To think if you deliberately break rules and deliberately ignore shielding on this way you shouldn't expect the NHS to help

This is a rant and I'm sorry. But a friend of mine and her dh are both on shielding list. Boyh diabetic both obese. They have a 3yr old..
Because the boy is bored they've gone to parks that have been locked and climbed over gate. Same in a touristy area.. Locked car parks they've parked along side and climbed the fence.
Shop daily for a browse.. In asda etc at everything they sell.. Which is fine if there but they make a point of saying oh I go to that tesco or asda ( when theres 2 closer) so they can browse at different toys etc.

I tried to gently say I was concerned as they should sheild and she said we'll who the fuck do the government think they are telling me what to do.. I'm fit and healthy (she's not and I'm amazed they climbed the fence tbh) and why should I keep ds in the garden or indoors!

Their garden is a child's dream. I mean 2 trampolines, a combo swing set, built in pool, hot tub. Play room.( summer house) slides x 3. See saw, paddling pall ball pit you name it.. Literally everything.
I juts find it frustrating many kids would love that and never want to leave the garden.. I belive this is down to her wanting to be deliberately flouting the rules.

It angers me. When she said she was meant to sheild I offered to do her shopping etc.

6 times in 1 day she went to b&q because she couldn't decide what patio slabs she wanted!

The sad thing is if anything happened to her or her dh. They have no other family to have their ds.

Dementor ♟♟♟

Lougle · 06/05/2020 23:02

The NHS has never done a foolishness screen on patients. Many, many patients I looked after in ICU were there because they did something foolish. It is irrelevant. Everyone is entitled to the best care the NHS can provide at the time that they need it.

Olliephaunt4eyes · 06/05/2020 23:02

NHS treatment isn't based on whether the sick person's neighbours approve of them. Thank god.

Confuzzlediddled · 06/05/2020 23:04

Obesity and diabetes doesn't put someone on the sheilding list, even if it did its advisory, not law...

jakeyboy1 · 06/05/2020 23:05

Just amazed by the gate climbing!

Love2Queue · 06/05/2020 23:06

I did say it was a rant.
Deliberately climbing locked gates so your child can play on the roundabout etc. Just make me think wtf.
She's not a neighbour and this is all shown on fb

Wind your neck in OP.

Love2Queue · 06/05/2020 23:07

So was I tbh.
They had shielding letters.

The tourist area from my house is about 40 miles.. So from hers around 37 miles, so surely this takes the biscuit too.

If not ill consider myself told.

Are they lottery winners?

lljkk · 06/05/2020 23:14

How do they climb over gates?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/05/2020 23:14

Umm no the NHS is funded by public money, we fucking pay for the nhs. They treat everyone regardless, I mean what next not treating smokers of cancer? Not treating fat people of COVID? Come on where do we draw the line?

Shielding is not LAW, the uk has no law to say these people must stay home.

Khione · 06/05/2020 23:16

My neighbours (1 set) are obese, smoke like chimneys and have takeaways at least twice a week. They also socialise regularly, in the garden, with other neighbours at 2 metre distance

BUT

They clap and bang pans etc for the NHS every Thursday

'Genuine Question' Hmm

Should they get NHS help if they need it?

TitianaTitsling · 06/05/2020 23:16

Obese but spry if she can climb the locked gates! She should be put in a glass box so she cannot escape and the world can watch to see if she dies as a warning to others!! Or the stocks if they don't have a glass box, am sure op you would happily provide the rotten veg to throw at them- obviously from a dementors approved distance! 'who you gonna call? COVIDBUSTERS! ♟️♟️

Bam123 · 06/05/2020 23:18

I don't blame you for ranting, there are too many people like this that are not staying home it drives me nuts! These are the people that will make this worse and spread this virus more 😩 I have a 4 month old who is missing out on knowing her family and doesn't know who they even are anymore surely others can make a sacrifice if I'm having to do this. It's so selfish, even if they don't get affected badly themselves they could have symptom free coronavirus and be spreading it each time they go out and it amazes me how many are just ignoring the rules! People are having to die alone in hospital for god sake and my other half had to stream his own grandads funeral as there was a limited number who can attend, he couldn't even see his mum to give her a hug after her dad dying! It makes me so mad 😩

Lynda07 · 06/05/2020 23:19

Presumably even people who break the rules have paid or are still paying taxes towards the NHS. You surely wouldn't refuse a smoker or a drinker medical help, that would be inhumane.

In a case of a person catching Covid-19 and being taken to hospital, how would the staff know they had broken the rules? Everyone is allowed out for shopping or exercise, it could be caught that way. I think it would be a difficult situation to police, not that I'd want to.

One thing is certain, if a rule breaker did contract the virus but managed to recover, we can be sure they wouldn't break the rules again and would be evangelistic towards everyone else about safety!

Don't worry too much about what others do or don't, just make sure you are careful. Most of us are pretty good really.

BirdieFriendReturns · 06/05/2020 23:20

How exactly would the NHS know to refuse to treat people?

I think you should make a business case and send it to the Department of Health OP.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/05/2020 23:28

Yanbu but unfortunately cretins like this will still be treated if they get ill, risking the lives of nhs staff.

And the imbeciles on here calling you names are almost as bad.
This isn’t overdoing the exercise or a socially distanced visit to an elderly relative is it - it’s doing whatever you want regardless of the consequences.

But there is no point getting yourself stressed about it - this crisis has shown up the sheer stupidity and selfishness of people.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/05/2020 23:30

Pink- while shielding is not law- if they were caught doing to B and q for the 6th time that day they would be breaking the law as they would not be outside for any of the justified reasons would they?

BirdieFriendReturns · 06/05/2020 23:31

Seeing how prisoners (murderers, rapists etc) are treated on the NHS, the NHS isn’t going to deny treatment to people who break lockdown.

Quite rightly. Aren’t we lucky to live in such a society where healthcare is free at the point of use.

TitianaTitsling · 06/05/2020 23:34

How exactly would the NHS know to refuse to treat people? Ah birdie the dementors stamp you, dont they with the 'witty' covidiot stamp they wield!

PelicanDeuce · 06/05/2020 23:34

How can two obese people and a child climb over big fences and gates and stuff? Are they taking ladders out? Our a rudimentary pulley system?

isabellerossignol · 06/05/2020 23:36

She sounds like a right selfish pain in the arse all right, but that's an entirely separate issue as to whether she should qualify for NHS treatment. If the NHS applied a 'no treatment for dickheads' rule I'm sure every single one of us could be ruled out on some basis or other, because no matter how any of us live our lives, you can be sure that someone somewhere disapproves.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/05/2020 23:36

That wasn’t op problem though was it Smileyaxolott1 The problem was that a shielding person dared to go outside and should be refused Nhs treatment
