Anyone think travel in June is likely?

Emcont · 04/05/2020 09:36

I personally do not. But I'm interested in other peoples opinions.

We are booked to fly on June 22nd to Majorca. Tui have cancelled flights up to the 11th June, but say holidays after this date are likely to go ahead. (Which is what they've said after every date change).

I'm hoping our flights are cancelled, so we can reshedual for June next year, as I don't want to go this year now regardless.

Yabu - No one is travelling anytime soon
Yanbu - Yes, it's a possibility

@Fluffybutter i agree with you there. Singling out UK holidaymakers is unfair when many other European nations have acted similarly in response to the virus. Somewhat predictable, though.

Brimborium · 05/05/2020 18:19

I'd be interested to know whether they will distinguish between holidays and non essential, but "more necessary" travel. Similar to an earlier poster, I haven't seen my partner since February, and would love to have an idea of when I could fly to see him again. It's getting very hard, even though we are used to long distance. But I can't see how rules could allow for a distinction between this and a holiday...tough.

Honeyroar · 05/05/2020 18:52

@Fluffybutter and @AllesAusLiebe the poster who mentioned the U.K. being not allowed did say that it was amongst other nations that had acted the same. It’s hardly singling us out, we’ve had one of the highest death rates. We should have been looking at who was coming into the U.K. ourselves, and we didn’t (I can vouch for that as cabin crew. We had the most lax checks I’ve encountered anywhere in the world).

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 18:54

@Brimborium I haven't seen my husband for 7 weeks and he is stuck in a flat 5 minutes away.

@There will definitely be no holidays in July. Spanish residents may be allowed to travel within the country by then IF there is no spike and people behave. As many Spanish people/those residing in Spain keep explaining.

We still have a much stricter lockdown than England, after weeks.

No way will English be allowed to fly in and travel around the country in July!

There is now a very strong rumour in the papers that classes in schools will be operating at half capacity only when they reopen in September.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 18:57

Sorry, that was to @chocolatesaltyballs22, you won't be able to come.

Nor will anyone.

The agency is stringing you along. You need to look into your rights very carefully.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/05/2020 19:16

Yep I'm starting to see that @BillieEilish and I'm furious that the apartment owners are being so unreasonable. It's not like it's our choice not to go. And to add insult to injury, we can't even rebook the same apartment for a future date as they're selling it.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 19:22

I doubt it. I was going to Primavera Sound, which was originally in the first week of June, but it's been moved to the end of August. I've still got to change my flights.

Wired4sound · 05/05/2020 19:27

We are booked to go to Lanzarote at the end of June through jet2.

We’ve been trying to contact them for weeks to reschedule.

It’s now time to pay the full balance and I’m dithering about what to do as I don’t want to pay the balance and jet2 not allow us to change the dates to next year.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 19:31

I'm surprised Ryanair haven't cancelled my flight yet. I'm supposed to fly out to Barcelona on 6th June and as far as I'm aware, they're not allowing Brits into Spain.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 19:34

@chocolatesaltyballs22.

I own a property here that I used to rent out.
I no longer rent it out. This is because regulations have changed quite drastically in the past year.
You now need so many licences, a tourist licence, checks by council. You need to inform police. You need to pay lots of tax.

Do you have a tourist licence number for the property? Who did you book through? I doubt they are legal, especially if selling and I'd be interested in their taxes. Have they paid the huge annual fee to do what they are doing, for example? Or not, as they are selling Hmm

Are they Spanish?

Seriously, a quick dig around on this and a threaten to denounce them to the police might result in a quick compensation, just to keep you quiet. IF they are doing something illegal (which I would say they were) but clearly I have no idea. (Apart from 15 years experience)

Disgraceful that they won't reimburse.

Another thing... If that doesn't work, you have (in laws) family in Spain who want to use the villa at that time as you can't and you are giving it to them for a present. You understand Spanish should be able to travel around the country by then. That will sort the men from the boys... At the very least, they will have to pay quite a bit to get it all ready, meet and greet... pay the agent. Nobody will turn up.

This will annoy them!

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 19:37

@PhilSwagielkathere is not a hope in hell you will be going to Barcelona in a month.

As far as I am aware, you need to wait for them to cancel to get all money back. Hold your ground.

Again, I am no expert, but this is the advice I have read.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 19:39

I figured as much. Like I said, they moved Primavera to the end of August and I managed to get my hostal booking cancelled/moved without having to pay full whack. Should I wait until the end of May to phone the airlines (I was going to be travelling there with Ryanair and back with Easyjet) and cancel?

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 19:39

I couldn't go to Barcelona in a month and I live here!

I can't go to the beach 10 minutes away!!!

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 19:40

I'm wondering if Primavera's even going to go ahead in August now, tbh.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 19:42

I'd wait... at least a few more days. Fingers crossed for you.

It's not 'Brits' its Spanish people too who are having to cancel their holidays. All of us.

If I wanted to see family in Madrid in July, it would be touch and go... if they wanted to travel to see me on the coast, same thing. Really.

Nothing, nothing will be open anyway.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 19:44

Personally, I think August is extremely doubtful. But it could all change suddenly at the end of July (I really don't think so)

RosesandIris · 05/05/2020 19:50

I’m supposed to be flying to France early June with Ryanair. Ryanair have only cancelled flights till end of May. Not sure what will happen but we’ve cancelled the accommodation . Praying the flights are cancelled too.

GinnyStrupac · 05/05/2020 19:59

Especially with concern about a second wave, I'm not feeling confident about the UK in October or even early next year, never mind June overseas.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/05/2020 20:14

@billieeilish I will message you if that's ok. I don't think the property is Spanish owned, and I've booked through a local agent in the town where we stay. But what you've said could be quite helpful - thank you.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 20:40

@chocolatesaltyballs22 feel free to message. This is not above board IMO, sounds suspect and I may have some tips on dealing with it.

Livelovebehappy · 05/05/2020 21:05

Some countries, for example Spain, are quite hostile to receiving tourists for the foreseeable future. And I think I’d be worried that i might get out there, and then the virus had a second wave and I was stuck out there with no flight to get back.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 21:52

@BillieEilish I can imagine. I said 'Brits' cos I was reading up about restrictions on the Ryanair site and the UK wasn't on the list of countries where people were allowed to travel from.

I'd quite happily swerve Primavera, tbh. I was looking forward to it but everything is so up in the air and I don't even know if the new dates will go ahead. My stepsister nearly got stranded in Argentina and my stepdad, her mum and the uni had to pull all the stops out trying to get her home, and this was before lockdown started here. I also follow Attila the Stockbroker on Facebook and he's pulled out of Rebellion (which is in August in Blackpool) as he isn't sure if it'll go ahead, and I think he's quite high-risk. Can't remember why, think he's got some kind of lung problem.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 21:53

@RosesandIris if that's the case it might be worth me hanging on for a bit longer.

BillieEilish · 05/05/2020 23:20

@PhilSwagielka oh I didn't for a minute mean it was you that suggested 'Brits' were unwelcome. It is all over the news. But the truth is Brits along with everyone are unwelcome. There is a bit of 'Well they only have tourism' attitude towards Spain, which I resent.

Even the people of the country can't travel within it!

I didn't mean you personally, apologies.

PhilSwagielka · 06/05/2020 09:39

'They only have tourism'? How do you mean?
