Just got lucky with a delivery slot for Sat 16th May to send a delivery to my son. There were 6 other time slots available at that time. Went through it all with him, got to 68 items, all good, came to check it out, put payment details in,etc - and it’s bloody well disappeared, the slot has now vanished!!
Just gone!
It’s telling me to choose a delivery slot..... of course, now there’s none left😡😡 Good God! I’ve spent ages faffing round to sort this out, over- joyed to get this slot - then - poooof,! Gone!

AIBU to be damn furious with Tesco..?

P.S have been regular online shopper with them for 12 years now... I’ve never had this happen in all that time😟

You're meant to choose your slot first then you get two hours to check out or you lose it?

Sillybilly6 · 30/04/2020 17:51

It says on the front page to check out first then add items, it also clearly states you have two hours to check out, there’s a timer and everything telling you how long you have left to check out.

Ghostlyglow · 30/04/2020 17:55

You need to grab the slot first. Put some bottles of wine and other expensive things on, check out, then you can amend it and put on all the things you want.

SciFiWoman · 30/04/2020 17:55

I chose the slot before I even started the shopping! Like I said, I’ve shopped online with Tesco for 12 years, I know how it works! I did the shopping in 44 minutes, using the “favourites” list, making it much quicker.
They nicked my slot!😡

How annoying! One of my friends thought she would treat herself to a Waitrose delivery as a treat. Booked it, researched recipies and added everything on. The day before she got an email to say it was cancelled - no explanation or apology! She was gutted

flumposie · 30/04/2020 18:53

These days I stay up until Midnight to get a slot if lucky. As soon as I get one I put bottle of expensive champagne in the basket and pay. That way i can go back later and add the items i really want. Shopping process takes about15 seconds.

sarahC40 · 30/04/2020 18:58

Happened to me too. Stay up till midnight if you can, as I’ve managed to get one the.

tealandteal · 30/04/2020 19:10

Here they have started releasing extra slots throughout the day. I find the app much better but use the website to sign in to my mum's account and booked her one this morning for May 11th. I stick a bottle of champagne in and checkout straight away. This is what I I always do, even before lockdown and I am certain at some point point a very confused driver is going to deliver me a single champagne bottle (I don't drink)

SciFiWoman · 30/04/2020 19:23

Thanks for your advice, all! I’m just soooo annoyed with them!! They spend the rest of the year sending me junk mail “as one of our loyal customers..” then pinch my slot!!😡 I’ll keep trying throughout the evening and pounce on a slot (if lucky enough to get one!) I’m the sort of narky old bugger who would sit up all night pressing ‘refresh’ cos they’ve annoyed me!🤣
Auto-correct keeps changing ‘slot’ to ‘slit’ so apologies if I offend anyone by accident 😉

Choose the slot, add 6 bottles of gin and checkout. Slot is secured. Then go back and edit to something sensible.

Asuitablecat · 30/04/2020 19:44

We've been tesco online customers for about 14 years. They've basically said there aren't enough slots, so come to the shop. We have asda a lot nearer, so.won't be driving past it to Tesco- that was the point of delivery. Clearly Tesco are making so much from.their new sign ups that they can.afford to ditch their regulars.

goingoverground · 30/04/2020 19:46

I've been having a similar problem with Amazon Fresh. It says a slot is reserved for me for 60 minutes, it counts down but if I continue shopping, the slot goes poof when I try to checkout. One time it even showed the slot as still being reserved for me as I was checking out but wouldn't let me select continue unless I selected a different slot. I've taken to leaving my basket filled so if a slot becomes available I can checkout immediately. I guess the software is in meltdown at the moment.

ChippyMinton · 30/04/2020 19:48

I found a click & collect slot at about 11.30pm last week, and was merrily filling my basket when the ‘you are in in a virtual queue’ message filled my screen. I waited patiently and just after midnight my slot and basket reappeared. I have never checked out so quickly!
This week when I found one I added my previous shop and checked out immediately.

It’s so unpredictable.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/04/2020 19:51

Really irritating for me to say this but I wouldn’t gamble with holding the slot, doing all my shopping then relying on it to still be there when you check out

I also put a few bottles of gin in my basket, check out to secure the slot then go back to edit the basket with my proper shop

I’ve managed to get 2 delivery slots recently by checking throughout the day and night. Being up for those 4am breastfeeding slots is actually coming in handy.

Navy123 · 30/04/2020 19:55

Why do you all put champagne or similar in to book a slot? There's no minimum to reserve it, you can check out with one loaf of bread if you like! The £4 charge is removed once you edit it to be over the minimum.

MeridasWisp · 30/04/2020 20:08

The supermarket websites are overloaded with people trying to book slots and can make errors. I'd check the slot out as quickly as possible with a few items in the basket, then go back and amend it later.

EdwynCollins · 30/04/2020 20:09

I put gin or Jack Daniels in so if I forget to go back I'm still happy Smile

MintyMabel · 30/04/2020 20:11

Yes. And it’s really obvious isn’t it? Except it took my mum (who has only just started online shopping as she can’t go out for it) to point it out to me, and I’ve been shopping online for years.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 30/04/2020 20:14

OP - this has happened to me with Tesco and with Asda. I was bloody furious!

I totally get that slots are oversubscribed, and I have no issues with that as the supermarkets are doing their best. But to have a slot confirmed as yours, you add your items to the basket, only for it to have been mysteriously lost and reallocated is utterly maddening. I think their website just can't cope with the traffic.

Happened twice with Asda and once with Tesco.

I do what others have suggested now - add a single item to my basket, check out instantly so it's confirmed - and then go back in and amend at my leisure. That definitely helps.

Hope you get lucky with a new slot later.

M00NPIE · 30/04/2020 20:20

I always reserve my slot with a pack of bananas, I always wondered why people use Champagne or gin 🤷🏼‍♀️

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/04/2020 20:32

Why do you all put champagne or similar in to book a slot?

You can never have too much champagne.

Itwasntme1 · 30/04/2020 21:08

I already have items in the basket, then as soon as a click and collect becomes available I can check out.

They advise you to book the slot immediately- not to spend a long time shopping, they do t hold them like they used to in pre Covid times.

It’s really annoying and I too feel Tesco’s aren’t being great to long time click and collect customers.

It should be vulnerable first, then regular customers of the respective click and collect or delivery, then everyone else. I have used click and collect Every week since it was I Introduced and now can’t get a slot despite sitting up to midnight every night.

Erictheavocado · 30/04/2020 21:15

I always have an 'open' basket on Tesco. As I think of things I add them so I can checkout a slot as soon as I select it. I also have a similar thing with Asda as I book the slots for my mum.

IamChipmunk · 30/04/2020 21:23

The reason for putting champagne in is because you used to have to have £X worth of stuff to check out.
Then they changed it to just adding the £4 charge if you dont spend enough...

I think!
So habit means people still use champage. I use a couple of bottles of prosecco, i dont like champagne!!

HelloTerrance · 30/04/2020 21:56

We have slots randomly released during the day with tesco. I have managed to get one for this Saturday and next just by chance going online mid afternoon.

I have always had online deliveries but I don't think it is a regular customer thing.
