Children of essential workers in school

need an AIBU reality check

My DH is an essential worker and when the lockdown started we were offered a place at DS2's primary school. We declined as I was at home and didn't need or want to send my 10 yo boy to school unless absolutely necessary. I have been WFH for the whole time.

I have a friend in the exact same position and had something of an argument with her as she decided to send her 10 yo son (and secondary daughters) to school as she found WFH difficult with her children there.

She is still sending her children to school and I find it almost irresponsible. She is putting her children and the teachers at risk because she wants some peace and quiet.

However please tell me if I am way off the mark with this? Maybe I am being over cautious

I think you should keep your nose out of other people's business when it doesn't concern you.

I'm afraid that my view still is that the person in question is being entirely selfish and putting her DC and the teachers at risk.

Why bother posting in AIBU then other than to start a bunfight?

I'm interested to see comments on how our school aren't following the guidance.

The lockdown rules state keyworkers can go out to work, others can work if WFH

The rules also state children could only be sent in if no one is at home to look after them (one of us completing our keyworker role is always at home) so the school is surely correct to expect our children to be cared for at home as one parent there at all times (even though we're both keyworkers)?

It depends on the job and the task. One parent is checking blood calibration levels across the country via zoom or similar. He can 't be distracted.

We also have children who are not key workers but safer in school.
Every situation is different with different back stories.
