I haven't and I won't. My boss had a rant about their neighbour on social media because they hadn't joined in the weekly clap. He's a wanker though, but the idea people are judging you for not taking part is bonkers.

I get people take comfort from it. Everyone I know in the NHS (admittedly only a few people) think it's virtue signalling at best and at worst, encouraged by government to make us forget they've shafted the NHS.

eeeyoresmiles · 06/05/2020 18:32

Yes, but all we do is clap, for about two minutes. If anyone starts getting saucepans out, I'll be straight out of there back indoors.

user1471453601 · 06/05/2020 18:33

We still do. It's partly to show some support for people who are still working and putting themselves at risk. But it's also to support my NDN. Since lockdown she's lives alone because her daughter is a hospital nurse and moved elsewhere to protect her Mum. Thursday evening is a chance for us to catch up with her, check how she's doing and if she needs any help

BirdieFriendReturns · 06/05/2020 18:33

I live in military married quarters, my mum said she presumed we would be all out clapping. Nope. Not a peep.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/05/2020 18:34

Nope. I did the first week but I thought it was pretty silly to keep it going. When is it going to stop??

eeeyoresmiles · 06/05/2020 18:34

If I didn't regularly hear of keyworkers who do like it, I would stop.

LST · 06/05/2020 18:35

No. I stopped when the fireworks started. It scares my dog too much. My DCs go out on the front though.

recycledteenager24 · 06/05/2020 18:37

drones filming and analysis on a friday online ? ffs what saddo does this ?

mrsbyers · 06/05/2020 18:38

Nope , I was unwell the first two weeks and after that I just didn’t feel the need to do it

Car alarms , car horns , pans and fireworks - it’s got absolutely ridiculous so I just focus on keeping the dog calm

Iwantacookie · 06/05/2020 18:40

No I completely forgot the first week and now it just seems pointless.
Obviously I am incredibly grateful for all key workers but for feel the clapping now just feels a bit pointless. However if others feel that they are doing their bit to support the nhs crack on.

roarfeckingroar · 06/05/2020 18:42

No

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/05/2020 18:43

Nope, I haven't clapped once. First time was a nice idea but now it's contrived and people feel they are being forced into it by the competitive clappers.

cardibach · 06/05/2020 18:44

Didn’t for the first couple. Thought I’d give it a go the third time and found it incredibly awkward. Then the pots and pans and air horns started. That’s not ‘Clap for Carers’. I’m a Corbyn fan but watching him walk up his street with a fucking bell is putting me right off. Clap if you want. It’s pointless, meaningless virtue signalling in my opinion, but crack on if you like it. But clap. Don’t compete for the biggest noise. Don’t wander about not observing social distancing.

TARSCOUT · 06/05/2020 18:44

No did it once but that was it. Pretty annoyed weekly pictures of local hospital having loads of people including nurses outside and bagpipes. Am pretty sure people are dying inside?

zen1 · 06/05/2020 18:45

No. I wrote on the weekly thread last week that it had almost turned into a cult thing on our street. One set of neighbours has taken to organising everyone else, posting notes through the door of what the weekly iteinery will consist of. It’s no longer just clapping, it’s musical instruments, horns, a designated upbeat song and this week they are incorporating flag-waving to coincide with VE Day.

MorganKitten · 06/05/2020 18:47

Yes I’m proud of all the key workers I know

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 06/05/2020 18:48

@Wherearemyminions
That is awful

There was a poster on a thread on here last week who said the neighbours chant door numbers and when the occupant goes out they get applauded .
Just awful . Truly.

transformandriseup · 06/05/2020 18:48

No I never did, mainly because it clashes with DDs bedtime but also I work for the NHS and I can appreciate them without clapping.

sniggy01 · 06/05/2020 18:48

NHS workers love the fact that the country shows their support and thanks in this way - please don't stop

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/05/2020 18:48

We did because 10 Yr old DD enjoyed it.

2 weeks ago, after clapping DD and I went for a stroll down the road at about 8:05 and a neighbour whose house is slightly round the corner from ours so you can't see the front door was yelling across the road at us "Come on clap, youre a disgrace! Put your hands together for the NHS! Come on you can do it" Dd was mortified and last week did a lazy half attempt on the sofa so I think that's clapping done for her. The irony of course is that I am a key worker myself and had been at work that day, voluntarily as it was Easter and been looking after some children whose parents worked at the nearby hospital.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 06/05/2020 18:48

No, I haven't done it yet, and I don't intent to start. I volunteered that's my contribution. This clapping on the door steps if fake, virtue signaling shite. I find it very "look at me". The worst is the people filming it and putting it all over fucking facebook like the newest resident in our street. "tonight's effort in the street" just filming her dd dancing in the road 🙄 fuck right off!

Seventyone72seventy3 · 06/05/2020 18:49

No. I'm in Italy and we only did it one week.

VerbenaGirl · 06/05/2020 18:52

We were in an online training session last Thursday evening and we all stopped half way through to clap. It went without saying. Most of our street clap and it feels good.

obviouslymarvellous · 06/05/2020 18:53

Nope I have given up as I'm sick of the hypocrites - the police lady who has visitors and the school teacher who has friends in her garden. They all stand clapping. Hypocrites! Most people who have respected the rules will have not seen friends family for several weeks, it's just wound me up the past few weeks and I've just got so fed up with lockdown.

xeniiia · 06/05/2020 18:53

It’s getting louder every week where I live!
