AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

Had a few woo things happen over the years, but the most recent was about 4 years ago in our current house. We’ve lived here without incident really for 18 years, the house has a warm loved feel. But one October it got weird.

So it’s a tradition 1930s layout, tiny kitchen at the back and lounge at the front. I’m siting working on my laptop in the lounge, with the dog next to me and hear the most almighty clatter come from the kitchen. I have one of those metal dishwasher tablet containers, it’s kept on the worksurface by the back wall. I’ve had it for like 10 years so not a new item.

The clatter I heard was the lid of the dishwasher tablets, which had somehow flown from the kitchen window wall, to the doorway of the kitchen, which is 7ft away. I don’t know how the hell it happened so I chalked it up to random weirdness.

At the time we had a super chill, very elderly Labrador, she was chubby and didn’t move that fast. She hated the car, and frankly getting off the sofa was more than she wanted to do most days.

A couple of days after the dishwasher tin incident. I went food shopping and came home to find, the dog absolutely besides herself. I opened the front door, she pushed past me, jumped in the car and sat there shaking for a good 20 mins. She wouldn’t get out of the car, she refused to come in the house. So we sat out there for ages. I went inside to get cheese to lure her out of the car, and the bloody dishwasher tin lid was in the middle of the kitchen floor again Shock I walked straight back out to sit with the dog.

It’s never happened again since.

I’ve had a weird one today! Received an email yesterday saying my tv licence has expired & need to enter my drivers licence number to renew it. Went to look for my licence which is in my purse in the baby changing bag but couldn’t find the bag anywhere, it’s usually stashed behind the couch and after searching it didn’t turn up. Assumed DH had moved it. Anyway, I then turned my brain on and went to the tv licensing website as felt suspicious about the email, forwarded it to their phishing team and turns out it is a scam email as I’m not registered with them under that email address (stupid I know but baby brain and very tired so didn’t put 2+2 together). I’ve just gone to plug my hair dryer in behind the couch, and there’s the bag, right at the top plain as day with my purse in it. DH hasn’t moved it, DS is 6 months old, nobody else in the house. DS often babbles and laughs at something in that corner of the room, I’ve never felt it’s anything sinister just someone coming to say hello to DS - I do sometimes ask them to come back after he’s had a nap because they’re distracting him from falling asleep. I think whoever that is was looking out for me and hid my bag so I couldn’t fall victim to the scam email.
DH is more of a sceptic, but also cannot explain how the previously missing bag has turned up today.

My aunt committed suicide years ago when I was a young child.
Nobody told me the truth about how she died until I was a teenager to protect me.

Not long after I found out, I had a really disturbing dream. I was a child again, in our old home and on a sunny day, the auntie that had committed suicide had visited us and died somehow during the visit. Her dead body was laying on the kitchen floor.
My parents for some reason decided to leave me alone with her whilst they went to the undertaker to discuss details about them taking the dead body etc. So in my dream I was alone with the dead body and felt u comfortable so decided to go play outside in the garden by myself. Suddenly the dead auntie, looking very dead and downright frightening, stands in front of the kitchen window and calls me: 'Come to me little girl, I'm your auntie'!

I started to scream in my dream and thankfully woke up.

@VenusClapTrap

It was on the "I don't believe in ghosts but...." thread :)

KettleOn919 · 03/05/2020 14:04

This happened a few years ago, and I'm 99% sure it was some kind of dream. But well, you know...

Right, first let me say I live alone and have no pets. I woke up one morning, hadn't set the alarm because it was a weekend. It was a beautiful warm spring morning, birds were twittering outside and I could feel the sun through the curtains. A few seconds after waking I stretched – one of those huge, luxurious star-shaped stretches.

As I stretched, my right foot touched something lying on top of the duvet that felt about the weight a cat or a small dog. I felt the thing suddenly start and sit up. It was as if it too had been sleeping, my movement had woken it, and it didn't want me to know it had been there. A couple of seconds later the weight lifted, I heard a thud on the floor, and the sound of footsteps as whatever it was ran away into the corner of the room. On two legs.

Years ago I had a sudden splitting pain in my head which I’ve never experienced before or since. I lay down on the sofa and a while later the phone started ringing. I didn’t answer but it kept on ringing back. When I finally answered it was the police to say my brother had had a bad car accident and was in hospital.
He was in hospital a while but is fine now btw!

VenusClapTrap · 03/05/2020 14:17

Thanks OldQueen, I’ll look for that. In AIBU? Chat?

Holy crap @KettleOn919 😱😱😱

Shallistayorshalligo · 03/05/2020 16:02

I have got one for you)) But bear my grammar, English is not my mother tongue.

This has happened 12 years ago when my MIL and FIL decided to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in a beautiful stately house in the middle of nowhere, not far from Aberystwiyth. The house was very grand, this is my picture of it which I took at the time. The right wing of the house had separate entrance and was rented out for holiday makers. The name of the house was Trawsgoed mansion.

We had entire 3 floors to us. With drawing room, dining room, kitchen, massive marble staircase and stag horns out of the walls, bedrooms upstairs.

On the first floor, right by our bedroom, there was a space with kids size wardrobe and two cot beds, some toys. It was suggesting that this space was a nursery, which was very odd to have a nursery right on the landing by the stairs.

I was not very happy to let our daughter sleep in there, she was only three and a half. But typical child, she was adamant this is where she wanted to sleep.

Like I said this was right next to our bedroom, so reluctantly I have agreed.
We had a very nice week in the house and the whole thing has happened on the very last night .

I woke up in the middle of the night to a very clear knocking. It was a proper knock, knock, knock, knock. As if to the door, but it was not. It was inside the house.
I was laying in bed and listening. By my husbands breathing I have realized he is awake too. I have asked him: have you heard it. He said yes.

Next moment we heard a very strong floor board squeak outside of our room and then the sound of our daughter wailing in her sleep. My husband didn't believe in all the ghosts thing and would not even support any conversation related to the subject. But then he said : I don't know what is it, but I don't like it.

We both got out of bed, went outside bedroom. The air in there was so dense and cold! We quickly picked up our daughters bed and brought it in to the bedroom. As I was trying to fall asleep I hear floor board squeak and another knock, knock, knock, knock Confused

We did fall asleep eventually and the next day we left. My in-laws bedroom was on the same floor with us, but further away in the corridor. They have heard nothing.

To this day I remember that experience, I am 45 now and I promise you I did not make it up. I have tried to make a rational explanation, but I could not find any. I am glad it was on our last night, otherwise I would not be able to sleep, relax and have a nice holiday then

Creepiest thing that has happened to you that you can not explain?
Imadogpersonreally · 03/05/2020 16:11

My story is not really that creepy but I'll share anyways.
A new friend of mine who seemed really down to earth and practical, started to drop in on our conversations in a very matter of fact way that the ghost in her house had been keeping her up again. Apparently it was a little boy who would play loudly in the stairs keeping her up.
I didn't know what to say or believe and just nodded if it was mentioned.
Then one day she asked me and few other friends for dinner. She lived in a big 4 bed house with a massive dining room. We were all sat around the dining table, chatting and laughing when the ceiling lights in the empty and dark hallway started to flash. Another friend noticed it too and we were both freaked out, whereas the hostess just stated matter of factly that it was the ghost again. It was already past midnight so I just left soon after.

MulticolourMophead · 03/05/2020 17:06

Shallistayorshalligo your story sounds really spooky.

caringiscreepy · 03/05/2020 17:11

My husband and I both woke up at the same time the other night because we heard the sound of what we thought was one of dcs footsteps going into our bathroom. We both called her name .. nothing.. then went to check their rooms and they were both asleep.

caringiscreepy · 03/05/2020 17:12

kettle Shock that sounds terrifying

Ginburee · 03/05/2020 17:41

I have lots of stories and a photograph.
The worst experience was when I was house sharing as a student. I mentioned to a housemate that I had over the last few week become increasingly frightened going downstairs to the toilet in the night. It had started feeling a little uncomfortable to the point I had started putting my glasses on,then turning the lights on, then running and sometimes just holding it. I couldn't explain to my housemate what it was but it was a feeling of being watched by something very very bad. My (very religious) flatmate had not not felt anytbut said I should ask one of our other housemates as they had told her the exact same thing the previous day.
Sure enough I spoke to her and we had been having the same feelings. This carried on for a while until one Sunday, early evening in the winter, I was in the house alone pottering round. I felt like I was being watched by something by the dining table at the bottom of the stairs, it went deathly cold and I could see my breath, all my hackles were raised and I knew that if I turned around I would come face to face with whatever was at the bottom of the stairs. The lounge was open plan and the front door was accessible, I opened the door and left the house and ran to a friends house on the next road and arrived in such a state.
I hadn't even shut the front door as I would have seen it.
My friend called one of my housemates, who had been at a church meeting, they came along and took me home, nothing was amiss at home but they called the leader of their Church and he came along and there were lots of prayers etc said.
The feeling was better but didn't go away completely. A while later we went out with some friends and mentioned it to them, they were quite dismissive and said "when we stayed over after your party we did a ouija board, using your tarot cards Gin and we got nothing".
We went home and burned my tarot cards, the prayer people came back and the feeling went completely.

Ginburee · 03/05/2020 17:52

Years and years ago I was working as a nursing Auxiliary on a night shift, the registered nurse and I walked round regularly to check on the patients. There were 4 side rooms up a long corridor which was really creepy,as we walked up we heard voices. The nurse asked if I had turned the radio on in one of the rooms, I said no- it sounds like people chatting. We went into a room where someone was very poorly and made them comfortable, that night she died and I swear that the voices we heard were her loved ones coming to be with her.
This side rooms scared the shit out of me, especially the bathrooms for some reason.

Ginburee · 03/05/2020 18:25

This picture was taken in the days of triple print. I was going to a black tie do with my new bf (now husband). The pictures before and after were completely clear and the garden was visable in the background, I was not holding anything.
Years ago I went to a psychic fayre and had a weird experience during a talk about psychometry. The medium held my watch, described any old man and stated my surname which was an unusual one. I saw him afterwards for a private reading, he said I had a guardian angel who would leave me on my wedding day as I would marry for life.

Creepiest thing that has happened to you that you can not explain?
Chemenger · 03/05/2020 18:33

I once dreamt that someone had driven into my car and broken the rear lights. When I woke up I told DH because it had been such a vivid and ridiculous dream. At the time we lived in a flat with an underground car park. When we went down to go to work someone had, indeed, driven into my car and broken the lights. He had obviously been drunk because he was still passed out in his car. The police duly came, said there was nothing they could do because there was no evidence that he had done the damage or that he had been drunk in charge, and we were on private property.

BeatrixPottersAlterEgo · 03/05/2020 19:33

I'm an atheist and I don't believe in ghosts, but I do think there might be something in residual energy type theories

When I was a child, we lived in a tiny little 2 bed council house. It was a cute little place, solid and cosy

Something stood at the bottom of my bed, watching me, almost every night of my childhood. I could see the black was deeper where it stood. You could almost see a shape due to this intense absence of light. Sometimes my mother would leave the hall light on, it would reflect against the wall, and you'd see the shadow moving. Many times I'd wake up, and in that sleepy half asleep state, feel someone standing beside me, touching my face. I'd assume it was my mother, but then I'd hear her out in the garden or in the shower etc, or I'd ask her and she'd say it wasn't her.

I never felt scared, just odd. The feeling of being watched got a bit much at times. I'd chat to it sometimes. Once I kept a box of toys in its corner, and every night I'd wake up to all the battery powered items going off at once. Eventually I moved the box and this stopped happening.

We moved when I was about 10. Many years later, when I was an adult, my mum bumped into a lady who turned out to be one of the first residents of that house, back in the 60s when they were new builds.

She had had a child, a little boy who had been very unwell since birth and wasn't expected to live more than a year. He made it to four, and died peacefully in what would later be my bedroom.

RosesandIris · 03/05/2020 21:02

My father nearly drowned in a swimming pool when he was young. He says an angel saved him from drowning. He was a man with no woo ideas, but was quite matter of fact about it.
My daughter has seen a ghost in the bathroom of an older part of a house she was visiting.
I have not experienced anything apart from once when my daughter injured her leg on a skiing trip. I was going for a walk at the time, and suddenly felt an unexplained pain in my leg exactly where she had injured herself.
My in laws lived in a house which was built over an illicit whisky still. For years, they heard the coughing of an old man under the house at night who used to go there through an underground tunnel.

its not paranormal sadly more earthly evil at play Sad, at 8 yrs old roughly 1998,i was on a family coach trip in Barcelona, theres a big park there? and a large maze? at night there was some fireworks at night to finish the day off. A toddler on a tricycle peddled out of an absolute pitch black maze alone Shock we all were like what the hell??!! some ladies who were speaking Spanish asked him questions, he pointed inside the maze to a shadowy figure a man, he came no closer, the women were shouting to him and he didn't respond Angry the boy was talking to him and just stood there and he shook his head and gestured to come on, and the boy peddled into the darkness following him despite the ladies protests. Sad Even typing this gives me the chills, at that age i had no understanding of child exploitation but i knew something was very wrong. Sad

Shallistayorshalligo · 03/05/2020 23:36

Oh. And I have another one.

It was about 20 years ago, I was on a long haul train to Moscow. My travel was about 18 hours and There was a sleeping compartment. I was not sleepy. So I left my compartment and sat outside in a communal corridor. It was already very late and the lights were dimmed. I was looking outside, could not see much, my train was passing by some forest.

All of a sudden I saw some very strange lights. I don't know how to describe them, really, but they looked like a footballs, however they were made of light. These balls of light were slowly moving and dancing in the air among the trees and I was totally fascinated and glued to my window. The train was moving slowly and it just passed by these strange objects. There was nobody to talk to about what I just have seen, it was night and the train passengers were asleep.

I still remember these lights vividly and I haven't got a clue what it was Confused
