Which celebs have made arses of themselves in their quest to entertain /crave attention

Doingtheboxerbeat · 05/05/2020 23:34

I know that their living depends on staying relevant but these are challenging times for such self indulgence when people have more pressing issues. But some celebs who are normally not massively annoying, are making reputation destroying SM entries.
So far, The usually wonderful Ellen has peed off a lot of people, Michael Buble, Ollie Muirs(???), Madonna and loads more.
Any others making your cringe gland rupture?

I know I am part of the problem and this is not important but I am bored.

You do all know that you can unfollow these people right? I don't even know half the people you've mentioned!

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 09:25

You don’t have to follow them on SM to be annoyed by them.

Frankola · 09/05/2020 09:39

Sam Smith crying over being isolated in their mega million dollar mansion

Kate Beckinsale posting videos about her cat but actually it's about her in her pants

Christine McGuiness acting like she is suddenly famous in her own right?

Victoria Beckham posting cringe family isolation videos in her gigantic palace whilst furloughing staff and expecting the tax payer to fork out for it

KitchenDancefloor · 09/05/2020 10:08

@Mrsjayy yes Daisy May Cooper is one of the writers/main characters from This Country. Even before I'd seen an episode I thought she was great when she turned up to an awards ceremony in bin liners. She definitely doesn't take the whole fame thing too seriously.

KitchenDancefloor · 09/05/2020 10:11

"The reason I’m wearing this,” Cooper explained, “is that, if I wore a normal dress, that would have cost a lot of money and I thought I’d donate that money to a local food bank and wear bin bags instead.”

ssd · 09/05/2020 10:21

Amanda Holden on telly last night with her breathless singing, ironed face and gushy rainbow baby talk.
Christine McGuiness with her false boobs out and me me me talk.

You couldn't sell these women a brass neck.

ssd · 09/05/2020 10:22

And the worst bit is if they ever read this thread they will both think everyone is just jealous of them...

custardbear · 09/05/2020 10:36

Amanda Holden jumping into the bandwagon of releasing a single for charity 🙄

Michael Ball clambering over Captain Tom 🙄

VB - disgusting 'business' behaviour 🙄

Meghan and Harry - don't publish anything unless I tell you it's ok to so I can mould a career off the Royal family - please, just FO 🙄

Katherine Jenkins - vile creature 👿

ssd · 09/05/2020 10:40

Yes, Michael Ball must have been thinking 'YAASS' when he heard about captain Tom.

Deadringer · 09/05/2020 11:30

Yes the word poser should be brought back, although some would see it as a badge of honour.

Binterested · 09/05/2020 11:39

Yy to poser. I’m the 80s it was very uncool to have designer brands. Height of naffness. Would quite like that mentality back.

One person we haven’t really heard from who is usually all over any opportunity to pontificate is Emma Thompson. I actually do hope her family is ok and I like her acting. But her virtue signalling is enraging and frequently wrong (cheerleading for the poor, misunderstood but terribly, terribly artistic Roman Polanski for instance)

HavartitoMeetYou · 09/05/2020 12:21

Archie didn’t have a wet nappy ffs. Hmm

Emma Thompson has been getting involved in a few different charity things but quite privately, without making a big song and dance about it. I’m a member of an activism group and she does a lot privately to help us.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are redefining thirsty!

SunshineCake · 09/05/2020 14:01

I've heard about Emma Thompson. Having slagged off the UK and fucking off to Italy she went back to Scotland after four days when Italy went into lockdown HmmHmm.

shadypines · 09/05/2020 15:07

Imagine attention being part of your survival - if your not a new born

^ One of the best comments I've ever read on this whole topic.

Amanda Holden....sweet jeez, the woman probably has mirrors stuck to the inside of her eyelids..

HavartitoMeetYou · 09/05/2020 15:29

Yeah, I agree. And some of these people are (ostensibly) actors! The best and most well-regarded actors are those who focus on their roles and acting ability, and don’t engage in self-promotion. Plenty of famous actors don’t have social media and never give interviews, or perhaps only a few interviews talking only about their latest project when they have to. It’s just people who know they don’t have the talent for that who try to become “personalities.”

Sceptre86 · 09/05/2020 16:04

Christine Mcguiness and husband are beyond annoying. Apparently their kids have suffered setbacks with their autism since being in lockdown yet both of them seem to have way too much time on their hands posting pictures with very few clothes.

Nice to see that jessie from little mix is happy with her figure now but her pics of her constantly pouting always seem a little desperate as if she is seeking validation (which she totally doesn't need).

I have never liked Olly Murs music but he came across as a happy chappy, the more I see of him on social media the more I dislike him.

Amanda Holden and all of the love island lot just posture and preen in very few clothes with the add thanks NHS post accompanied by a bikini shot. Not sure how this really helps? Seems so shallow but then Instagram is littered with similar posts.

Iamthewombat · 09/05/2020 17:24

What I particularly dislike is the way these people appoint themselves spokespersons for something or other. Because they ‘have a platform’ (ie they are constantly forcing themselves into the public gaze). Can they not see that they are like pound shop Bonos? He repeatedly made an arse of himself during the nineties, giving politicians unsolicited advice.

Do parents of autistic children really want the dopey, narcissistic McGuinnesses appointing themselves representatives of families of autistic children so that they can go on daytime TV shows, giving their half-baked opinions on treatment etc.? I doubt it. Especially because the McGuinnesses are clearly using the cause to further their own careers.

Ditto that idiot Jesy Nelson. I wouldn’t encourage any young person to take advice from somebody who has mutilated her face to look like some awful sex doll, then posts provocative pictures of herself and expects to be congratulated for it because of her supposed body dysmorphia. Chronic attention seeking more like. Presenting herself as a heroic example for young people to follow is just noxious.

JemimaTab · 09/05/2020 18:24

I agree with those who have said Jack Monroe. To me, she has really exposed herself as an argumentative, aggressive, not very pleasant (and possibly not very truthful) person, and she’s done this entirely herself via social media - albeit that she is always on deletion sprees to get rid of her worst Tweets. And the business with Jamie Oliver, followed by her woefully inept appearance on Daily Kitchen, was extremely unprofessional.

Tappering · 09/05/2020 18:42

@JemimaTab agree. It's a shame because she could be such an informative source of help, but it's undermined by the chipping away at other people. I wondered if she backtracked and deleted the fuss she made on Twitter about not being offered JO's gig, once she'd been on DK and realised that presenting is quite hard work and that not everyone is good at it. Plus not being able to answer some fairly fundamental questions about food - e.g. why the % of fat in mince varies - made her look quite unprepared and amateurish.

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 18:55

Emma Thompson actually thinks shes living in one of her frigging Edwardian adaptions

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 18:57

And shes only half as much of a PITA as Helena Bonham 'ginny aunt' Carter

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 09/05/2020 18:58

Amanda Holden and Myleen Klass. On the other hand Sara Cox has been amazing and kept me going through lock down at 5 on Radio 2 so up beat and played some cracking tunes .

HavartitoMeetYou · 09/05/2020 19:13

Jack claims to be “too timid” to even film herself in her one kitchen for YouTube or similar, yet she expects a production company to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds on her being able to deliver a good performance in front of a professional camera crew, consistently over the course of many weeks?
