To ask how much you are spending on food during lockdown

Not really an aibu but posting here for traffic.

How much are you spending on food during lockdown? Family of four here! Have an online shop coming tomorrow and I’ve spent £120. Could probably spend more if it wasn’t for the 80 item limit. Before lockdown was probably spending £80-90.

I spent around £80 on a large shop just over a week ago but found it wasn’t nearly enough food to last until this shop so had to top up!

I could try and get it down but we got to eat. The kids are eating everything, my partner needs to take food to work as well as meals, snacks, toiletries etc.

Please tell me I’m not the only one?

Also has anyone noticed Tesco prices going up recently? I’m a regular Tesco shopper. Only have a large Tesco or Morrison’s in the area and nearly always use Tesco!

Thinking of changing to shopping at Asda when this is all over!

5 adults here.
Spending about £220 per week.
And about £70 for a takeaway once a week.

PiggyPokkyFool · 06/05/2020 21:48

Spending so so so much - about £900 for four of us + cat since lockdown - big Ocado shops and a lot from the local butchers.
We are balancing that with the fact that we have saved about 4k since lockdown as food is all we spend money on outside our fixed costs.
Each one of us leaves the house once every 7 days so food is our friend!

okayokaywhatsnext · 06/05/2020 21:51

2 adults and 3 children. £200 a week plus a £20 takeaway.

We drink a lot though.

CloudyVanilla · 06/05/2020 21:52

Fucken loads. Nightmare.

ButtWormHole · 06/05/2020 21:52

We aren’t spending money on eating out (which we did 3-5 times a week easily), nor fun shopping. No car payments, mortgage holiday etc.

We are spending more on food. A combination of not being able to get to a supermarket, there being hardly any good offfers if we do get a delivery slot and having to use more expensive ways to get food, like a veg box delivery and the corner shop for milk

I really don’t mind though. Eating is the only thing I have to look forward to right now

Two adults, two older teens and a primary age here. Tesco shop coming tomorrow is £160, but I have to do another shop (M&S) and we have a takeaway once a week. At least 1k a month at the minute, normally £6/700

DysonFury · 06/05/2020 21:54

Me DD6 and DDog spend about £150 p/w currently, probably about our norm, but in one go with far fewer supermarket visits to top up on fruit and veg.

Violetparis · 06/05/2020 21:55

Two adults, one teenager, spending about £125 a week.

Cobourg · 06/05/2020 21:55

£250ish a week for six of us and a dog.

Lots of wine.

Skade · 06/05/2020 21:55

4 adults (3 large men). Used to spend about £120 a week, has now gone up to £200. All 3 have been at home all day while I work though!

KatnissMellark · 06/05/2020 21:56

Fucking loads!

But we're not commuting, buying lunch or going out so we're still saving money. Eating healthier too.

ScarfLadysBag · 06/05/2020 21:56

About £30,000 a month.

Things seem to be settling down though. We managed back to £80 for today's weekly shop, although that contained no meat as we get that from butcher. But last month we spent £500 on groceries when we usually spend about £350. Two adults and a toddlers. We've swapped to butcher and milkman, so that costs more but is actually much nicer. And we've been getting fruit from local farm.

LizzieSiddal · 06/05/2020 21:58

2 adults averaging about £150 a week in Waitrose. (including wine) Also we aren’t eating out, so actually saving money.

MelonsMcGee · 06/05/2020 21:58

We are the same. £50 to £150 easy plus a takeaway of about £25! I'm trying to rationalise it that I'm not buying lunches, coffees, eating out etc but it feels, psychologically, like a lot to go out in one go!

Ontheboardwalk · 06/05/2020 21:58

An absolute fortune.

I’m getting essentials for two vulnerable family members however the increase has been above what you’d expect

I’m paying at least £100 a week more but have stopped ordering non essentials from Ocado like bottled water, cat litter and other things I don’t 'need'

With the other stuff it would easily be another £50 a week taking it to £150 extra per week

LizzieSiddal · 06/05/2020 21:58

Scarf is that a typo😂

Arewehere · 06/05/2020 21:59

Too much.

Hushabusha · 06/05/2020 22:00

€350 a week . Three adults one child

Tolleshunt · 06/05/2020 22:01

About £200 per week, and there’s only three of us, one of whom’s four (though capable of eating her own body weight daily).

That doesn’t include any alcohol, but does include household items like laundry detergent. We do eat well, and DD is gluten and dairy free, so any special food is twice the cost of the regular variety (and tastes half as nice).

I’m not sure how we manage to spend so much tbh. It’s definitely gone up since lockdown - no free school lunch and snacks for DD, and not many offers on. Plus I’m buying more treaty food to make up for lack of any other pleasure.

Littlemissdaredevil · 06/05/2020 22:01

About £100 - £120 per week. With no alcohol. 2 adults and one toddler. I’m pregnant and can only get home delivery slots with Sainsburys rather than going to cheaper supermarkets. Before it was about £70 a week.

littlebillie · 06/05/2020 22:03

too much but also buying for other family members.

Oly4 · 06/05/2020 22:03

2 adults, 3 kids, £220-£250pw. Up from about £180pw before

ScarfLadysBag · 06/05/2020 22:04

@LizzieSiddal No that's actually what it feels like when I look at our bank account!

Bonkerz · 06/05/2020 22:04

My shopping habits have changed. I now spend £60 on a meat hamper a month , £25 on fruit and veg a week and roughly £40-60 on supermarket bits. I'm cooking fresh every night and we are eating lighter lunches. No take always either. Also doing amazon pantry per month about £60
Prior to this I was doing a weekly shop for about £80 and takeaways 3 nights a week!

lollipoplola · 06/05/2020 22:04

A lot. But we used to eat out breakfast, lunch and dinner every sat and sun and DH every lunch so overall we are saving money. Price of some foods have definitely increased plus no offers on some of the pricier essentials.
