Captain Tom - What's the fuss about?

Okay I am not knocking Captain Tom at all, he is a brilliant brilliant man.

Although AIBU to wonder why our country has gone bananas over him? All he did was walk laps of his garden, people fundraise everyday and do a lot more! Think of all the marathon runners!

Whenever he is interviewed I think he also seems a bit confused why everyone is making so much fuss too!

I just don't get why our country has become obsessed with him??!

@brassbrass I agree. The NHS should be properly funded. I’m not sure it would ever be possible to provide all the things NHS charities do, though. Anyway, we are where we are. Should we just leave it? Or would it be better to fundraise AND campaign?
And nobody is making him or exploiting him. He’s an adult with his own mind. I don’t get the sense his family are ‘loving it’ in any other way than being proud of him either, really (can’t remember who said that but someone did). Until today I’ve only seen his daughter and they seem very close.

The notion that because Mr Johnson has had yet another child and because he had a fairly close call at the age of 55 ... that this will suddenly transform the whole ethos of the Conservative Party in its attitude towards the NHS and public services in general is completely beyond ridiculous. The Conservative Party supports things like food banks. They support celebrities giving money and doing fundraising. They do not however support things like public libraries. Or things like Sure Start. Or things like striving to have have one of the best health care systems in the world.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:44

@brassbrass only you could link government funding of the NHS and Captain Tom raising 30 million for NHS charities and make this wonderful act negative as well.

Alsohuman · 30/04/2020 16:45

You really need to read my posts @Johng133. That’s twice you’ve had a swipe at me and I’m one of Tom Moore’s biggest supporters. You’re making a complete fool of yourself.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:47

@Cam77 well they are supporting me and my family and all of my co workers currently furlonged

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 16:48

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:49

@alsohuman 🙊🙉🙈be kind

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:51

@ brassbrass galvanised the nation to raise 30 million for NHS charities (fact)

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 16:52

Which will be spent in 5 mins.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:53

@brassbrass your birthday card comment shows the sad individual you clearly are shameful

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 16:55

@brassbrass so your message is “he shouldn’t have bothered” wow

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 16:58

Was Comprehension one of your lessons today? I suspect not. Please try and get your responsible adult to include it tomorrow. If you're participating you're thinking about all these important events which is a good thing.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 17:02

@brassbrass you really struggle with the 30 million raised don’t you.Cant bring yourself to simply applaud it.Your comment about just birthday cards omitted the 30 million. Why do you keep missing that out? Answer because to mention it would make you look the complete idiot you are,and that’s being kind

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 17:04

@brassbrass have you got a split personality or something similar. You are now calling it an important event -well that’s a big swing to the right !!!😂😂

HavenDilemma · 30/04/2020 17:05

I was going to donate until I saw that the money doesn't actually go to the NHS..... Not in the end/ it goes out to the public via 'grants' Hmm

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 17:06

John you're making a fool of yourself but it doesn't really matter

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 17:10

@brassbrass I think the vast majority of responses on this thread would agree that you are the fool who started this thread so negatively about Captain Tom Thankfully the facts show you are wrong So who is the fool really 😂😂

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 17:12

you are the fool who started this thread so negatively about Captain Tom Thankfully the facts 🤣🤣🤣

I can't it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 17:19

@brassbrass your original post asked the question why is the country obessessed with a Captain Tom he raised 30 million pounds that’s the main reason and you can’t even say it.

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 17:21

🤣🤣🤣

DameXanaduBramble · 30/04/2020 17:24

Years in the military

@P1nkHeartLovesCake. Seven years.

Alsohuman · 30/04/2020 17:24

I don’t think brassbrass started the thread. Just saying ...

DameXanaduBramble · 30/04/2020 17:25

I see the frothing has transferred to this thread too.

Johng133 · 30/04/2020 17:25

@brassbrass This was your original post. You start it by saying you are not knocking him and he is a brilliant brilliant man.Why didn’t you stop there. The remainder of the post is a disgrace and totally disrespectful, harsh, condescending and downright rude. All of which accurately describes you.

Okay I am not knocking Captain Tom at all, he is a brilliant brilliant man.
