To wonder how she's not overweight?

Slim! DFriend eats

Breakfast - Smoothie then Diet coke

Lunch - 2 piece chicken and chips with a drink.

Snack - maybe a chocolate bar.

That's it. Sometimes she will eat a bag of crisps to herself in the evening. I'm so jealous and she knows it Grin I'm so baffled as to why she isn't overweight? She's a size 8/10 and looks great.

Drives everywhere so not really walking anything off. Will skip for 20 minutes 3 times a week but that's it. Again, I'm so envious Sad

OP posts:
Bienentrinkwasser · 06/05/2020 12:40

Also skipping for 20 mins, 3 times a week is quite decent!
On what planet is 60 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per week decent?

gingersausage · 06/05/2020 12:41

Because in spite of what we are made to believe, losing weight really is as simple as calories in versus calories out. Your body can’t differentiate between 200 calories of chocolate or 200 calories of fruit when it comes down to it.

Under-eating is under-eating, whether you get those 1000 calories from junk food or juicing or whichever fad diet is currently in favour.

I’m not sure why you’d be envious of someone damaging their health with disordered eating and getting so few nutrients.

spaghettios · 06/05/2020 12:41

...because she eats fuck all? Confused

BlingLoving · 06/05/2020 12:43

Well use, take out is calorific. So it's entirely likely that her lunch is more calories than most of us would have in one meal. But if her total daily calories are still under, which I think they clearly are, then that's why she's not overweight.

I have a friend who has always managed her diet this way. If she's planning dinner out she will have a green juice for lunch or a salad, no dressing, so that the impact of her dinner is less significant.

The point is that the 1800-2000 calories we're supposed to eat is over the whole day. If you have 1000 calories at lunch but only 250 the rest of the day, you're still under eating. And chicken and chips definitely isn't the worst takeout from a calories point of view.

TurnOffTheTv · 06/05/2020 12:43

Ok

Diet Coke 0 calories
Smoothie 200 cals
Two piece chicken meal 650 cals
Kinder bueno 240 cals

Even if you think the chicken is a high fat meal she’s still massively under eating

Witchofzog · 06/05/2020 12:43

She isn't eating an evening meal either so is fasting for much of the day possibly. But that isn't a healthy diet and smoothies are very high in sugar too so not as healthy as they sound

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/05/2020 12:43

OP, Nearlyalmost50's post is along the lines of what I think. Actually try to replicate your friend's diet for a week - and watch how she does it. Some people would eat every scrap of that food/drink or any food/drink they have. Somebody who is naturally slim (sadly, I'm not) would perhaps leave 'unappetising bits' on their plate or just stop before the food is finished. The difference is, they don't give it a second thought. They wanted it, they ate it, when they've had enough or it stopped being tasty, they stopped eating it.

This day's menu is under calories for most people but if you at as your friend does - and watched HOW she does it, and also what movement she does, you might uncover some 'secrets'.

veryvery · 06/05/2020 12:43

I wouldn't be envious, I'd get bored of that diet pretty quickly. I'd miss vegetables, salad and variety. I miss them a bit on one meal when I've not had what I feel is my usual portions of fresh, non processed, food. But as previous posters have said, she must be using the energy up from them.

PumpkinPie2016 · 06/05/2020 12:44

She isn't over weight because she isn't eating enough calories to be. She is probably eating around 1400-1500. That's not enough to gain weight, especially if she is relatively active.

Her diet is poor and may well cause other issues for her.

In all honesty, I'd be worried about her if she was my friend.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/05/2020 12:44

She drinks a WKD

What a vintage reference. Had no idea WKD was still a thing.

vanillandhoney · 06/05/2020 12:46

But she's not overeating, so why would she put on weight?

Bluntness100 · 06/05/2020 12:47

Very odd thread op. So she has no dinner, no breakfast, and eats only fried chicken and chips as a meal and either chocolate or crisps as a snack?

She eats a small amount and enough to maintain her size. Does she work in a burger place? Why does she eat chicken and chips every single day as her only meal?

fiddlysticks · 06/05/2020 12:48

She's thin as depending on the sizes of portions she's not eating very much at all. Maybe 1500 calories tops. Plus it looks like she doesn't eat much after lunch. I find if I stop eating around 5-6pm I lose weight quickly.

pipnchops · 06/05/2020 12:49

That's not a healthy or balanced diet but I can see how she's slim as it's not much in total. I'd rather have a better diet and not be as slim but at least be healthy. Don't know if YABU for being curious but it's really not something you should overly concern yourself over. Once this is all over invite her to your place for lunch and give her some fruit and veg!

DrManhattan · 06/05/2020 12:51

Drinking WKD with her lunch lol

HollySideEyes · 06/05/2020 12:52

Bienenttrinkwasser, I think it is, I find skipping quite hard, I suppose it depends on the pace, I'm thinking fast boxer-style?

Either way aerobic activity for 20 mins 3 times a week is as I said decent, not Olympic worthy or anything...are you an athlete? Grin

Pinkdelight3 · 06/05/2020 12:53

Well she only has one meal and the rest are drinks and a snack. It's not healthy but it's not a lot of food.

formerbabe · 06/05/2020 12:56

It's unhealthy but it's a tiny amount of food.

You can get fat if you eat lots of really healthy, home cooked food.
You can stay thin if you eat tiny amounts of crap

MarshaBradyo · 06/05/2020 12:56

How old are you both?

I found it easier to eat whatever I liked when I was younger. Not that kind of diet as your friend, more pasta etc but also chocolate every day, alcohol and crisps.

Friendsofmine · 06/05/2020 13:01

I assume she's about 20? I could have eaten a KFC and Cherry B for lunch and dinner and got away with it then!

Broadwayb · 06/05/2020 13:05

Because she vastly under-eats. That looks like disordered eating to me and I would be concerned for her.

ChrisPrattsFace · 06/05/2020 13:06

If I eat that I would lose weight.
I eat that about five times over 😂

Lockheart · 06/05/2020 13:07

If that's all she's eating, she's not overeating; she's undereating.

Her diet isn't healthy or nutritious, but she's not talking in an excess of calories.

If all you eat is chocolate but you only eat 800 calories of it a day you'll lose weight.

If you eat super healthily but eat 3,000 calories a day
(and you're not doing LOADS of exercise) you'lll gain weight.

formerbabe · 06/05/2020 13:07

I used to do one meal a day diet. Meal was anything I wanted...I lost weight

Janaih · 06/05/2020 13:08

Anyone that can skip for 20 mins must be pretty fit. (Ex boxing coach)
