Which celebs have made arses of themselves in their quest to entertain /crave attention

Doingtheboxerbeat · 05/05/2020 23:34

I know that their living depends on staying relevant but these are challenging times for such self indulgence when people have more pressing issues. But some celebs who are normally not massively annoying, are making reputation destroying SM entries.
So far, The usually wonderful Ellen has peed off a lot of people, Michael Buble, Ollie Muirs(???), Madonna and loads more.
Any others making your cringe gland rupture?

I know I am part of the problem and this is not important but I am bored.

Claire from Steps is a truly horrible person. Arrogant, rude, selfish. She will trample over anyone to get what she wants. Don't forget she cheated on her first husband with a guy whose fiancée was six months pregnant and thought it was an amusing anecdote. He's now her husband, but still.

But yes she does have a lovely voice and can certainly turn on the charm when she needs to.

@MaybeDoctor
"I am on a one-woman campaign to bring back the nineties term 'poser' and 'posing' - which used to be seen as very bad form - as being very applicable to the social media age."

This is a great campaign, I have been thinking about it a lot since I read this post and you are so right. I'm going to start using that word from now on, its perfect. Thank you so much.

BlueBooby · 07/05/2020 20:26

You're right, it was seen as bad form. I've spent the last hour looking at some of the celebrities mentioned here on Instagram and was really shocked by the blatant showing off and attention seeking, but I guess it's normal to be like that now. So weird.

HavartitoMeetYou · 07/05/2020 21:00

I just google Jack Monroe Jamie Oliver.

What an entitled little madam!! She lost out on one single job (which she probably would not have been able to do for practical reasons anyway), and decided to rant about how her entire - very successful - career was obviously over because of it?? Oliver’s show isn’t store cupboard/cooking with tins anyway, and has little connection to the kind of stuff she does. Not that she or anyone has the patent on any one kind of cooking.

MaybeDoctor · 07/05/2020 21:18

Delighted to add some Mumsnetters to my campaign! Please spread the word.

I think it may have even been spelled ‘poseur’ at times in the nineties, for particularly offensive cases...Grin

Gindrinker43 · 07/05/2020 21:29

Megan Markle for the bed time story reading with baby Archie. Lots of long looks at the camera, probably trying to seal a paid job on Jackanory.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2020 21:55

I have no real opinion on Harry and Meghan but my eyes nearly rolled out my head when I read the autobigraphy is to be titled "Finding freedom"

Proudboomer · 07/05/2020 23:18

Adding Oprah to my list for her telling the world she is donating $10 million to various different funds for Covid relief.
Great $10 million is a lot of money but she has a net worth of a conservative estimate of $2.6 billon but more likely $4 billon and earns $10 dollars a second each and every day wake or asleep.

It is like me finding some lose change down the back of my sofa and popping it into the collection box at my local Tesco whilst calling the press to film it.

KitchenDancefloor · 08/05/2020 00:53

@MaybeDoctor yes it was definitely 'poseur' in smash hits!

Another vote for Daisy May Cooper being wonderful. Doing deadpan tik tok dances in holey pjs and no bra - she is the woman we all are when no one is watching.

Rob Beckett has been hilarious on Instagram at the start of lockdown, day after day of extreme close ups of him insisting that he is completely and utterly not having a breakdown. And accidentally ordering 5kg of mild cheese. He also never shows his children on screen 🤜🏻

Jack Monroe was unfollowed by me when she/they launched a fundraiser for herself a couple of days into lockdown, then got a presenting job on the bbc. It was totally tone deaf to the people who are properly unemployed and without a social media following to tide them over or a chance of a media job being dropped in their laps. I wasn't even aware of the Jamie spat.

I always get disappointed when articulate, witty women turn out to be vapid and attention-seeking on social media. Herself who is married to Marcus Brigstock and is on the Mash report (can't think of her name and I've unfollowed her) is all 'this is what I'm wearing today' aka a poseur.

May I recommend following Good News Movement on instagram? Loads of lovely stuff on there and not a celebrity in sight.

Q

Mrsjayy · 08/05/2020 08:53

Is Daisy May cooper in This country?

Mrsjayy · 08/05/2020 08:54

I am dissapointed that Claire from Steps isn't all she is cracked up to beSad

Dowser · 08/05/2020 11:48

I can’t bear that god awful Megan Markle video of her reading to that poor child . Such a dreadful book way above his age range.

PhilSwagielka · 08/05/2020 12:10

What the hell was she reading to him?

Walkingtohealth · 08/05/2020 12:15

Another vote for Jack Monroe from me for her stupid twitter rant about JO.

Then she was offered a guest slot on Daily Kitchen which proved what an awful presenter she is.

The permanent victimhood is grating too.

HavartitoMeetYou · 08/05/2020 12:49

Yes, Monroe is a hypocrite and a bully. She went vegan for about three minutes so she could cash in and release a vegan cookery book, apparently not “stealing the life work” of cooks who dedicate their entire careers to vegan cooking!

Meghan read “Duck Rabbit” a Read Aloud book for toddlers. I ignore the MM posts, it’s the same nutters who try to shoehorn their weird obsession with her into every thread.

thenightsky · 08/05/2020 12:59

@Mrsjayy What's that about Claire from Steps??

Iamthewombat · 08/05/2020 13:46

It is eleven posts above MrsJayy’s post.

PhilSwagielka · 08/05/2020 13:46

@HavartitoMeetYou haha, I thought she was reading Ulysses or something. Bloody hell. The woman barely registers on my radar.

This will come across the wrong way but I barely know who most of the people in this thread are. I'm not saying it to be superior, I genuinely don't know who most of them are - actresses, TV presenters etc. I don't really watch TV and I only follow footballers on Instagram, most of whom are pining for the pitch, though Dominic Calvert-Lewin cracks me up.

Iamthewombat · 08/05/2020 13:47

I saw that book MM was reading, I thought it might be for the contrast of the pictures more than anything, very black and white, grabs the attention of babies.

I read similar to mine who are still voracious readers in their teens.

paintedsmile77 · 09/05/2020 08:26

The one with Archie in a wet nappy and vest.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 09:04

Re VB and the furloughing thing, Martin Lewis said she was doing the right thing.
