To be royally effed off at Tesco delivery driver

SoddingTesco · 28/04/2020 21:10

Managed to get a slot for delivery as am officially shielding. Tesco driver turns up so I put out a big plastic box he can decant my bags into and go to the porch window to let him know he can put the bags in there.

Says he can’t. Says my order has high value items and I have to come to the door.

Fine, whatever. I open the door and stand back, explain I’m shielding as I’m classed as vulnerable.

Just laughs and asks if I want the stuff in the box.... no, I just put it out there for a laugh obviously.

Then he decides my peppers might get squashed so leans in and puts them by my feet. He goes on to explain my substitutions and goes to hand me the paperwork. We both just stand there for a bit before I take it off him. He sees this as an opportunity to hand me more bags and unpacked items even though I’ve just bloody told him I’m shielding! My plan was to bring the untouched box into the porch and leave it there but he ended up handing me half my shopping, a receipt and a bloody leaflet about shopping with Tesco.

No gloves, no mask, nothing.

I’m a bit highly strung today as I have recently lost someone close so just want to know if IABU and need to chill out or whether I should complain?

OP I'd suggest stepping away from the thread now, some posters clearly can't imagine how it would feel to be you and are instead delighting in picking you apart. You have every right to complain that he didn't do as clearly asked which has put your own health at risk. You have to remember a lot of people are still claiming COVID is a hoax...

MintyMabel · 29/04/2020 11:41

You have every right to complain that he didn't do as clearly asked which has put your own health at risk

As did the OP.

Why is everyone else solely responsible for her own safety?

JustStayHome · 29/04/2020 11:47

@SoddingTesco

I emailed the CEO and got a reply within 24 hours.

Its happened to me and my nan.

They wanted our address, Which i didn't give, because i don't want anyone to get into trouble, and stated that.
I just gave the area and the start of the postcode..
And just said a lesson in keeping to the 2M distancing would be handy and also to talk to the drivers about the concerns that people have, especially the people who are shielding

JeSuisPoulet · 29/04/2020 11:50

MInty we are in a pandemic and there are protocols which this delivery driver didn't follow. She has upheld her part of the bargain by paying for her goods and this comes with a service of delivery which he did not adhere to. She should feel safe on her own door step and he should understand the health risks and his job enough not to put her life in danger and follow her specific instructions. He is being paid for this as part of his work contract.

Esptea · 29/04/2020 11:52

We've had a mixed bag with Tesco delivery drivers. This morning's also had no idea what 2 metres looked like but when asked unloaded shopping on to the doorstep whilst I went back into the house and waited till he'd retreated down the drive.

Kitcat47 · 29/04/2020 11:53

How do you know the delivery driver shouldn't be shielding? A lot of people who are supposed to be shielding cannot cause they have to work. You sound like a proper drama queen!!!

HandfulofDust · 29/04/2020 11:54

@Kitcat47 don't be daft. If he was meant to be shielding he wouldn't be in work and he'd be doing a better job of following protocals.

AmIAStone · 29/04/2020 12:01

@Kitcat47 if you are shielded your job will be protected, in this house we have made the decision if we were told we had to work we would quit if we couldn’t work from him, it’s that life and death.

@EdwynCollins yes, our sensible precautions are no contact for ever until a vaccine or immunity is proved for people. You do not know people reasons for shielding, for us that’s it. If someone has to leave the have they have to move out and isolate completely for 2 weeks before coming back. As the NY guy says, for us this illness is death.

DecadentDeity · 29/04/2020 12:03

Op you were not being unreasonable to have expected the Tesco delivery driver to be trained on the basics of a contactless delivery. I’m sorry you felt stressed and vulnerable. I don’t know what’s happened MN recently- it was always upfront but I see so little support now and so much nastiness.

DecadentDeity · 29/04/2020 12:05

How do you know the delivery driver shouldn't be shielding? A lot of people who are supposed to be shielding cannot cause they have to work. You sound like a proper drama queen!!! Are you for real? Do you know anything at all about shielding and the conditions that qualify for the list?

EdwynCollins · 29/04/2020 12:06

Stop bloody @SoddingTesco
Live a long life in a sodding box and never step on a road in case you get run over

EdwynCollins · 29/04/2020 12:07

@ ing me not tesco. My phone won't let me put it

Kitcat47 · 29/04/2020 12:08

I think she should of spoke to him instead of moaning on here! I think a lot of people are still working with potential underlying health problems. It's just they dont know they have them. Everyone is going though their own personal experience with this . And people constantly moaning and criticising doesnt help.

dottiedodah · 29/04/2020 12:08

I would complain TBH. He sounds like a complete twat! This happened to us with the postman as well .Unless you live under a rock then you must be aware of social distancing surely? We are not shielding but I was still cross .He will keep on doing it unless told again .Some of them are maybe not too bright but surely this is not difficult to understand FFS!

EdwynCollins · 29/04/2020 12:10

Stop @ ing me is what I am trying to put. I am not interested enough in you to want emails
Thank you

dontdisturbmenow · 29/04/2020 12:10

Just laughs and asks if I want the stuff in the box.... no, I just put it out there for a laugh obviously
Well for a start, you were rude. He asked you about doing what you wanted, so where did he go wrong! What was wrong in asking just to confirm it was indeed what you wanted?

I very much doubt he was laughing at you saying you were shielding!

Then he decides my peppers might get squashed so leans in and puts them by my feet
So clearly he meant well, but why were you standing there at this point rather than standing back?

Same with when handing the invoice. Why were you by the door and how hard was it to ask him to just put it in the box?

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Shielding doesn't make you incompetent.

Glowcat · 29/04/2020 12:13

You’re absolutely right to be upset. Even if you weren’t shielding, all companies have changed their delivery procedures. Ocado have stopped taking back used bags for recycling. Companies have swapped from taking signatures to taking photos from a distance as proof of delivery.

Ignore the muppets. If you’ve been told to shield and basically been told to not leave the house you need deliveries and you don’t need one idiot risking your health by getting close to you.

SoddingTesco · 29/04/2020 12:14

@dontdisturbmenow

I didn’t say that out loud, that was an observation for afterwards. Why would I put the box there if it wasn’t for the shopping AND I had already asked him to put it there.

When he asked if I wanted it in the box again I said yes please. I didn’t scoff at him

OP posts:
SoddingTesco · 29/04/2020 12:15

I was also standing at the other end of my porch, he leaned a LONG way to put it there when he had plenty of space to put it by the door, not next to my feet.

OP posts:
Kitcat47 · 29/04/2020 12:16

Give him a break he is a key worker. Do you really think he wants to be delivering shopping for people in these times? It's not just people dying with underlying health problems.

SoddingTesco · 29/04/2020 12:17

I have clarified in other posts everything that happened and my stance on it now. I’m going to step away from the thread now as I feel I’ve said all I can say to clarify and some of the comments are helpful, some not so much.

Thank you everyone for your opinions and as I’ve said I won’t be taking it further, was just quite shocked at the time as this was my first delivery since I’ve been shielding so thought there would be different protocols in place.

OP posts:
Candodad · 29/04/2020 12:19

Golly, you didn’t explain yourself and he couldn’t read your mind? Terrible service. That and MAKING you put your hands out to accept things with his Jedi mind control *this this the shopping you are looking for

Glowcat · 29/04/2020 12:20

The highest rate of deaths is among those with underlying health conditions which is why they’ve been told to shield themselves by staying at home for months on end.

I’m incredibly grateful to delivery drivers for working through this. One individual risking his own health and that of others by unnecessarily breaking the 2 metre rule doesn’t represent delivery drivers as a whole.

Glowcat · 29/04/2020 12:22

A delivery driver who behaves like that is a potential Typhoid Mary.

DollysDrawers · 29/04/2020 12:25

Wow. Some people are really enjoying trying to make the OP feel crap, calling her stupid etc. What a bunch of weirdos you are that you get a kick out of shit like that.
