Saw one mother post about their 'sexy little man'?
One year old doing a pose.
Personally I just think it's weird.
AIBU to think calling your child sexy is weird??

OP posts:

I really hate it. I also hate it when people refer to a child's behaviour as flirting.

Me too! I always call people out on it.

Sometimeswinning · 02/05/2020 23:34

It's a word. It's all about context. If shes planning on hiring out her child then that's sick If she's just using a word then ignore it. Her friends will know she's not serious!

GingerRodgers18 · 02/05/2020 23:35

Horrific

Midsommar · 02/05/2020 23:41

Yeah it is completely weird.

A guy I used to know ages ago use to get his toddler son to raise his fingers in a V symbol and lick between them. Yep.

I am by no means a prude but that something I never ever want to see again.

recklessruby · 02/05/2020 23:51

It s yuk.
The other day I was walking past a toddler wearing little pink shorts and one of the relatives (I suppose) with her wolf whistled and said "look at your sexy legs". I was like what? Your kid s about 3?
An old one here but ds is 32 now and when he was little older relatives would comment on his beautiful blue eyes and long eyelashes and say "you ll grow up to be a heartbreaker wont you? He ll get all the girls that one".
Yes because I really want my son to break girls hearts and cheat on them Hmm

Slothkin · 03/05/2020 05:38

@namechangecareerchange ta mate, my early doors yoga is going to be much improved with Mr Bombastic in my head 🤣

sashh · 03/05/2020 05:52

I hate it too. The p[erson who said it in front of me later said it about the puppy she was buying. It was strangely easier to say it was innapropriate when it was a dog than a child. The child was 7ish so I didn't want tosay anything in front of the child.

Reginabambina · 03/05/2020 06:01

Some people have very poor language skills and think that sexy has the same meaning as good looking.

Reginabambina · 03/05/2020 06:03

@recklessruby that’s not what the term heartbreaker means. It means someone who is so attractive that others pine for them and inevitably get heartbroken when that person settles down. The appropriate word for what you described is arsehole.

nymrgn · 03/05/2020 06:12

That's quite creepy

SunShine682 · 03/05/2020 06:16

My partners mum used to do this and then one time I pointed out to my partner it’s weird because what’s ‘sexy’ about a child.
He mentioned it to her as he agreed and she’s not said it since.

1066vegan · 03/05/2020 06:17

It's not something I've ever come across an adult saying in RL but I would find it weird and gross if they did.

Dd went through a phase many years ago of calling herself sexy and asking if she was sexy. She was only about 8 or 9 (can't really remember because it was so long ago). It was obviously a phrase that she'd picked up and not really understood. It made me feel really uncomfortable; I said that it wasn't a word to describe children but she was very pretty (objectively she was very ordinary looking but was obviously gorgeous to me). I never really knew an age appropriate way to explain what sexy meant and why she shouldn't use it.

catfeets · 03/05/2020 07:07

It's very odd and inappropriate. My godmother used to call my cat sexy and I remember finding that weird as fuck even as a child.

penmanship · 03/05/2020 07:35

It’s really grim. Also the same as people who refer to their sons as “my boyfriend”.

A guy I used to know ages ago use to get his toddler son to raise his fingers in a V symbol and lick between them. Yep.

Christ!!

LunaFabre · 03/05/2020 07:41

My MIL has been calling my DS a “sexy little baby” since he was born. DP thinks I’m being too harsh when I say it’s weird. Confused

1066vegan · 03/05/2020 07:56

@LunaFabre That's gross.

I think I'd be tempted to reply "Who do you think would find him sexy? " in a quiet, puzzled voice. Might make her stop and think and realise what she has actually said.

LunaFabre · 03/05/2020 08:51

@1066vegan I might try that if I’m feeling brave enough. I thought I was overreacting but this thread has made me realise I’m not!

Chimpd0g · 03/05/2020 08:53

Ewww

namechangecareerchange · 03/05/2020 09:28

@Slothkin you are welcome 😁
Namaste 🙏

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 03/05/2020 09:50

@LonelyBones there is a (small) possibility that she means it like we do in Cornwall? i.e “my lover” is the local dialect way of saying “love” or “darling”.

All the older generation when i was growing up called children “my lover”, definitely nothing sexual about it.

There was a lot of Cornish immigration to some parts of the USA (mining industry) so it’s possible the term travelled to some areas?

greenyblueeyedgirl · 03/05/2020 12:05

A guy I used to know ages ago use to get his toddler son to raise his fingers in a V symbol and lick between them. Yep.

That is another tier of disgusting-ness. Why on earth would he think that was acceptable?

poolsofsunshine · 03/05/2020 12:13

I agree with you, but also with posters saying it's most likely someone with a limited vocabulary who doesn't really engage their brain and actually think about what the words they use mean.

Lots of people don't think much - nothing to do with intelligence in some cases, just a disinclination...

PumpkinP · 03/05/2020 12:44

My mum use to do it with my son when he was a baby, I never said anything but did find it very weird!

safariboot · 03/05/2020 12:50

A 1 year old? Fucking hell! Completely and utterly inappropriate.

Standupthisisnotateaparty · 03/05/2020 12:51

Personally I wouldn’t use that term but language does evolve. The term sexy doesn’t have the same meaning as it once did. I assume she is a young mother. I’m around teens a lot. Iv heard them refer to a new pen as sexy.
