I found that Bath thread fascinating, lots of people feeling strange/uneasy when visiting a certain place. What places give you a really good feel and good vibes?

North Berwick. The 1st time i visited I just felt at peace. Every visit since I've felt the same.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/04/2020 09:32

Croyde in North Devon feels like coming home.

Cologne and Dusseldorf have similar vibes. I think it's because I associate them all with happy times with DH.

Another one for the Isles of Scilly.
I should have been heading out there tomorrow.

awaynboilyurheid · 28/04/2020 09:51

Seattle (nearly moved there but call of home too strong)
Edinburgh
Lake Garda
Toronto

The Orkney Islands. I have been meaning to return for years. Been three times and I wish I had moved there when I was young... though not impossible I might still do so.

Valentia Island in south west Ireland and Caherdaniel nearby.

London

New York.

LorenzoStDubois · 28/04/2020 10:52

Paris.

New Forest

The cottage we go to is miles down a bumpy track and its patio opens out directly onto the Forest, very quiet and peaceful though a pub with food 10 minutes walk away

Kleine Knip beach in Curaçao: wonderful tropical sea. Love this place.

Thessaloniki in Greece: I love the mediterranean and this city is full of ancient historic sites, great good and just lovely.

Berlin: I love Germany and Berlin is such an epic place! I have been there many times and it never gets boring.

Kamakura, Japan: old samurai city. The temples are beautiful and the one that has an enormous statue of a Buddha has a lovely garden where you can sit on a bench, rest and feel just zen. That place is just so peaceful.

Corcovado island, Costa Rica: mother nature at her best, I saw so many wild animals there. Absolutely fantastic.

Cape Point, South Africa:
A very rough coast with spectacular views.
You really feel at the edge of the world there.

@girlwhowearsglasses I found it! It was Watersmeet near Lynmouth (miles from where I thought it was!) Seems it's still a NT property.
I now want to go to Chambercombe Manor though, I love that area.

Times Square in NYC. I normally hate crowds - to the point that I get panic attacks in them - but Times Square just fills me with joy.

BelindaBallsover · 28/04/2020 13:17

Aberffraw, Anglesey
Plas Newydd, Anglesey
Whitby
Robin Hood's Bay
Famara, Lanzarote
Edinburgh
Crete

Another one to agree with York.

I always felt drawn there when I was young, even though I lived in the West Country. I ended up living in Scarborough but would travel to York often.

Ginandplatonic · 28/04/2020 13:35

For me it’s London. Lived there for a few years 20-odd years ago then went back to Australia and every time I have visited since it has felt like coming home from the minute I’ve stepped off the plane. Before I’ve even left Heathrow! I can’t really explain it - I can see all its faults but they don’t matter, I love it anyway. It’s such a strong, enduring feeling.

francienolan · 28/04/2020 13:51

Edinburgh
Cannes
Seattle (esp the Fremont/Wallingford area)
Newport, Rhode Island
Kew Gardens

All of them just feel right to me. They're so different and I don't know what it is about those in particular. Where I live now is similar although it does have its problems. It's near one of the places mentioned upthread by pp but I don't want to say where.

LakieLady · 28/04/2020 14:01

Wells, Bridport and almost anywhere in Cornwall.

I swear something in the air changes as we cross the Tamar bridge into Cornwall.

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/04/2020 14:22

I've always loved the Suffolk coast... so much we moved there!

These days Staithes makes me feel very calm and 'at home'

Bakedpotatoandgin · 28/04/2020 14:25

The White Peak area in Derbyshire. I've never lived there, but DPs both grew up there and I've visited a fair amount. The hills around there just feel like home, whereas the fields where I've mostly actually lived feel flat and full of cows.
Also when I first visited my college at Oxford. I didn't know anything about it, hadn't read the prospectus or anything, but I went in on a whim and came out certain that this was where I wanted to spend the next few years. It still feels welcoming and home-like. Some parts are over 700 years old, and walking through them in the early morning or later in the evening you can almost imagine a time slip, but in a friendly, ongoing community spirit kind of way, not a creepy way.

littlepeas · 28/04/2020 14:39

Yosemite.

Whangamata in New Zealand - I actually sat on the beach crying because I wanted to live there and knew it was incredibly unlikely we’d ever be able to.

Anychance123 · 28/04/2020 14:43

Scarborough
Oban
Wentworth in South Yorkshire, it’s just so calming and beautiful

Burntmybiscuits · 28/04/2020 14:47

Salisbury. ❤️

AlphaJura · 28/04/2020 17:45

When I was a child I went to Dorchester and really liked it 🤷🏼‍♀️. I also like Brighton, only been there once but loved it.

We went to old Corfu town last year and I felt I'd been there before, even though I hadn't. It reminded me of some dreams I'd previously had.

BanKittenHeels · 28/04/2020 18:42

Norwich. I’ve only been there a few times but every time I go there I feel relaxed and know that something good is going to happen.

Cromer
Liverpool
Harlech
Hereford
Cork
Santiago
Brisbane (I don’t think I have ever felt more at ease that when I’ve been to Brisbane, so much so that we are looking to move there).
