To think Wayfair is massively overpriced

I appreciate I'm not their target demographic but I find them so bloody expensive! I don't know how I ended up on the website but I found a children's climbing frame for £8.5k Shock

www.wayfair.co.uk/garden/pdp/freeport-park-raoul-climbing-frame-u001868666.html

It's yours for just £714.06 a month. That's more than my rent, council tax, gas, electric, water, car insurance, Netflix, phone, broadband and about half my grocery bill put together. It's ridiculously expensive, unless its some sort of Olympic grade climbing frame that plebs like me don't know about then I take it back.

Most of their stuff is really good value though, significantly cheaper than elsewhere. There's just the odd ridiculously priced thing

PumpkinP · 26/04/2020 18:18

Someone posted this climbing frame before, I don’t use wayfair personally it does seem really over priced

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 26/04/2020 18:18

They rename things sold more cheaply elsewhere, we bought a step2 sand and water table for £75 (ok it was on sale but RRP £99), they sold exactly the same one under the Freeport park name for £164.99

iklboo · 26/04/2020 18:19

EIGHT AND A HALF GRAND?!

cacaca · 26/04/2020 18:20

You found one thing rather expensive so brand the whole site overpriced. Bit ridiculous - but no, I don’t think the site is overly expensive in general.

Fedupandpoor · 26/04/2020 18:23

No, I thought is was expensive already. But to be fair, I'm not sure on the quality as I've never bought from there. It looks like an expensive Argos.

Wayfair is a shop front for drop shippers and doesn’t hold its own stock. The brand selling this frame seems to be reasonable for its other items, I wonder if this is a mistake?

Dinosaurfood · 26/04/2020 21:09

Yup it's massively overpriced I've worked in sales and the mark up is eye watering plus it's a load of shite anyway.

purplelila2 · 28/04/2020 23:16

A lot of people have mentioned their items being damaged from wayfair.

It's happened to me too

OneMomentInHistory · 28/04/2020 23:18

I've found some nice stuff on there and then managed to find the exact thing elsewhere considerably cheaper. It's just a shop front, done cleverly to have it's own reputation!

sparkypigeon · 28/04/2020 23:21

The link is taking it to a climbing frame for £144.99. OP have they amended the price or swapped the item?

Nonotmenori · 28/04/2020 23:24

I got a nice tv stand that once built wasn't all that as the shelf wouldn't hold up so it's currently just gathering dust now. I got a big beanbag last week for £52 which is expensive but it's comfortable. They didn't send me the colour I ordered, but it'll do.

It always takes a while to be delivered too. Don't think I'll bother ordering again.

Fedupandpoor · 29/04/2020 07:32

@sparkypigeon Ah, so it is! It must have been a mistake then. It was definitely more than that before!

I saw a hot tub on there for £23,000, sale price

www.wayfair.co.uk/garden/pdp/canadian-spa-co-st-lawrence-10-person-90-jet-spa-cspc1022.html

Winegumlover · 29/04/2020 07:38

It’s well made though. Never had any problems with them. Delivery always quick as well

HugeAckmansWife · 29/04/2020 07:41

I've had great stuff and service from them. Got some lovely curtains just last week for DSs room for £20.

pollysproggle · 29/04/2020 07:41

Yes there are some weirdly expensive things on there. I was looking at cots and some were £8k without much of a description as to why?
No indication it was a luxury brand or anything. There was also a paddling pool I saw advertised for £87.99 which is exactly the same as the one we bought last year for £35 from a different site.

ProfYaffle · 29/04/2020 07:42

I've order a handful of small/cheap items - every single one has been appalling quality and either arrived broken or broke on first use. I've had refunds for everything so far.

Would never order from them again.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 29/04/2020 07:43

That hot tub is ridiculously big, and is a swim spa and hot tub combined though. Not your average jacuzzi in a suburban semi detached back yard.

HarrietTheShy · 29/04/2020 07:45

Their customer service is fab. You get straight through to an actual human. My item (£50 value) was damaged and they sent a replacement next day and told me to keep the old one.

ifeellikeanidiot · 29/04/2020 07:45

I've bought a couple of things from there and loved them. Delivered quick, look great.

SabineSchmetterling · 29/04/2020 07:46

They delivered me an office chair next day at the start of lockdown when they were like gold dust and impossible to get hold of. It was reasonably priced and has saved my back. I really can’t complain about the quality of the item either. It’s what I expected for the price I paid. I’d say it’s a similar quality to what you’d get in Ikea at the same price point. The trick with wayfair is to put in your postcode and filter so you only look at items with fast delivery to your area. That way you don’t have to waste time trawling through stuff that would take ages to arrive.

BonnesVacances · 29/04/2020 07:48

I actually think some of their prices are wrong. Whether it's a misplaced decimal point or a problem with the exchange rate, I don't think these high prices in £1,000s are the true price.

Roselilly36 · 29/04/2020 07:49

I have ordered from them in the past, managed to buy things from there that I couldn’t source elsewhere. Delivery was quick too. They had an amazing choice of outdoor rugs, lots of different prices, sizes and designs. I also brought a L shaped shower mat, for the shower enclosure in the family bathroom, I couldn’t find an L shape mat anywhere else at the time.

chicken2015 · 29/04/2020 07:51

I have brought few things from there and loved them, my daughters nursery furniture was from there very good quality and vey reasonably priced
