Anyone think travel in June is likely?

I personally do not. But I'm interested in other peoples opinions.

We are booked to fly on June 22nd to Majorca. Tui have cancelled flights up to the 11th June, but say holidays after this date are likely to go ahead. (Which is what they've said after every date change).

I'm hoping our flights are cancelled, so we can reshedual for June next year, as I don't want to go this year now regardless.

Yabu - No one is travelling anytime soon
Yanbu - Yes, it's a possibility

@Phil

I think they can cancel at the very last minute. Thereby trying to force people to cancel themselves first so they don’t have to pay out.

BillieEilish · 06/05/2020 11:15

@Rose

Yes, this is my understanding.

In the news, online etc people are saying 'Well they better let us in, they rely on us for our tourist money' 'We keep their economy going' type of thing!

The fact is, we are all in a terrible, dire situation. It would be great to have tourists back, but the truth of the matter is that I believe the first to be allowed back won't be the UK. More likely France (huge numbers of French tourists here) and Germany (also huge numbers of tourists) as they had a proper lockdown. The UK hasn't.

Also the UK tourists' behaviour at the time of lockdown, in Benidorm, was unmentionable and did not go unnoticed.

I just had an email from BA saying our flights to Turkey are cancelled (out 28th June for a fortnight).

I take your point but this type of behaviour is probably not typical of the kind of people who visit the less touristy parts of Spain. But unfortunately we will all get tarred with the same brush.

Greydove28 · 06/05/2020 11:53

What about end of October? Im going USA.

PhilSwagielka · 06/05/2020 11:54

@BillieEilish I saw footage of that. It's so embarrassing. When I go to Barcelona, I behave myself.

BillieEilish · 06/05/2020 12:24

@chocolatesaltyballs22 exactly!!! I am English and I have encountered almost a racist attitude towards me recently. It has made me very angry.

I am automatically an alcoholic from Benidorm, drives me mad. I have actually come from London via Montreal and Madrid to the coast.

It reflects so badly on the perception people have of me. Even at the school gates, believe me! (When there used to be a school gate!)

RosesandIris · 06/05/2020 12:43

I’m often completely horrified by the way fellow Brits behave abroad. Rude, entitled, vulgar . I’m ashamed to be British a lot of the time. Of course Benidorm has a particular reputation, like parts of Ibiza and Corfu, but I have noticed it in many other places too, which are less ‘lager lout’ in their reputation.

BillieEilish · 06/05/2020 12:55

Thing is, @Roses (loving your RF thread BTW), Benidorm is actually beautiful! I was amazed when I took DD last year.

Apart from the tourist strip, that is. The rest is so untacky.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 06/05/2020 13:23

@BillieEilish I sympathise, it must be difficult to be a Brit living in Spain based on the behaviour of some British people. We plan to retire there if we can. We visit the same small Spanish town every summer where the staff in bars and restaurants don't speak a lot of English. We've made an effort to learn some basic Spanish so that we can talk to them. But the number of Brits I see yelling rude instructions in English, making no effort whatsoever to speak the language, makes me cringe. I posted on here about it last summer while I was there and got called racist for it!

RosesandIris · 06/05/2020 16:46

Unfortunately it’s behind a paywall

Have you checked the app you might be able to rebook regardless. Tui were offering this to us before they cancelled however it might be worth hanging on as now they are offering a 20% incentive to rebook

RosesandIris · 11/05/2020 11:49

I am still no clearer in what Ryanair are doing in June. Or whether it is only rebooking being offered or a refund of the flight is cancelled.

@Justmuddlingalong

We're booked for Mexico for the middle of July. DP mentioned about making a Dr's appointment for his holiday injections today. I've told him we have as much chance of going anywhere, as he has of getting his lockdown backside into his swimming trunks
Has your holiday to Mexico been cancelled?
