site to brag about it.

Yes. It is really tough. My neighbours have a small baby who cries almost all the time and has stopped putting on weight. No baby clinic, no six week check. No car either. They ended up having to take a taxi, with all the attendent infection risks, to the one specialist baby clinic that exists in south London.

MN is weird. Do people really not understand, or do they take real pleasure in bragging about breaking guideline for the essential trip of seeing piglets, just so they can rub it in the faces of those who might be struggling.

RedSoloCup · 07/05/2020 11:43

I did put in 2lb (normally go to the gym 2-3 times a week) so now started running, logging food on MyFitnessPal and trying to make sure I do 10-15k steps a day and I'm now 1lb under what I was.

Cooking healthier meals and have stopped the crisps and choc nightly. still drinking too much wine though.

SkyDragon · 07/05/2020 11:45

I thought Adele looked much prettier before...
