There's a giant spider in my house. I'm all alone and I'm.petrified of the bloody things. Please tell me the least traumatic way of getting it out of the house. Thanks

I place a large glass over it and then slide a piece of paper underneath then take it outside.

nightimebrowser · 02/05/2020 17:22

Hi, first of all, don't worry, I have phobias too so I know that won't help but you'll be okay!

I would get a large see through glass or bowl and put it over it, then a piece of cardboard or a a thin baking tray if you have one to slide underneath, pick it all up and deposit far away from the house outside. Alternatively, squash it if you can't deal with being close to it alive?

kerrymucklowe2020 · 02/05/2020 17:25

Didn't realize I enabled voting. Thanks for voting IABU-I take it you don't have any phobia's then?

Towel over the bugger. Launch it over then scrunch up and throw outside. Leave for a week Grin.
Glass or bowl don’t work as you have to get too close!

kerrymucklowe2020 · 02/05/2020 17:29

Thanks evil and night - I'm not up to the glass removal method yet.

Always have lemon and peppermint oil thing at home. Drop into corners and areas where they can hide every few days. Magic

PuppyMonkey · 02/05/2020 17:36

I place a large glass over it and then slide a piece of paper underneath then take it outside.

People who are scared of spiders cannot do this.

Have you got a Dyson or something with a long wand bit, OP? I have been able to get close enough to do that on occasion. Do you know where it is?

PuppyMonkey · 02/05/2020 17:37

The spider, that is, not the Dyson Grin

TheMandalorian · 02/05/2020 17:38

Just leave him. He's beneficial, eating all the bed bugs and what not.
Or you will have to man up and get a large bowl and thin, stiff card.
My brother instilled a terror of spiders when I was young. However, mum refused to get them and Dad always seemed to drop them for them to run into the unknown. It was better for me to dispose of them myself.
I dont advocate this at all but you could vacuum it up if you are petrified in place.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 02/05/2020 17:38

Last resort but involves killing it: spray it with hairspray Sad

Windyatthebeach · 02/05/2020 17:42

kerrymucklowe2020 · 02/05/2020 17:47

Empty in the bin.

Windyatthebeach · 02/05/2020 17:53

Then order this...

Help me deal with this please ( phobia )
applesauce1 · 02/05/2020 17:54

Don't do the vacuum. They get out. I've seen it happen.
OP, you have my absolute sympathy. I have terrible arachnophobia and regularly wake my husband in the night doing bizarre things due to night terror (standing on the edge of the bed convinced there are spiders everywhere etc).
I would never be able to get a cup over a spider.
I would attempt to kill it from a distance. I know it's not kind, but I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing it was somewhere loose in the house.

I've thrown heavy books from the safety of a chair (books that I know I don't want to read!) with some success.

Good luck.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 02/05/2020 17:54

Windy what if it get stuck and then comes out if the hoover later ( am I overthinking this)

Forget the Mary in the Dyson from Royle family- what about Incys in the dyson

Apple- I have a wicker washing basket - it's climbed in there,.....

tiredanddangerous · 02/05/2020 17:55

In the past I’ve launched something heavy at them from the other side of the room. There’s no way I could get close enough to put a glass over one.

Pumperthepumper · 02/05/2020 17:55

Put shoes on. They’re somehow worse if you’re barefoot Flowers

slipperywhensparticus · 02/05/2020 17:57

Can you put the lid in the basket and chuck it outside?

LochJessMonster · 02/05/2020 17:58

Can you chuck the basket outside?

Use the long nozzle on the vacuum, then take the vacuum outside, empty the contents into a flower bed or bin. Least the vacuum out there if you are that worried.

Please don’t hairspray it, that will be excruciating for it.

AdaColeman · 02/05/2020 18:06

For the longer term, lots of Zoos offer courses to help you overcome a fear of spiders, might be worth looking into taking one.

Bumsmet · 02/05/2020 18:10

Hoover with the long bit then put the hoover outside, far far away

Bumsmet · 02/05/2020 18:10

If it’s a really bis spider, you need a lot of hairspray for that trick ConfusedBlush
