To think that Matt Hancock is not looking very well

Just that really. It must be so hard being the Health Secretary during this difficult time. I feel so sorry for him.

OP posts:
ginandbearit · 06/05/2020 23:02

He just reminds me of a stalled mid level office manager thrown into something way above his capabilities and is scared of being found out ...it's ok Matt...HR will sort out an exit package ...

chomalungma · 06/05/2020 23:03

And he utterly gamed the system to get to 120,000 tests

How many of them have been returned?

Because he set a target, he gamed the system to hit the target. So it became useless. The way a test was done was redefined.

Smoke and mirrors.

It's a good thing he has ramped up the testing. But it's got to be effective.

I do feel for him. But he is the one at the top. Except for Boris.

GreyGardens88 · 06/05/2020 23:07

I've always thought it weird how he never smiles

ToffeeYoghurt · 06/05/2020 23:08

salty78 I agree

Perhaps what I read was a load of rubbish. I've heard he, unlike many in the cabinet, wants a more cautious approach. One that would avoid additional avoidable deaths (and actually Boris too especially after his own brush with death).

It's others in government and some of their multi millionaire donors who are more responsible for the negligence. The super rich donors putting the pressure on, those who live on Covid (and tax) haven private islands or stricter locked down Monaco. They can afford to gamble with our lives and our economy.

Hancock is also getting all the blame for what was largely caused by those before him. The Blair and Brown government's crippling NHS PFI debt and Jeremy Hunt's many cock ups.

Woodentopper · 06/05/2020 23:09

After this crisis is over I hope they have an independent inquiry to look at the government handling of this. If it is shown that some NHS have died as a result of not having adequate PPE then Hancock should be brought before the courts on corporate manslaughter charges.

We had a prosecution trial of David Duckenfield the police chief on the day of the Hillsborough football disaster, I don't see how Hancock is any different.

Personally I'd like to see him in jail along with a few other government incompetents.

stophuggingme · 06/05/2020 23:10

Hancock is a pile of shite but he is being set up as the fall guy for this tracing, containment and management debacle.
Boris and his brush with death has meant he’s safe

tara66 · 06/05/2020 23:10

They say Boris chose a weak and generally inexperienced cabinet which he could dominate. Perhaps he would have chosen differently had he known about C.V.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 06/05/2020 23:13

Poor him. Perhaps he should moderate his tone.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/05/2020 23:13

I'd love to know how some of you lot would have coped had you been flung unexpectedly into a global catastrophe that nobody on the planet has ever had to deal with before; and be expected to know exactly what to do

Hopefully in the same way as Germany, Greece, Australia, NZ, South Korea, etc., rather than this lot.

tinytemper66 · 06/05/2020 23:14

He is a twat. That is how he looks.

stophuggingme · 06/05/2020 23:14

@tara66 I agree.
If Covid 19 hasn’t come along and spoiled the nasty Party’s party it might have taken a little longer for the masses to realise just how woefully inexperience, inept and devoid of backbone and judgement his team of henchmen are
As it stands, my money is on Barnum Johnson trying to continue the tosh he isn’t about austerity and gradually throwing them all under the bus. Hancock first

BoingBoingyBoing · 06/05/2020 23:17

He looks that way because he is a cunt.

greenlynx · 06/05/2020 23:18

@sindylouwho
Maybe it's all the lies he keeps telling
It definitely contributes!
Also Hancock was the one who chaired Cobra meeting in February as far as I understood so he feedback to PM:” It’s just a virus..Don’t you worry.” And now considering that Hancock was up and running after a week whereas Johnson had a very different experience, I’m not surprised that Hancock works much more and out and about nearly every day and on weekends.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/05/2020 23:18

He is a twat.

True, but I think others in the government are bigger twats. He's been promoted above his ability (like everyone else in the Cabinet) and is bound to be stressed. He also knows he'll be the fall guy. That said, I don't feel too sorry for him.

To be honest I don't think Hancock could empty a boot full of water if the instructions were written on the sole.

The rest of the Tories couldn't run a whelk stall.

stophuggingme · 06/05/2020 23:20

@fronttoback

I'd love to know how some of you lot would have coped had you been flung unexpectedly into a global catastrophe that nobody on the planet has ever had to deal with before; and be expected to know exactly what to do, have all the answers and to do everything right as if by magic.

My four year old daughter asked me why Boris Johnson was shaking people’s hands when nursery had told them it was a silly thing to do because of the nasty virus.
I agreed with her. But then she knows I’m not his biggest fan

It snowballed from the hand shaking bollocks really and based on the unending unfolding shit show I suspect she would have come up with a better strategy than the winging it chaps approach we’ve been forced to suffer thus far.
If our esteemed leader hadn’t been afflicted with it I dread to think how much more worse it could have been

DollyDoneMore · 06/05/2020 23:20

I’d have been useless.

That’s just one reason why I didn’t stand for election, form a government and seek to rule the fucking country.

These people haven’t stumbled into this by mistake, however much they look like they have. They have led us to believe they have the best ideas about running a 21st century nation state. Liars and charlatans, the lot of ‘em.

Hedgehog44 · 06/05/2020 23:23

I feel really sorry for all of them. They must be stressed to the max and exhausted. Just because they aren't Labour doesn't actually make them evil bastards. Jesus!

lljkk · 06/05/2020 23:23

He's buckling under stress. I probably would buckle, too, so cannot criticise.

Woodentopper · 06/05/2020 23:24

I felt sorry for the virus, how awful that it got infected by Boris Johnson.

Preparing for a pandemic is something our government should have been doing. We were overdue for one. It's their job to be prepared.

TomTomRunner · 06/05/2020 23:30

Partner works with one of the GP societies, he was a person to be derided by them and now probably one to be seen with incandescent rage. Bloody shambles.

Ps what happened to his eyebrows?

ACertainSupermarket · 06/05/2020 23:34

@Impiz His actual words were "I think she might do well to take a leaf out of the Shadow Secretary of State's book in terms of tone".
So certainly criticism of her 'tone' there, although you're technically correct he did not say "Watch your tone".
I'm not at all clear what was wrong with her tone. Anyone?
