AIBU: If They Make Children Wear Masks, I'm Homeschooling

Social distancing at our schools is not possible.
I would love to get back to work in the fall as a public school teacher. However, we are being asked/encouraged (over the age of 3) to wear masks in public places.
My DD (11) panics when she has to wear a mask for more than 20 minutes. I get it. I get a headache after 30 minutes.
I understand this is projecting, but just keeps going through my mind...
Ugh.

I think that everyone including children should be wearing masks.
if you w ant people back working back at school without constsnt lockdowns.
If you want some nhs staff left.
for children with hearing issues. Maybe the smaller classes need ed anyway might help.
And a lot of kids have glue ear due to lots of uri so actually they may be massively benefitted by a year of less infections. Especially as it tends to reduce in the summer so is generally due to illness.
Kids are asymptomatic. With less than half infected having the fever.
I dont see why teachers who are vulnerable -6% chance of dying maybe should just suck it up.
The virus is mainly spread directly not hand and surface. Otherwise contact tracing wouldnt help.
For phonics there are you tube videos or teacher could prerecord.
i hear people walking past coughing every single day.

19k 40-60 yo are likely to die (even with lockdowns) before we hit herd immunity. Maybe still low risk at individual level but stillquite a few working age and many parents.
Imagine this was asbestos and the school /parents were saying- you cant wear a mask (yes i know it saves your life but i think it might scare my dc). Oh and dont bothervwith special clothes and go hug that asbestos. I know some workers dont takr asbestos seriously but that mainly just affects them and probably 30y in the future.

That is such a creative solution and very glad to hear! We are opening up (baby steps).

My daughter's dance teacher is holding their classes outside, well spaced apart, with masks on. (In our state, we are currently required to wear one in places where physical distancing is impossible). They all are pretty uncomfortable by the end of class.

They put Mickey Mouse ears on gas masks in the war to make them less scary for children.

I’m sure some enterprising person willl fo the same for children’s face masks

Optimistic
I'm pinching that! 😂👍🏻👍🏻

KoalasandRabbit · 06/05/2020 21:07

Disney have already produced some Mickey Mouse ones. Not one to miss a sales opportunity.

You might want to learn about the proper use of capitals before you start homeschooling Wink

SallyLovesCheese · 06/05/2020 21:17

Emoji This is a 'Mickey Mouse' had mask from WW2. Still scary for a young child, imo.

*gas mask

Kokeshi123 · 07/05/2020 01:34

They’re only effective for 30 minutes, after that they become porous.

We are not talking about medical grade masks being worn in medical conditions!
