Takeaway food for delivery time piss take

BewilderedPiskie · 03/05/2020 22:02

Hi.
My first post having found SOOO many things in this area in the past unbearable but let it go. I do not think I am an unreasonable person but I like to be able to eat when hungry. (I accept this is very first world).

My husband is laissez-faire about takeaway delivery. He will order through whichever delivery company shouts the loudest and pay no attention to arrival time and I'm afraid tonight for me was the last straw. I am happy to get in touch with the "alleged food provider" on his behalf if stuff doesn't arrive or is substandard even though I am not the official recipient of the order but often (like tonight) he hasn't even got a vague sense of what he should be willing to accept or when!

I was drawn in when he suggested kebabs at 6.20 pm and placed the order for immediate delivery. Should be ASAP from a local provider via Food Hub according to the delivery but when it gets to 8.40 pm and I lose my fucking shit because it is yet to arrive and I am ravenous I am treated as mentally unstable because I think it might be sensible to call the provider and find out why the food has not arrived. He literally WILL NOT take responsibility for this and behaves as though I am a mad woman for even wanting to know when our food might arrive. Since the order has been placed through his account I have no official info about when the food should have arrived or the contact details to get in touch. I end up making myself a cheese sandwich as he refuses to get in touch with the provider about when it's due and I am cross with him because of his lack of interest in sorting it out. The order eventually arrived but am I being unreasonable with to be mad at him for not trying to sort it out before the timescale became ridiculous and having to feed myself with something FAR less tasty due to massive hunger!!!!

We mainly eat good healthy home cooked food so such a decision should be a treat and an indulgence NOT a stress.

In normal circumstances I'd agree with you, but at the moment I think it was a bit naive to order a takeaway at 6.30pm and expect it any time soon. In my area the takeaways that are open are taking orders from 1-4pm and delivering on a first come first served basis from 5pm onwards. I haven't even attempted to order one since lockdown but friends have said they had to call 120 times to get through etc (personally I couldn't be bothered with that much effort for a takeaway, much easier to just cook at that point imo).

turnthebiglightoff · 03/05/2020 22:10

I'd calm down. That's things happen. Your post is tedious. YABU

It's sooooooooo busy this weekend. It has been busy since lockdown, but this weekend is so far the busiest (payday I assume). So I would certainly not expect hour.

To your point though. Does your DH work in hospitality? We are now the ones doing "aww. They must be super busy. I am not going to just add to it by calling. It will come eventually"Blush

mollibu · 03/05/2020 22:13

YABU. These things happen, especially at the moment a lot of take away deliveries are being delayed. Our Indian earlier was a 2 hour wait.

There is literally no point getting so angry about it. Calm down. HTH

Ponoka7 · 03/05/2020 22:13

That delivery time is a piss take and your husband is a mug. You need your own account so you can take charge.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 03/05/2020 22:13

Is foodhub like justeat?

RedRed9 · 03/05/2020 22:14

I think you were hangry.

Going forward: order it on your own account. That way you’ll feel more in control.

TemoraryUsername · 03/05/2020 22:15

when it gets to 8.40 pm and I lose my fucking shit because it is yet to arrive and I am ravenous I am treated as mentally unstable because I think it might be sensible to call the provider and find out why the food has not arrived.

Did you really do nothing for 2 hours and 20 minutes and then "lose your fucking shit"?

Are you really incapable of managing your own emotional state better than that?

EmmiJay · 03/05/2020 22:17

That food delivery would have been cancelled after an hour in this household. But I'm in London so anything over 2hrs is an eternity and a piss take in my books.

ScarfLadysBag · 03/05/2020 22:17

YABU for ordering kebabs. And the rest.

mrsbyers · 03/05/2020 22:20

Been drinking ?

BewilderedPiskie · 03/05/2020 22:21

I accept I was totally hangry and I do not have an issue with the delivery place itself just his could not give a shit attitude!! If i had had control of the details I could have made my own decision but he was without any interest in resolving the issue which drives hungry me bonkers!!

You sound over the top what was stopping you ringing them yourself.

GreytExpectations · 03/05/2020 22:23

You sound crazy, OP. Calm the fuck down, it's the weekend and the current situation on top of that makes delivery times longer than normal. You were being naive and probably hangry.

Starlight1243 · 03/05/2020 22:24

This reminds me of the snickers advert you're not Hungary till you had you're --snickers----kebab

CoronaIsComing · 03/05/2020 22:25

Ok you definitely sound hangry! 2 house is a long time but takeaways have had longer waiting times since lockdown began. Just Eat had over 700000 orders last night! If you decide to order again, I’d recommend ordering about 5pm at the latest.

speakout · 03/05/2020 22:26

You should have thought about the situation for yourself.
To place an order at 6.30pm on a weekend evening during lockdown- you were unlikely to get that food anytime soon.

If my OH had suggested that- I would have told him to vrack on, but sorted out my own meal.
We had an Indian on Saturday night- as others have explained many food outlets will take orders in a queue in the afternoon.
I placed my order at 3pm and booked a 6pm collection slot.

You have to be organised and think ahead right now- that goes for you as well as your OH.

TriciaH87 · 03/05/2020 22:26

Our local chippy is doing delivery only. Yesterday I order it at 11.47.they take delivery orders from 11.45 until 2pm. I ordered for 7pm and it says half hour either side. Was nearly 8.55 when it arrived. I'm not going to lie if it got to 9 I was phoning as waiting to feed kids and needed to sort something if it had been forgotten about. When it was delivered they apologised I said it was fine but a bit of advise it would be sensible to update people if its going to be that much later to check they do not want to cancel incase young kids are waiting and to make sure they don't sort something else instead.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 03/05/2020 22:26

Yawn

Daily Mail fodder again?

Fluffybutter · 03/05/2020 22:28

I get you .
We have always had a takeaway on a Friday even before the shit show but it has been an absolute abomination the last few weeks.
We understand that some places are shut so less choice ,we understand that we will have to wait a bit longer but we are not understanding why we have to pay more money for lower quality food or even no food in a couple of instances !
Our latest one was late and then when it turned up it was cold and my chicken “fillet” burger was flat as a pancake , dry and had about 10% of the chicken .
One takeaway a couple of weeks before that was missing the main component of fish and chips ,meaning we waited 2 hours past delivery time and they’d not given us the fish!
Couldn’t even call them as they weren’t answering the phone .
We are left with the choice of pizza or curry now and that’s it .

I know it seems ridiculous to get worked up about it but we work bloody hard in the week and really used to look forward to not having to cook on a Friday night .

DonnaDarko · 03/05/2020 22:30

I don't understand this queue system others have mentioned. Ours are open at the normal times and delivering within an an hour - hour and 30 minutes.

But you really need to calm the fuck down.. if you're that hungry, have a sandwich or a piece of fruit, jeez.

Dotty1970 · 03/05/2020 22:31
Biscuit
BewilderedPiskie · 03/05/2020 22:32

I think you are very probably correct about the 5pm cut off point. The ravenousness just kind of creeps up on you until you are all of a sudden without reason. IYSWIM.

AJPTaylor · 03/05/2020 22:32

Our local takeaway last Saturday had 200 delivery orders. I ordered at 5.50 It arrived at 8.45.
I hear you though. I hate waiting for takeaways and not knowing when, or if, they are coming!
