Anyone think travel in June is likely?

I personally do not. But I'm interested in other peoples opinions.

We are booked to fly on June 22nd to Majorca. Tui have cancelled flights up to the 11th June, but say holidays after this date are likely to go ahead. (Which is what they've said after every date change).

I'm hoping our flights are cancelled, so we can reshedual for June next year, as I don't want to go this year now regardless.

Yabu - No one is travelling anytime soon
Yanbu - Yes, it's a possibility

We were due to fly to Gibraltar with BA 2 weeks ago, I kept waiting for them to cancel the flight, they didn't. The flight went.

I took vouchers the day before as I didn't know if I could get a refund if the flight actually went, which it obviously did.

We were due to stay with friends in Spain but the boarder was closed, and all the hotels were closed due to their lockdown, so if we'd have gone, not only would we have risked our health being on a plane (aircon), we'd have been homeless there with a 2 year old!

Thanks BA....

yearinyearout · 04/05/2020 15:46

Not a hope.

caffeinebuzz · 04/05/2020 15:46

Our Majorca flights for the last week in June got cancelled today (BA)

SimpleKindofLife · 04/05/2020 16:02

Nope! And I doubt any country would want us coming either!

BillieEilish · 04/05/2020 18:34

Why on earth would you want to fly on honey moon next month?

Skyla2005 · 04/05/2020 18:45

Highly unlikely I think No one will be going on holiday this year abroad and probably in uk too I wouldn’t pay the balance if I were you

Paddingtonthebear · 04/05/2020 18:53

On another thread someone has said that in France they have told citizens not to expect to travel outside of France for the rest of this year. Another person said that they received an email from a spanish hotel today offering a full refund for their August booking. The Balearic Island Government have said they may allow moderate domestic tourism from August and after that allow tourists from other countries, but implied UK may not be on the list as they think we went in to lockdown too late.

Polydolly7 · 04/05/2020 18:59

Thought Tui we’re allowing changes for free and had extended their date to 11 July travel

Chillipeanuts · 04/05/2020 20:32

Martin Lewis was stressing today, as did Simon Calder at the weekend: do not cancel your holidays. Wait u TIL the company cancels.

If you do so first, even if the restrictions then continue beyond that date, you will not be refunded and your insurance is unlikely to pay.

Midsommar · 05/05/2020 07:20

@BillieEilish because we've been saving up and looking forward to it for months!

Are we not allowed to look forward to our holidays? Hmm

Littlegoth · 05/05/2020 07:56

I’m not sure we’ll be able to visit family members by then, let alone fly abroad x

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 05/05/2020 08:00

I really hope travelling between Ireland and the UK will be allowed as I haven't seen my dp in nearly 4 months

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 05/05/2020 08:33

I really can't see it. We're in the process of cancelling our holiday to France in August because we're not confident enough, I can't imagine anywhere will be properly open as soon as June.

Midsommar · 05/05/2020 09:11

@Littlegoth sadly I think you may be right. I keep telling myself things will go back to normal soon, think it's my way of coping really.

Littlegoth · 05/05/2020 09:20

@midsommar I keep telling myself ‘one more week’! X

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme · 05/05/2020 09:57

Paddingtonthebear do you have a link to the announcement re. tourism in Balearics please?

Clavinova · 05/05/2020 10:17

A friend had her BA flights (end of June) cancelled 30 minutes ago.

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/05/2020 10:26

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls

We were meant to fly to Rhodes with Jet2 yesterday (boo!).

We got an email from Jet2 a few weeks ago telling us the trip was cancelled and also what our options were (re-book, vouchers, full refund) and that they would call us and to sit tight and wait.

They did call us and agreed to the full refund I asked for without a quibble. It was in on my credit card statement within a few days.

As others have said, wait for the company to cancel and then stick to your guns if you want a refund rather than re-book, etc.

Honeyroar · 05/05/2020 10:32

BA is sacking a quarter of their workforce because they’re not expecting flights to operate normally for a long time.

Interestingly KLM is starting some short haul flights to other European cities this week. London is not one of them! There were pics of an Irish airline’s flights and the total disregard for distancing. I wouldn’t want to be on them.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/05/2020 10:42

No, I can’t see uk holidays opening up in June let alone abroad.

Holidays are not essential, risking the lives of others and the holiday staff, airport staff etc to go and have a break isn’t something I could do. With no eating out, trips etc it’s not going to be a traditional break anyway.

Not great for the economy as tourism drops but things will hopefully adapt and at some point travel will be able to resume.

Paddingtonthebear · 05/05/2020 14:14

Iknewyouwerewaitingforme

It has been reported in various media / news outlets

“Tourism minister Iago Negueruela said tourism activity could start ‘minimally’ in August, but with only 25% of the usual visitor numbers. He said this figure could gradually increase to 50% over the following months. However, he hinted that certain countries, including the UK, which took longer to take measures to restrict the spread of the coronavirus, will face a Balearics ban for longer.

“There are countries like the United Kingdom that have taken too long to adopt containment measures and that also puts us in a different situation with respect to them,” he told local media.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 05/05/2020 14:45

The earliest anyone within Spain is going to be able to travel freely within the country is the back end of June, under the phased deescalation, so I’d say it’s virtually impossible OP.

AllesAusLiebe · 05/05/2020 15:14

I can't remember where I read this but I heard that the Spanish may consider opening the resorts from late summer, so they still get some of the benefits of holiday season income.

The other key point to keep in mind is when UK citizens specifically will be able to travel. It may depend upon how well, or otherwise, your country of residence is itself coping.

Fluffybutter · 05/05/2020 17:06

I hope all these countries saying they won’t let people in form the U.K. are going to extend it to the other ones who acted the same .
The U.K. weren’t the only ones

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/05/2020 17:20

We are having an interesting conversation with our rental agents in Spain at the minute who still seem to be hopeful that we can travel there in July. We've rented a private apartment and paid a big deposit (€820) but the owners of the apartment are refusing to refund if we can't go, stating that the booking t&c's say they don't have to refund. I think this is a bit underhand if I'm honest, and not very reasonable. Not happy. But that's the risk you take when you don't book a package.
