Are the ultimate, undisputed masters of feel good music? I always seem to turn to them if I need a bit of a boost and they never let me down! DS1 has just declared them to be 'cringey old man pop' and I'm wondering where I went wrong raising him Grin

The first single I bought on cassette tape was Where the streets have no name. I love I wouldn't Normally do this kind of Thing. Anyone remember the Spitting Image pastiche of Go West? Bloody hilarious,,, How the Hellll, might look for it on you tube.

bestbefore · 27/04/2020 20:56

Yes! Love them. Life long fan...have the long term fans for the Liza Minnelli album and the electronic one they worked on, both utterly ace.

I also saw them last sept at proms in the park, and have to wait another year for the greatest hits tour. Before that I dragged my son to see them at the royal opera house; fab.

My fav song is always on my mind but also love please and actually their latest songs are very good.

There's an old documentary on bbc sounds at the moment which sounds good

TheSandman · 27/04/2020 20:57

Floor fillers at every gay club I ever went to during the 80s. Very is one of my favourite albums of all time.

Millicent10 · 27/04/2020 20:57

Suburbia is my favourite, PSB are great.

I also like Squeeze, they give me a similar feeling (childhood memories, great pop songs, a bit of social commentary).

Hassled · 27/04/2020 21:00

I adore them, but it's not all feel good music. Being Boring is heart breaking - it's about losing friends to AIDS. And Jealousy - brilliant, but not feel good. I do think they're underrated.

beebeedandelion · 27/04/2020 21:07

I agree, but not exclusively. Big Country are up there with them, such a shame Stuart Adamson is no longer with us.

BumbleBeee69 · 27/04/2020 21:08

Tears for Fears and Madness for me...

class

BringMeTea · 27/04/2020 21:10

Love 'em. Properly good people. Also rescheduled to see them next year.

It's been on my bucket list, now cancelled. I can wait another year...

iklboo · 27/04/2020 21:10

I really like 'Love Is A Bourgeois Concept'. So clever.

BearSoFair · 27/04/2020 21:10

Ahh so nice to see someone else mention Se A Vida E, that's always my first choice and it always seems to be a bit forgotten

@Millicent10 In Suburbia is my favourite too!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/04/2020 21:23

PSB are hugely underrated imo - this thread has made me very happy! I can tell that OP is a Pethead because he/she referred to them as Pet Shop Boys without a "The" Wink

Was thrilled to hear one of the acts on Britain's Got Talent last Saturday dancing to a cover version of It's a Sin.

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2020 21:25

Yes, I am very confused by all this 'supporting Take That' nonsense. It's the other way around, surely. Confused

BearSoFair · 27/04/2020 21:36

MyCat Good spot, it does always feel a bit strange to not have 'the' though Grin

Does anyone else have a soft spot for the songs where Chris Lowe pops in with a surprise vocal? I have a DVD of the Performance tour somewhere where he has a little dance during We All Feel Better In The Dark, might have to dig that out for another watch!

I’m so sorry about your son, BearSoFair. Try not to blame yourself. All we can do is try to raise them properly and lead them to good music. If he doesn’t have good taste, you can only hope he wishes up as he gets older. Flowers

darceybusselllovesbrussells · 27/04/2020 21:39

They are wonderful. I finally saw them live about 12 years ago and they were amazing. I've also got tickets for the rescheduled gig, I don't want to wait for a year but there's no choice Sad
Too many good songs. Suburbia was always a favourite. West End Girls was ground breaking. I was listening to Introspective the other day. Just brilliant.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 27/04/2020 21:39

*wises, not wishes. Blush

darceybusselllovesbrussells · 27/04/2020 21:41

But I feel the need to say that I hated The Pop Kids!

Tana433 · 27/04/2020 21:44

I saw them in Newcastle last year and they were amazing. Go West and Domino Dancing are my favourites and i was thrilled that these were the encore songs. Well worth the wait.

Dieu · 27/04/2020 21:54

So Hard is my favourite song of theirs. Fab band!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/04/2020 21:57

bearsofair a Chris Lowe vocal is a treat indeed! I thought I was in heaven when I heard Lies and This Used to be the Future.

Feel free to PM me if you ever want to to talk about Pet Shop Boys without boring the tits off your nearest and dearest ... I could chat about them all day long Grin

Moonmelodies · 27/04/2020 21:58

Sorry OP, they were 'cringey old man pop' back in the 80's.
It was like punk never happened.

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2020 22:00

Punk was before my time. Thank goodness.

LEELULUMPKIN · 27/04/2020 22:03

We had tickets to see them in Hamburg a few years ago but due to a childcare emergency had to cancel at the last minute.

Waited for another chance and finally got tickets to see them in Cardiff on June 3rd but obviously that won't be happening now.

Beyond gutted.

DH has seen them 3 times but it would be a first for me, so I am hoping 3rd time lucky, whenever that will be!

Igavebirthtoabanana · 27/04/2020 22:06

Aaah, another 80's teen here who loves Pet Shop Boys. My favourite is Heart and It's a Sin. Such classics. I love Neil's voice.

I grew up in Finland and back in the day, we were tiny, unknown country (before the Scandi boom and Lapland tourism). I remember the excitement when the West End Girls had "Finland station" in it's lyrics Grin (you had to be there..)
