Just got lucky with a delivery slot for Sat 16th May to send a delivery to my son. There were 6 other time slots available at that time. Went through it all with him, got to 68 items, all good, came to check it out, put payment details in,etc - and it’s bloody well disappeared, the slot has now vanished!!
Just gone!
It’s telling me to choose a delivery slot..... of course, now there’s none left😡😡 Good God! I’ve spent ages faffing round to sort this out, over- joyed to get this slot - then - poooof,! Gone!

AIBU to be damn furious with Tesco..?

P.S have been regular online shopper with them for 12 years now... I’ve never had this happen in all that time😟

I don't know about other stores, but I've been doing online shopping with Tesco for twenty years now and I've always done it the way I do now. And as long as you have
£40 worth of stuff in there by the time they pick the order, the extra £4 charge disappears. I can't answer for other stores, I have recently sorted an Asda delivery for someone else and their system is different, but even there, I have begun to fill a basket so I have stuff to check out with when they need another delivery.

GreytExpectations · 30/04/2020 22:51

Just because someone has used online for years and is a "loyal customer" doesn't mean they should be more entitled to a slot than others.

SciFiWoman · 30/04/2020 23:27

@ GreytExpectations

I didn’t expect to be ‘entitled’ to a slot, was just that I had my slot taken away by Tesco!! I stated the length of time I had online-shopped with them, so that people didn’t think I had not used their site correctly. I was commenting on the irony of Tesco filling my hall with post, coupons, adverts, magazines and offers all because I’m a “loyal customer” then they take my slot away leaving me with no delivery times available. If you think this is acceptable service, I certainly don’t!

Tesco and all also supermarkets are under a lot of pressure right now and have such a high demand. I'd personally cut them some slack @SciFiWoman and be a bit more understanding of the situation. They didnt exactly "take it away from you" on purpose, it was clearly a technical fault down the line properly a result to all the people trying at once. Like the stores are saying if you are healthy then try to go into the shops and if not then like other posters said just purchase one or two items to secure the slot and then come back later to add more items in.

toomuchpeppapig · 01/05/2020 07:43

Any reason your son can't buy his own shopping in store? Presumably if he doesn't live with you then he's a grown man. Unless he's on the vulnerable list he should be shopping in store.

GreytExpectations · 01/05/2020 07:44

Unless he's on the vulnerable list he should be shopping in store.

Actually it's the shielding list that shouldn't be out shopping. Vulnerable is a different list that they are advising to be stringent on social distancing measures but can still go out for nessesities.

Jeezoh · 01/05/2020 07:47

I very much doubt it was “taken away” - that sounds like there’s a person sitting watching you add stuff then deciding to annoy you by removing it Hmm It sounds like a technical glitch, these things happen when you’ve got thousands of people using a website at once. I get it’s annoying but am sure if you keep checking sporadically, you’ll get another one as Tesco are releasing random slots through the day

BlueJava · 01/05/2020 07:53

Choose the slot, put 1 thing in the basket and pay for it (that's the important bit) and then check out. Then go back in and edit the basket - problem solved! Your slot is not reserrved (in my experience) until you have checked out first time.

GreytExpectations · 01/05/2020 07:58

Op, is there a specific reason you need to do your sons shopping? If he or you aren't shielding and are also not got any symptoms so don't need to self isolate then why not go into store?

SpillTheTeaa · 01/05/2020 08:05

I had this happen to me on Asda. I found a slot clicked on it said I had it for x amount of time. Checked out within 20 minutes and my slot magically disappeared. I was furious.

FlyingFlamingo · 01/05/2020 08:07

But they are now rewarding loyal customers - I’ve got a delivery saver pass and I can see a week ahead of people who don’t - I’ve just booked the 28th May (with bananas in my basket, not champagne Grin). There are also loads of slots around now - I hadn’t managed to get one for next week when they got released originally and now there is loads of choice and I’ve managed to get one for the 7th. I’ve been impressed with Tesco overall - my subs have been sensible and there hasn’t been much I can’t get (apart from flour but that’s an issue everywhere). Ocado on the other hand Angry

AmelieTaylor · 01/05/2020 08:10

Have you checked your email??

It did that to me a couple of weeks ago. Checked my 'my orders' -nothing. Read a post on here & it was suggested to check emails...& tada!! It was there. It didn't show in 'my orders' until the next day 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good luck.

IndecentFeminist · 01/05/2020 08:20

Shopping police are out in force I see.

Clutterbugsmum · 01/05/2020 08:45

I always have an 'open' basket on Tesco. As I think of things I add them so I can checkout a slot as soon as I select it So do I.

I then add, make changes before delivery cut off point.

It's only once you have booked and paid for is the slot 'yours'.

Erictheavocado · 01/05/2020 08:46

When the lockdown was first announced, 'vulnerable ' people were told to work from home if at all possible and to have shopping delivered. The shielded group had different, more stringent requiments including the offer of food deliveries.
Since dh and I are both classed as vulnerable, and my employer has decided that as such I need to work from home until the advice changes, we have decided not to go to the shops and to get all our shopping online. Not an issue for us as we've always had online deliveries so we didn't need to sign up for it, just carry on as normal within the restrictions now in place. We share our shop with DC who is also classed as vulnerable due to two health conditions whose employer has also instructed them to work from home for the time being. Despite being a longstanding online customer, dc has been unable to get slots and since they live close by, we share our delivery with them.
The people on here, badgering the OP about her son, should be ashamed. She doesn't have to answer to you, she has no obligation to explain why she orders for her DC. She came on here to rant about losing her slot and suddenly finds herself being interrogated as to her shopping habits.

crystabel · 01/05/2020 09:04

Hi, just wanted to say that I had the same experience this morning on Tesco. Thought payment going through then said something went wrong and appeared to be no slot. I was upset like you and maybe you've already checked but the confirmation was in my inbox anyway when I looked. I then checked app and opened orders list and sure enough it was there!! Good luck OP, hope maybe you have that too x

Propagandalf · 01/05/2020 10:08

OP, have you tried ASDA?

Like you, I've been a regular online shopper with Tesco for 13 years, and now I'm not getting any slots at all. Customer loyalty means nothing at all.

I signed up to ASDA, brand new customer, and I've managed to get a delivery every week during the lockdown so far.

Seems to me that ASDA are dealing with the crisis a lot better than Tesco are.

When it's all over, I'll ditch Tesco and stick with ASDA.

MeridasWisp · 01/05/2020 10:10

Has anyone had a delivery from Asda yet- what was the stock availability like? Were there many missing items on the day?

punbelievable · 01/05/2020 10:18

If your son is on the vulnerable or shielding list he should be able to ring customer services to be put on the list for priority slots. Then you don't need to shop for him. My manager did this and was able to get a next day slot.

They are obviously not singling out loyal customers and taking their slots away from them.....

SciFiWoman · 01/05/2020 10:53

@Erictheavocado

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful reply. There are several reasons why I needed to send my Ds a shop at this particular time, which I won’t be sharing with MN.
Some of the comments on here are goady and far too personal, considering my post was aimed at Tesco, a large faceless company, and at no one single person, unlike certain posters here...

I spent all evening and part of the wee small hours trying to get another slot, still not able to!! I do have a delivery pass... however, Tesco don’t seem to ‘get’ the delivery part of the delivery pass!
It seems from your replies, that Tesco are not the only supermarket doing ‘mischief’ like this! 🙄

I will continue to try and get a slot for the shop, thanks to all who have been helpful and supportive👍

@MeridasWisp I've had click and collect from Asda and they've been absolutely fine. Far easier than Tesco actually.

I've been a loyal Tesco shopper for years but chose not to have a delivery saver. So am I less entitled to slots than delivery saver people then? As it happens I'm fine with Asda at the moment for myself but desperately trying to get a slot for my elderly parents and nothing for weeks.

Iamamoleinahole · 01/05/2020 10:57

Easy, use Sainsbury instead.

SciFiWoman · 01/05/2020 11:26

@Iamamoleinahole

I’d love to, but haven’t got one near, to order from😕

OP posts:
Rockbird · 01/05/2020 11:40

Sainsbury's? Hahahahahaha. That's a joke, right? Because their slots are only for a small group of vulnerable people. Which I have no argument with at all, they're doing a good thing. But if you're vulnerable and not on whatever list they have then you've got no chance.

Vaki · 01/05/2020 11:43

Everyone complaining about loyalty. At the end of the day tesco have doubled the amounts of slots available, they've to offer slots first to vunerable customers as the government asks.
