Today’s been a shit day for me today and so I’m consumed with mum guilt. I’ve recently been furloughed so been trying to keep busy doing a couple of activity’s a day , lunch dinner snacks and at least one walk and some garden time ..

Today has been a complete write off. DS 2 hAs Been up since 5.15am, therefor a lot of tv time has been had for him.. I’ve taken him for a walk, we’ve played a bit , but for the most of it I’ve let him get on with it today with his toys. I’m knackered and feeling the guilt.

What’s your toddler been up to today ?

Ladsladslads · 01/05/2020 16:31

Screaming, mostly.

Ladsladslads · 01/05/2020 16:32

(But quite similar to yours, other than that!)

CheriLittlebottom · 01/05/2020 16:33

Pissing me off.

Not eating.

Waking up early from her nap.

Pissing her big sister off.

Normal day really! Toddlers are hard work.

Wtfdidwedo · 01/05/2020 16:33

I turned Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on for my two at 9am and it's pretty much been on ever since. This has been interspersed with an hour walk, 20 minutes in the garden between showers, ten minutes of snacks, an hour for lunch/dinner and about an hour's random play with playdoh and crayons.

They probably average about 4 hours solid of TV a day at the moment. It started off a lot better but by the 6th week of pretty much lone parenting (key worker husband) I couldn't give a shit if the TV raised my children! (I also opened the wine at 4) So no need to feel like a bad parent when I'm here setting the bar Grin

CaryStoppins · 01/05/2020 16:35

I mostly leave my 2 year old to get on with her toys every day Grin

She has:
Played in the garden on her scooter
Done some drawing/stickers
Played with Happy Land
Played with cars
Watched Hey Duggee/Numberblocks/Alphablocks
Played with play dough
Napped
Eaten snacks
Done some puzzles
I've read her some stories
When her dad gets in from work shortly he'll take her for a walk

Same as every day basically! What more do they need?

KatnissMellark · 01/05/2020 16:35

That's fine. Entertaining themselves is a skill they need to learn! It's good for their development and their mental health (and yours!).

DS had breakfast in bed and watched cartoons with me.
Then he played with some aqua beads we set up together yesterday (Google these, they're great fun)
We went for a (short) walk and fed the ducks
He had a 'rest' in his room for half an hour

Then the rest of the day has been playing on his own with his toys and he's now watching TV in a 'cave' I've built him with a blanket draped over the coffee table.

He's perfectly happy and I don't feel guilty at all! Nor should you!

frazzledasarock · 01/05/2020 16:35

Undressing the baby, baby is crawling so not tiny.

I am currently WFH, so siting n the dining room and toddler and baby are in the living room, which they transform into a pit in a matter of seconds.
Thought it was oddly quiet went to check and baby is stark staring nekkid (thankfully nappy is still on) and toddler has her trousers off and both are happily playing.

Why why does toddler need to undress the baby, just why.

I’ve given up trying to clear the living room up.

They’re both currently down for their naps. And I have a cup of tea!

Umnoway · 01/05/2020 16:37

I have three older DC who I’m homeschooling so he’s usually found wandering around kicking his little football and shouting GOOAALLL when it hits the living room door Grin. He’s 18 months old and mostly just likes kicking/throwing his ball around or building towers with his blocks. I make sure he gets cuddles and stories when I’m finished schooling the older ones.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/05/2020 16:38

30 secs of:
Colouring
“Reading”
Playing fishing game
Trashed my farm
Played with a toy car
Went for a walk with her dad to the corner shop
Refused to nap
Trashed her toy box
Annoyed the hell out of me

Repeat for 9hrs!

Only saving grace is thanks to no nap she’s in bed at 7

Oggden1 · 01/05/2020 16:38

Endless cbbees... We did food shop earlier which took the morning. Then played ponies eg climbing on me and read a book plus cooked lunch.
I feel crap today but been trying to work as well.
It's hammering it down so no walk to see the ducks today.
We have playgough for now

Twigletfairy · 01/05/2020 16:41

Today has been quite productive.

Yesterday was a total shit show with lots of Netflix.

One day is just a snap shot, tomorrow is a new day and will hopefully be a better day. Don't beat yourself up

Nixen · 01/05/2020 16:44

DD 20 months

Up at about 7.30
Dressed, porridge for breakfast
Bit of telly
Out for a walk 9.30-10.15 ish
Home to pull out every toy
Lunch at 11.30 ish - chicken, strawberries, veggie fries, oaty bar
Nap 12.15-3.15
3.15-now - currently playing with duplo, watched an episode of duggee (her favourite).
I’m just about to decide what to make for dinner.
Then it’ll be bath, books and bed - in bed for about 7.30-7.45 usually...

And then I’ll have a big glass of wine 🙌🏼

Nixen · 01/05/2020 16:46

Today was a good day, yesterday was a good day... Wednesday was a shit show! We all have em!

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 01/05/2020 16:47

DD is 2. Some of this she did on her own but mostly we get chivvied along to join by her.

Cbeebies
Hide and seek (everyone puts a blanket on their head basically)
Sand play
Slime play
Watching Bing
Bear Hunt (hide bear, find bear)
Sarah and Duck binge watch
Painting for all of 5 minutes
Cbeebies playtime app
Bubbles
Glitter glitter and more glitter
More Sarah and Duck

And right now, Peter Rabbit. DH and I are doing shifts in between the day jobs, hoping for a walk at some point too. She has been watching a lot of cbeebies content but we've just got to do what we can to get through IMO. It is knackering, I know what you mean, then the guilt sets in but we can't be fun activity super mum all day long. Mum guilt sucks. Flowers

Cremebrule · 01/05/2020 16:50

Ours days really vary. Some days sound like we’re winning at parenting and other days are total disasters. Today has been quite nice. One day earlier in the week was full of screaming and tears, lots of tv, bad food etc.

Praiseyou · 01/05/2020 16:52

End of days here. Raining heavily so only got outside for a little bit. Other than that it's cbeebies interspersed with play doh, guitar, cars and snacks.

I feel bad but there was very little tv last week because the weather was so nice.

Painting for all of 5 minutes

Oh my god yes! He gets so excited about painting, I set it all up. Then he smears the brush across the page once and announces he's finished; and then spills the water while tidying up.

TwistyHair · 01/05/2020 16:55

Tv
Stories
Car mat
Ball run thingy
Making flapjacks
Garden
Shouting
Running around shouting
Weeing on the floor
TV again

Today has been ok. Some days are awful.

crispysausagerolls · 01/05/2020 16:57

Didn’t sleep so a LOT of tantrums. Bit of garden time before the rain. Playing with water inside. Playing on his own with shapes/cars. Some tv. Terrorising our dog. Balls with balls and his kitchen.

That’s it really. The day is nearly over 🎉

crispysausagerolls · 01/05/2020 16:58

@MummBraTheEverLeaking

The painting! Wed we got out the finger paints. 3 minutes of fun followed by 20 minutes of cleaning. 😂

Turtlesone · 01/05/2020 16:58

8 breakfast
9-10ish Fighting over toys, taking turns in time out for fighting
10-11ish we did some puzzles and some books
11-12 played in the garden, normally go for a walk at this point but they were happy in the garden and rain was threatening
12 lunch (not that they ate it)
1-2 running around house/ playing with toys 2-330 attempted nap but they spent the whole time playing with teddies in bed whilst I did some housework/ sat in their room to try and get them to sleep/ I got stressed
330-4 tv, Twirlywoos
Now they are playing with new toy cars while I’m waiting for dp who finishes work at 5, so I can run away.
Then it will be
530ish dinner
630 bath followed by stories
7/730 bed
Normally we have more tv in the post nap slot but they were happily distracted with toy cars so I turned it off. And some days we just have tv most the day!

crispysausagerolls · 01/05/2020 16:58

Agree with @TwistyHair - seems to be either a great day or a horrendous one! No in between - very up and down.

Flev · 01/05/2020 17:00

Stories
Singing
Piling all her toys up at one end of the room
Having a tantrum for various unclear reasons
Eating snacks & lunch
Refusing to nap
Suddenly having a helpful patch and helping put all her toys away
Dusting (waving a cheeky wipe around the whole room)
Watching Sarah and Duck
Hassling the cat

Pretty much a standard day here, although she does normally nap.

RachelRosie · 01/05/2020 17:02

Just to echo what others have said... some days are better than others. A lot more screen time than in normal times

we've had a film this morning whilst i did work emails.

couple of zoom/whatsapp chats with nursery friends

lunch/snack times

a few 5 minute mum games

playing with her tea set

bit more telly because its been a long week and i needed a break (both me and DH are taking turns WHF)

now she is been entertaining herself with a blow up flamingo she found in a memory box for the last 20 mins whilst i'm on here... again dont be afraid to let them get bored.

I find the mum guilt comes in waves. cut yourself some slack. its a bloody hard time.

if anyone needs a smile though, mine has enthusiastically told this morning that Gaston from Ben and Holly is a "ladyboy" because hes a boy that is a lady bird... she's just turned 3. I love her logic.
