Hi all
dont do LOA constantly but it has worked a few times.
We have been trying for a baby for 4 months and this I wrote it in my notepad I will have a baby in Jan 2021 after finding out I am pregnant the end of April...yesterday the 30th April I got positive test! And they are getting stronger today. We only had sex twice this month just shows! I also made a mind movie on my phone of preg ladies and babies and watched it everyday for visulisation the universe has listened!!

Nor can you control whether the sperm will find an egg and fertilise it. That's simply biology.

The thing you controlled was the act of having sex.

Writing it in a notebook doesn't affect the sperm's chances of finding an egg. Writing it in a notebook doesn't cause you to have sex.

You were actively trying to get pregnant so you had unprotected sex, thus risking a positive result.

Where exactly does the law of attraction fit in here?

1555CC · 03/05/2020 10:54

As someone said back on the first page or so, we tend to remember moments of coincidence and forget all the times there was no conincidence

That was me. It's called confirmation bias, and it's a well known scientific principle that completely explains away all the woo garbage on here about asking the universe for stuff and the universe delivering. It's just very depressing that in 2020, there are so many people who are too stupid to know or understand how confirmation bias works and realise that this is what's happened to them.

As Mark Twain (I think) once said, it's far easier to fool someone that to get them to admit they've been fooled.

JasperRising · 03/05/2020 10:59

But the people making the negative comments will attract negativity into situations

Well right now I am having a very pleasant and positive day as it happens. And if something negative does happen to me it's not going to be because of any comments I've made on this thread!

JasperRising · 03/05/2020 11:02

It's just very depressing that in 2020, there are so many people who are too stupid to know or understand how confirmation bias works and realise that this is what's happened to them.

It's the same type of thinking that would have blamed a sick cow on an old lady looking at it funny rather than on disease. As I have got older, I have realised that humanity - the good bits and the bad bits - really hasn't changed much. New century, same old shit.

Tramolamodol · 03/05/2020 11:13

Despite my issues with the LoA. I do believe in positive thinking and consider myself to be a "glass half full" type of person.

I've had a really rough few years with some bad luck but as always, I soldier on, I keep going and I try and see the best in everyone and everything.
In the last two months alone, I've developed a stomach problem, caught the flu when I went to have an endoscopy for said problem, then when I was taken to hospital because of breathing problems, I caught Covid19 and this week I lost my job. Also, when I had the D and C, I had to stay in over night. I'd been a vegetarian for months but I ate a ham sandwich because I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours. I then caught Listeria from the infected sandwich.

At my lowest points, I try to remember to be grateful. In so many ways I am incredibly lucky. However, there are some things that I can't be positive about, my miscarriage being one of them.

Kimtendo · 03/05/2020 11:19

Well I hate to tell all you doubters the cold hard truth but unfortunately Law of Attraction is actually real. I didn't believe it either but just last night I called out to the universe and she (definitely female) spoke back. She told me about this wonderful woman called Lauren who is just so great and amazing and everything and that she gives her everything she has ever wanted. She just wishes that all the starving children in Africa would be a lot more like her too but sadly they are not, so no food for them I'm afraid.

Oh wait I have the most wonderful idea! Lauren why don't you start writing down on a piece of paper that world hunger is going to be solved and keep wishing for it every single minute of every day. The universe loves you, I'm sure she'll grant you your wish! Flowers

bee222 · 03/05/2020 11:24

@peperethecat
Sorry to hear you have been through all that Flowers
Oh! To have the confidence to believe 2 lines equals a baby.
I’ve been in that same place as you, the hope and belief something good is happening, then to have it torn away from you, time and time again. It’s horrible, and purely down to really shitty bad luck.
I have a scan on Tuesday - I’m under no illusion that it will be good news. If it’s not good then I guess it’s because, like the OP Lauren here says, I’m a “negative Nancy” (seriously- what adult talks like that?) maybe I should go look at pictures of pregnant women on my phone to appease “The Universe” in preparation.

I hope you get your good luck soon x

Laurend0603 · 03/05/2020 11:26

@bee222 Thank you and I really hope you get good news when you have your scan. Flowers

mammmamia · 03/05/2020 11:31

Not read this whole thread. I did read the Secret once years ago and I found it at best utterly stupid and at worst magnificently offensive, suggesting that people who were ill etc just weren’t positive enough. I can’t believe there are so many people in the world who fall for this stuff. I absolutely believe in making your own luck but I have no time for that book.

VirginWestCoast · 03/05/2020 11:39

😂😂😂.😂😂,😂😂😂😂😂.
😂😂😂.

Is this easier to understand, OP? Is this getting through to you?

Laurend0603 · 03/05/2020 11:47

@VIRGINWESTCOAST I dont care or need anything get through to me 😂 I believe what I do you do differently end of...dont think am that bothered opinions of keyboard warriors... would never mention anyone's Illness or fertility problem and havent once on this thread so carry on arguing amounts yourselves 😊 thread and negativity hidden

OP posts:
Thisismytimetoshine · 03/05/2020 11:53

Oh op, you sound quite heartbreakingly dumb...

peperethecat · 03/05/2020 11:54

@Laurend0603 You don't get it, do you? You don't need to mention anybody else's fertility problems. It's just the suggestion that you are pregnant due to "Law of Attraction" rather than due to the fact that you have normal fertility and had unprotected sex for four months that is offensive and insensitive. It implies that anyone can do it if they do what you did. That just isn't true.

If I were you I would go away, reflect on what you've said and why it might have upset people, and cross your fingers that all goes well with your pregnancy, which is not guaranteed. Apart from anything else, this apparent cockiness and belief that you got pregnant and will be having a baby because you sent the right vibes out into the universe or whatever the fuck it is that you believe will come back to bite you on the arse emotionally if something does go wrong with your pregnancy. Because if you genuinely believe that your attitude is what has got you pregnant (rather than basic human biology and good luck) and then you suffer a miscarriage, it's going to be harder to convince yourself that it was basic human biology and bad luck that has caused you to miscarry, rather than your attitude or anything else you might have done.

MouthBreathingRage · 03/05/2020 11:59

I genuinely can't decide if the OP is not very intelligent, has no empathy or is just on a wind-up at this point.

1555CC · 03/05/2020 12:04

Oh op, you sound quite heartbreakingly dumb

Actually, she's a project manager on the large hadron collider. And lectures in particle physics at Yale and Harvard.

(I might have lied...... she's a dumb as a box of rocks)

bee222 · 03/05/2020 12:08

I’ve said dumb things on the internet before. When people have called me out on it I have listened to them, reflected and thought about how I could maybe not say dumb things in the future. That’s how people grow. Replying with lols, laughing emojis, “keyboard warriors” and “negative nancies” is not how I expect adults to communicate with each other.

ElonsMusk · 03/05/2020 12:09

The amount of 😂 Smilies the OP is using makes me think people should stop feeding the troll.

It’s obvious to me it was written in a way to be goady and get a reaction.

When do the kids go back to school again?

waterlego · 03/05/2020 12:11

Well said peperethecat

If only positive thought could solve everything. My mum had advanced stomach cancer. She was the most positive person I’ve ever met. She talked about how lovely it was to hear the birds singing while she sat in her hospital bed weighing 5.5 stone and in tremendous pain. She talked about the future and what she was going to do when she got better. She planned a river cruise with her sister in law for the following Spring.

Of course she did not go on the river cruise because neither the universe nor her cancer gave any shits about her plans or her fighting spirit.

1555CC · 03/05/2020 12:15

Of course she did not go on the river cruise because neither the universe nor her cancer gave any shits about her plans or her fighting spirit.

Head of nail, meet hammer.

This is the truth of the matter. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, quite frankly, as thick as pigshit.

peperethecat · 03/05/2020 12:17

So sorry for your loss @waterlego. Your mum sounds like she was a wonderful person. You must miss her so much. Flowers

acatcalledjohn · 03/05/2020 12:41

Of course she did not go on the river cruise because neither the universe nor her cancer gave any shits about her plans or her fighting spirit.

This is it. Some people are glass half empty, get cancer and catch it early enough to recover. Others remain positive, like your mum, and die. Because it's fuck all to do with any universe.

So sorry. This is exactly why LoA needs to be called out for the smug bullshit peddled by bone idle people that it is.

MouthBreathingRage · 03/05/2020 12:47

Absolutely. I know someone who was diagnosed with a terminal illness. They were told they had weeks, a few months at most. Now sadly it did end their life, but 6 years after initially being told they would die. In that time they were entirely depressed and basically just waited for the inevitable - I'm not saying they were in the wrong, fuck knows how anyone would deal with that hand, but unfortunately there's those who will have no time and still be positive, and those who have much more but never use it. Nothing to do with the universe or positive think, just luck and lack thereof.
