To think if you deliberately break rules and deliberately ignore shielding on this way you shouldn't expect the NHS to help

This is a rant and I'm sorry. But a friend of mine and her dh are both on shielding list. Boyh diabetic both obese. They have a 3yr old..
Because the boy is bored they've gone to parks that have been locked and climbed over gate. Same in a touristy area.. Locked car parks they've parked along side and climbed the fence.
Shop daily for a browse.. In asda etc at everything they sell.. Which is fine if there but they make a point of saying oh I go to that tesco or asda ( when theres 2 closer) so they can browse at different toys etc.

I tried to gently say I was concerned as they should sheild and she said we'll who the fuck do the government think they are telling me what to do.. I'm fit and healthy (she's not and I'm amazed they climbed the fence tbh) and why should I keep ds in the garden or indoors!

Their garden is a child's dream. I mean 2 trampolines, a combo swing set, built in pool, hot tub. Play room.( summer house) slides x 3. See saw, paddling pall ball pit you name it.. Literally everything.
I juts find it frustrating many kids would love that and never want to leave the garden.. I belive this is down to her wanting to be deliberately flouting the rules.

It angers me. When she said she was meant to sheild I offered to do her shopping etc.

6 times in 1 day she went to b&q because she couldn't decide what patio slabs she wanted!

The sad thing is if anything happened to her or her dh. They have no other family to have their ds.

Do your 'friends' normally post about their local playground outings on FBk? I mean, I know it's as exciting as most outings get nowadays, but it's not one I see a lot in normal times, never mind when it might be norty. How much more boring do their other FBk posts get?

I read that B&Q were banning people coming in with under 16s (luckily not the one I went to today, since DS was helping to choose paint colour).

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 07/05/2020 00:30

I think YABU but I understand your frustrations.
I always think refusing NHS services to people we disagree with the lifestyle choices of is a slippery slope. It might lead to the obese being refused heart medication, smokers being refused cancer treatments, people who participate is sports having broken bones treated etc.
However, I’m a bit of a curtain twitcher too and I’ll be honest, my curiosity is piqued while in lockdown. All you can do is the best that you can do. Ignore everyone else.

felineflutter · 07/05/2020 00:31

NHS treatment isn't based on whether the sick person's neighbours approve of them. Thank god.

Yes thankfully.

ACertainSupermarket · 07/05/2020 00:31

@posterOneandTwenty
That took a bit of digging, even on the BBC site! I wouldn't say 'lockdown is over' though. A couple of year groups potentially to return to schools in June, and some easing of restrictions about going out. But a review due tomorrow.

riotlady · 07/05/2020 00:32

The NHS is for everyone. It’s a long dark road if we start deciding who is and isn’t “deserving”

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 07/05/2020 00:34

I'm so fucking sick of these threads.

Shut up.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/05/2020 00:35

It's now been advised that anyone with a BMI over 40 should try to shield
By whom?

feelingverylazytoday · 07/05/2020 00:38

There are going to be some changes, but lockdown is unlikely to be completely 'over'.

Krazynights34 · 07/05/2020 00:43

I’m going in hard here - how the fuck did it come to thinking that people who do “stupid” things like drinking, get fat, have diabetes ( perhaps from overeating), smoking or not “shielding” when they were told to become grounds for not receiving NHS treatment?
Once upon a time - let’s say around about the time the NHS was created - people were malnourished from poverty, TB was rife, people smoked with no awareness of the issues, drank when they could, did all manner of things lots of judgement could and would be made on today.
And yet - it was for them, the common people with not enough money to swan off and take the latest water healing treatment the NHS was created. Not the I’m a prepping wholesome, locally sourced food, perfect mum with crafts coming out of their arse to entertain little Lord Fountleroy. It was for Ordinary, not well educated maybe, people with enough sense to sometimes not give a fuck about dying.

We don’t just live for our children you know.

If the fucking NHS staff don’t want to risk their lives they can quit.

If your “obese” neighbours want to jump the Eiffel Tower to impress their unaware son fucking who cares.

Why can’t the issue be with the government not banning travel, having enough PPE and do on instead of people jumping a fence or going (social distancing) shopping every fucking day.

I despair

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 07/05/2020 00:44

So was I tbh
They had shielding letters

Since when do you get told to shield if you're obese and have diabetes?
Confused
Although climbing over gates to get into the parks I definitely don't agree with (although I have the size of our local one in mind and she's obviously a lot fitter/agile than you give her credit for if that's the case Smile

I guess if things were being effectively enforced they would be repeatedly fined. That money would then contribute to their care. And hopefully dissuade them from continuing to spend quite so much time doing unnecessary things

RabidChinchilla · 07/05/2020 00:47

It's not much different from people who smoke/eat unhealthily for decades and then expect the NHS to pick up the pieces.

I don't understand why everyone keeps defending those who break the rules. These are the selfish fuckers who.have ensured the virus us kept alive and well, are risking infecting others and screwing up the NHS.
But yes let them do what they like and if they infect and kill your loved ones that's fine. They are adults so can do what they want.
No they won't be refused treatment because sadly they don't have moron stamped on their head. Even if they did they'd still get treatment, doesn't mean it's right.

Where is that on the actual website though, that's just a link to a pdf document?

Love2Queue · 07/05/2020 00:54

She hasn't said whether any other issues but they definitely had letters as she made a point of a status about it.

Yes she mentioned having the park to themselves as they climbed the fence in her words 'why wouldn't the rain of washed germs away'
I was surprised more so at her than him due to size but somehow did.

Yes she puts everything on fb.. Pics of da eating breakfast, lunch etc. She had 4 :
'lockdown' albums last I saw.. That's a lot.
Of photos.. Today there was an upload of 78pics in the pool its madness

But ive had my rant I just find it annoying she's so blasé about it All. Her post this afternoon was.. 'beach weather think a drive to the beach is in order the weekend.' least it will be quiet and easy to park. ( laughing face) nearest beach is around 60 miles away.

Who the fuck cares?! Grin
People posting pics of their dinner, or what they've baked in lockdown, may as well just send me to the gallows now lol.
I honestly don't understand people who follow others just to run off to other forums and be like "OMG, they're posting pictures of their DINNER, how lame are they?!
Just hide them if they annoy you that much! I love seeing what people are up to.

OK thanks, will take a look Smile
If overweight people can get it more easily and severely that'll make it much more tie in with the fact I think I've had it already

Zeusthemoose · 07/05/2020 01:31

'Diabetes would make you more likely to contract and be seriously affected by coronavirus as your immune system is compromised'
underneaththeash the only part of your statement thats correct is that a person with diabetes is at increased risk of a more serious reaction to the virus due to the effect it would have in blood glucose levels. The rest isn't true. Diabetes 1 or 2 is not itself on the shielding list.
