Today’s been a shit day for me today and so I’m consumed with mum guilt. I’ve recently been furloughed so been trying to keep busy doing a couple of activity’s a day , lunch dinner snacks and at least one walk and some garden time ..

Today has been a complete write off. DS 2 hAs Been up since 5.15am, therefor a lot of tv time has been had for him.. I’ve taken him for a walk, we’ve played a bit , but for the most of it I’ve let him get on with it today with his toys. I’m knackered and feeling the guilt.

What’s your toddler been up to today ?

Tantrum
Colouring
Playing with toy penguins
Play Cooking
Lunch
1.5 hour nap
More tv

Supposed to go out for walk but tantrum and poo put an end to that

Hopefully sleep soon...
Both partner and I full time wfh in jobs that have got even busier atm. The tv is doing most of the parenting atm. Feel guilty but no choice, lots in same boat.

Jeds55 · 01/05/2020 19:58

@lynzpynz oh yes the socks on/off tantrum. Usually end up with one of each here. Just make your mind up Angry

NoUseNumber31 · 01/05/2020 19:59

3 year old and 1 year old apparently having a joint screaming competition intercepted with hitting each other the head and demanding food.

It's all fun here Hmm

NoUseNumber31 · 01/05/2020 20:01

Oh we made a cake too, 1 year old whined the entire time as he was strapped in his buggy because he's learnt how to climb up his brothers stool and onto the work top.
Fml.

15 month old has-
Face-timed family
Played in the garden (for all of five minutes before it started raining)
Read some books
Coloured in (their hands, mostly)
Launched lunch a genuinely impressive distance
Watched more Hey Duggee than I care to admit.

Not been a great day. We're both FT WFH.

  • in your boat also paddling furiously @Jeds55 - my job has ramped up hugely, as has DHs and how the hell we are expected to both WFH full time and juggle a 20 month old is beyond me. Parenting is occurring by a mix of mama, dada, hey duggee and SNACKS.

Here's to solidarity with my on/off fecking bastarding socks sisters 🧦

MarshaBradyo · 01/05/2020 20:15

Doesn’t nap anymore, hasn’t fit a while

Go, go, go

Luckily has a ten year old to entertain her. Running outside, playing with dolls house, Stickman, bugging daddy who us wfh, drawing everywhere

MarshaBradyo · 01/05/2020 20:22

For a while...

Shinygreenelephant · 01/05/2020 20:24

Got up at 6am (usually 8) so bad start
Cbeebies and Weetabix on the couch while I drank 3 cups of coffee
Threw toys at me while I showered
Played with her toys while I lay on the playroom floor chatting to her
Baby class on zoom for an hour
Went for a walk and fell asleep in the pram about 11, slept til 1.30
Lunch then half an hour of peppa pig while I had mine
Messy play - maybe half an hours play half an hour chasing her round while she wiped coloured chickpea foam on every surface of the house
Stories and cuddles in my bed for an hour
Played with blocks with her sister while I cleaned up then just generally trashed the playroom
Walk with daddy once he finished work
More tv while I cooked dinner and dad showered
Tea, bath, story bed and now she's interrupted date night for more boob 🤷‍♀️ that counts as a pretty good day round here, had plenty of shit ones too
hope your day is better tomorrow

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 01/05/2020 20:27

DS is 3.

He ride is balance bike round the drive repeatedly, asking for a snack after every lap. He then spent about 20 mins asking for the brio out, I got it out, he then upended it all over the floor, played with it for 4 minutes then left it.
Repeat for duplo, then some game with tiny pegs, then a ball pit.

At 11.25 I caved and asked DH (wfh) for 10 mins respite care!!

Imohsotired · 01/05/2020 20:28

After refusing to sleep until 3am they (2yo)..

Got up at 7
Ate at least 20 times
Played with farm set, train set and a construction sensory bin for about 30 minutes with each
Read a few times totalling about an hour
Made videos for his grandparents
Played outside mostly on balance bike
Helped DH with gardening
Sat in a box for at least an hour, I've no idea what was entertaining
Screamed for at least 30 minutes but not all at once thankfully. One of those was because I sat too close to the box and another because I didn't bring a surprise home from my short trip to the garage
Watched paw patrol for half an hour after dinner

I'm on maternity leave. I've no idea how anyone manages this and working

BabyofMine · 01/05/2020 20:37

For those talking about painting, magic painting books are a hit with mine. Usborne do magic painting books with perforated edges so I give her one sheet out of the book at a time, a little cup of water and the paintbrush. All the fun of painting and minimal mess. Keeps her entertained for about 20 mins and cleanup is seconds.

MarshaBradyo · 01/05/2020 20:38

We like those too BabyofMine

rbmilliner · 01/05/2020 21:05

Thank god it's not just me!
Rain stopped play for a lot of things today and she didn't want to go out because she couldn't find any mice yesterday?????? (And we had actual tears because we couldn't find them). Honestly it's like living in some bizarre darly painting 🤪
We made biscuits, read a few books, did some letters or at least I did, ate the biscuits - killed about an hour.
Resorted to back to back frozen - again.

Tiredmumma89 · 01/05/2020 21:11

This is my son's life most days. He's two. I have a five year old home too so it's hard!

Day goes like this most days.....

Breakfast and bing.
I go get dressed.
Then I get the kids dressed.
We got for a walk 20-45 minutes roughly.
We get back they want a snack. I do school work for 20 minutes on average with eldest. The 2 year old tends to watch tractor Ted and play with his vehicles until lunch. Then we eat lunch. If it's nice they spend the whole day with the patio doors open and access to the garden. If not they stay in.
Toddler naps at some point but lockdown has messed him up!
Then we have tea. Then they just potter about before bed playing etc

I would love to do puzzles, building etc with him. But they make so much mess. I'm always picking up their mess and doing pots and washing etc.

Kids have to learn to amuse themselves. Don't feel guilty. If it wasn't for lockdown we would be on the school run, at the park, going to my mum's for a cuppa, walking with friends etc. Can't be helped. We are only human too.

gonewiththerain · 01/05/2020 21:47

I thought magic painting was an excellent mess free activity until my 2 year old decided to speed up the painting by ignoring the brush and pouring the water straight over the picture.

The usual. A bit of screaming, some biting, some going limp when I try to get him to do something.... Grin

Other than that, we’ve done the same as you - we have watched Fireman Sam, people watched out of the window, been for a run on the beach with me, been on a dog walk to the park with DH, read some books, run around the garden and cycled his bike around the patio, done some play doh, and done an 80s dance party to queen and cher.
