To wonder how she's not overweight?

Slim! DFriend eats

Breakfast - Smoothie then Diet coke

Lunch - 2 piece chicken and chips with a drink.

Snack - maybe a chocolate bar.

That's it. Sometimes she will eat a bag of crisps to herself in the evening. I'm so jealous and she knows it Grin I'm so baffled as to why she isn't overweight? She's a size 8/10 and looks great.

Drives everywhere so not really walking anything off. Will skip for 20 minutes 3 times a week but that's it. Again, I'm so envious Sad

She eats whatever when out with us. Like a big plate of chick nuggets with chips and beans. Usually with a WKD and a cake desert to follow.

I just couldn't get away with that. My diet is healthier and balanced but I think I'd be heavier on her diet

How often does she eat out with you?

She might eat like that socially and not scoff much at home.

A lot of people are the opposite.

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 06/05/2020 12:27

If I ate that I would lose weight. I can eat 2000 cal a day and maintain my weight so the above food is under that and I would lose weight. Not very nutritious, but in terms of energy in vs energy out I'm not surprised she's slim

Dranktoomuchpepsi · 06/05/2020 12:28

Holly a few times a month. Usually on a Friday end of week

MiaowMix · 06/05/2020 12:28

Are you serious?
Her diet is nutritionally not great, but hardly calorific if she skips an evening meal and breakfast.
How can you not know this? Or is this a competitive under-eating thread?
There are only about 800 calories in an entire average chicken so that's hardly fattening.

MarylandMayhem · 06/05/2020 12:28

The food she eats may be unhealthy but that doesn't mean it's any higher in calories than what you eat.

PurpleDaisies · 06/05/2020 12:28
Hmm
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/05/2020 12:28

Why does anybody feel the need to pull stupid 'faces'?

I think it's quite common to see somebody eat a different diet to what you eat and ponder at slimness when there are things in it (chicken and chips, for example) that aren't generally on a 'diet'. Perhaps OP is just struggling to reconcile that and it's fair to question it.

The fact that OP's friend is eating to the extent that her weight is maintained, despite some quite high calorie meals (in isolation), shows that she's eating at her sweet-spot calorie level overall.

It's ok to ponder this, isn't it? Without being insulted? What's the point of that, coming onto a thread just to put somebody down? I haven't seen any 'wisdom' for the OP from the face-pullers either.

FreakStar · 06/05/2020 12:29

I honestly don't know what you are asking. The amount of food you have listed is not that much and probably less calories than she uses, especially as she only eats one main meal a day. Granted, what she actually eats isn't healthy but in terms of weight gain it's irrelevant as it's total calories that count.

ByzantinePrincess · 06/05/2020 12:29
  1. Shes massively underrating
  1. That’s a very unhealthy diet (yes you can live off it etc, but she’d feel much better and have more energy if she ate more vegetables, seeds and fruit!)
Sodamncold · 06/05/2020 12:30

I am underweight, fairly seriously

I eat way more than that

JemimaShore · 06/05/2020 12:30

Because she's only eating one meal a day?

ElectricTonight · 06/05/2020 12:32

Because she doesn't over eat.

megletthesecond · 06/05/2020 12:32
Confused She's eating shite, and very little of it.

You can be slim by eating a good diet full of nutrients, but that ain't it.

TrickyKid · 06/05/2020 12:32

I'm not surprised she's not overweight. I'd be passing out if that's all I ate all day. I'd be more concerned about her lack of nutrients than weight.

TinRoofRusty · 06/05/2020 12:34

Get a life! Some people are lucky. Some people don't eat much. Some people eat a lot. Meh.

HollySideEyes · 06/05/2020 12:34

It's not great food but fewer calories than an adult human female expends, so...science.

Dranktoomuchpepsi · 06/05/2020 12:34

Maybe my overall amazement at her being slim is because of the chicken and chips. I thought fried chicken was extremely calorific

Iwalkinmyclothing · 06/05/2020 12:34

DH eats like a horse and doesn't put on weight. If he doesn't get the equivalent of about 5 decently sized meals a day he starts to lose weight- I'm talking visible spine, sunken face, lower than healthy BMI. We're all different.

That said, your description of what your friend eats made me go, uh what? Why wouldn't she stay slim on that? it's not the most nutritious and healthy diet in the world but it's bot exactly highly calorific!

Nearlyalmost50 · 06/05/2020 12:35

KFC type chicken and chips is one of the least calorific take away meals, much better than a McDonalds. She may not eat the skin, eats some chips, it's really not a high calorie meal in the way that pizza is.

The rest is lowish calories, she's obviously eating enough to stabilise her weight.

You can lose weight eating doughnuts if you only eat one a day and little else. It's not healthy, good for you but that's not what weight loss is all about.

TimeWastingButFun · 06/05/2020 12:35

That's not a very healthy diet but then there isn't actually much food there, apart from lunch - no evening meal. If you're envious try her diet, it's obviously working!

HollySideEyes · 06/05/2020 12:36

Also skipping for 20 mins, 3 times a week is quite decent!

Bienentrinkwasser · 06/05/2020 12:36

Sounds like she’s ‘skinny fat’. She’s probably not eating enough calories to gain weight but the visceral fat around her organs will be higher than expected in someone of her size and she’ll have lower muscle density. She will probably have other health issues down the line.

mindutopia · 06/05/2020 12:37

It doesn't sound like she eats all that much, but it's not healthy, even if it may not be high in calories.

That said, I have a friend who literally ate nothing much fast food and full fat coke. She was allergic to a lot of fruit, didn't eat veg, and would eat McDonald's or Burger King at least 2, often 3 meals a day. And then she drank a lot of beer on the weekends. She ate like this for a good 10 years or so that I'd known her. She was like a model, 6 ft tall, probably a size 2, no eating disorder or anything. This was truly just how her metabolism was and how her picky eating manifested itself.

She's 40 now (this was mid-late 20s). Still slim and looks 25. She has had breast cancer though, which I assume was partly genetic, but can't imagine her diet didn't contribute in some way.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 06/05/2020 12:38

Because her food intake and her body's energy requirements are in equilibrium.
