To think 30 is still young

Takemebackto · 01/05/2020 20:14

I was talking with my mother today and said that my nephew is still quite young. She said he’s not really young anymore. Aibu to think 30 is quite young considering the life span of humans.

OP posts:
Traviis · 01/05/2020 20:15

Hard to say without the context.

RememberTheSunnierDays · 01/05/2020 20:16

Yes. I had my first baby at 30 and no way did I feel grown up enough for that responsibility. Everything happens much later in life now, so yea, 30 in my view is young.

Womanlywiles · 01/05/2020 20:16

Definitely. I am 51 and don't feel old at all, although I thought it was ancient and definitely "old" in my 20s.

Mandraki · 01/05/2020 20:16

Young for a human, bit old to still be breastfed. Need a bit of context.

Gawdsake2020 · 01/05/2020 20:16

No not really! I’m nearly 30 and feel passed it. 😂

DivGirl · 01/05/2020 20:16

Depends on the context. If it's health-wise and risk of illnesses then it's young. If it's getting on the property ladder or married then it's quite young.

If it's getting a proper job or moving out of his parents spare bedroom then it's not young at all and he should buck up his ideas!

EuphegeniaDoubtfire · 01/05/2020 20:16

I hope 31 is still young...

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 01/05/2020 20:17

Agree with pp.. totally depends on the context.

SachaStark · 01/05/2020 20:17

Difficult to say without the full context. I’m also 30, and still feel relatively young, e.g. not ready for kids yet.

But, if this is going to be about infantilising men, and forgiving him for being a bit useless or something, then no, 30 is old enough to behave like an adult.

Wanderlust21 · 01/05/2020 20:17

I general yes. But as pp said it depends on context. I mean its young enough that I wouldn't expect them to be married with kids or have a successful career. But it's old enough that I would expect them to behave with maturity and respect for others.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/05/2020 20:18

I’m 32. I’m young.

formerbabe · 01/05/2020 20:19

It's too old to be drinking cider round the back of a bus stop but not too old to have children

Context is everything

Roselilly36 · 01/05/2020 20:19

30 is definitely still young.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 01/05/2020 20:22

I'm 53 and consider myself young so ....yep: 30 is barely out of nappies Grin

On a serious note, he's a fully fledged adult and should not be shirking his responsibilities (if that's what this is about). Context is everything.

TenShortStories · 01/05/2020 20:23

Not young to begin a career as a gymnast. Not young to be signing up for 6th form.

Young(ish) for beginning most grown-up things like family/career/house. On the older side for not even one of those to be on the horizon yet, but not exceptional.

Very young for retiring or moving on to 4th marriage or getting a letter from the queen.

Perhaps you and you mum were imagining different contexts during your conversation?

Wolfgirrl · 01/05/2020 20:25

In terms of lifespan, yes, usually not halfway through.

But I always think Hmm when people say they felt too young for babies etc at 30. 30 is quite old in biological clock terms.

amusedbush · 01/05/2020 20:26

I'll be 30 this month and it depends on the context. When I talk to 18 year old colleagues or go to certain bars/gigs I feel ancient. In the grand scheme of things though, I feel it's still young. I'm quitting work this summer to do a full-time PhD and making such a big change in my life feels scary but most people have said things like "you're still young, go for it!" and "you're too young to be stuck in a career you don't like".

I'm the only person in my team at work still in their 20s so that helps me to feel young Grin

Bibijayne · 01/05/2020 20:26

Still pretty young.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/05/2020 20:26

Young for what?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 01/05/2020 20:33

Depends upon the context. Maybe young for some things but middle aged for others.

Old if you are still financially dependent upon parents but young in terms of a career

Squirrelblanket · 01/05/2020 20:34

I was 40 last week and consider myself young. 🤷‍♀️

Thankssomuch · 01/05/2020 20:40

Oh, who gives a monkeys. Old, young. None of us know how long our life is going to be.

ukgift2016 · 01/05/2020 20:41

I am 30 and I feel youngish.

PickAChew · 01/05/2020 20:45

Health wise, young.

Maturity wise, old enough to not be attached to mummy's apron strings and be capable of financial independence and general grown up stuff.

Fred578 · 01/05/2020 20:48

Young for a human, bit old to still be breastfed. Need a bit of context.!Grin
