I’m thinking along the lines of, Tarquin Hector, Giles, Miles , judging by his other children’s names, he likes to be out there in more ways than one😂. His other children’s names are very different Lara Lettice, Cassia peaches, Milo Arthur, Theodore Apollo , could there be a Horatio Starman

It's old fashioned, but I like it.

happyhuman123 · 02/05/2020 14:09

I love Wilfred. He'll get called Wilf for short, which is a very cute nickname. And he has almost as much hair as his Dad!

Talisin · 02/05/2020 14:11

He’s going to be Willy Johnson, that poor child. Penis for short all the way through Eton probably. Or maybe just Dick if he’s really lucky.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 02/05/2020 14:11

Jock (because all Jock’s are now in there 90’s)

Borrie or Caris

TheAirbender · 02/05/2020 14:12

I have a Wilfred and I love the name so much

Toilenstripes · 02/05/2020 14:12

Wilfred is not a nice sounding name but I’m sure some of his future Eton chums will have worse.

YetiAnotherNameChange · 02/05/2020 14:14

I don't like the name, but it's non-offensive and fairly "normal" if old fashioned, so no real feelings either way.
So many names seems to be an upper class thing- all the royals have loads, too.

YetiAnotherNameChange · 02/05/2020 14:15

And if the boy doesn't like it there are several "shorter" options- Fred, Wilf, Will etc.

bellabasset · 02/05/2020 14:19

They've confirmed the name. I immediately thought of the Pip,Squeak and Wilfred cartoons. I was given a lot of Victorian and pre-war books as a child, which I loved, wish Mum hadn't given them away

The80sweregreat · 02/05/2020 14:20

Just saw a pic of the new Wilfred.
He has loads of blond hair!

Aragog · 02/05/2020 14:26

I've taught a couple of Wilfred's in recent years. I am an infant school and they were both called Wilfred rather than a shortening. At least one is known as Wilf now they are high in juniors.

Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas

The names are a tribute to their grandfathers and two doctors who treated Mr Johnson while he was in hospital with coronavirus

blueskys72 · 02/05/2020 14:27

All that hair! Gives me indigestion just looking at it!!

So what do you think Boris and Carrie will call their baby
lowlandLucky · 02/05/2020 14:29

Maximus, Maximillian or Tyler-Covid

Aragog · 02/05/2020 14:30

Wilfred - Boris's grandfather's middle name, though he used it as a first name later.
Lawrie - Carrie's grandfather.
Nicholas - two doctors, both called Nick, who looked after Boris in hospital

MrsFruitcake · 02/05/2020 14:31

I have a DC callled Wilf, he's sometimes called Wilfy. It's the family shortening of William, he's the latest of five generations of Williams all known as Wilf.Smile

lowlandLucky · 02/05/2020 14:32

Just seen that they have called him Wilfred, Wilfie is ok

Elderflower14 · 02/05/2020 14:34

My niece was 18 months old when my Wilf(red) was born.... She used to call him Whiff!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

BestIsWest · 02/05/2020 14:36

I really like it. I had a lovely uncle called Wilfred and Lawrie is nice too.

Millicent10 · 02/05/2020 14:37

Being called Wilfred will be the least of his problems.

NotEnoughTime · 02/05/2020 14:40

I thought the Nicholas tribute was nice but a shame that there was no mention of (her surname) Symonds in the name.

Whatsgoingonrightnow · 02/05/2020 14:55

I’m due in July and Wilfred was one of our top boys names Sad. Not really a fan of Bojo so probably can’t use it now. Sigh.

The80sweregreat · 02/05/2020 15:07

Just call your baby Wilfred if you want!! This child won't be in the public eye like the Royal children tend to be. People will forget or not care : too many other worries especially at the moment. It's a lovely name.
Talking of the royals ; I cannot believe that Charlotte is 5 and looks so much like her great nan! It's scary how she is like her.

The80sweregreat · 02/05/2020 15:09

I'd forgotten that David Cameron had a baby live at number 10 and Tony Blair!
Baby central.

GinnyStrupac · 02/05/2020 15:14

Not entering into any politics either way when a baby has been born.

I really like the name. We have a Wilfred, a Laurie and a Nicholas close to us. Wilfred is known as Wilfred, but also Freddie, Freddo and Fred. I am also a little surprised that his mother's last name is not included.

I had to look on the BBC news website to confirm this though - the photo posted could not look more like a mini-Boris if it tried, and so I thought it must have been photoshopped! But no, he really is a mini-Boris.

Again, keeping politics out of it, best wishes & good health to the family.

The80sweregreat · 02/05/2020 15:17

He looks cute. It's her first and she's had a hard time of it I'm sure.
Babies are hard work in the early days.
I don't envy new mums.
