I found that Bath thread fascinating, lots of people feeling strange/uneasy when visiting a certain place. What places give you a really good feel and good vibes?

San Francisco Bay, in one of the huge houses looking over towards Alcatraz-that would be quite nice now. Loved it there.

Nearer to home I love being in York or Chester, I just feel really at home whenever I go.

The Isle of Iona - the second I step off the little ferry the only way I can explain it is that I feel like I’m breathing properly.

I really hope to get back there for a visit in the next few years but it’s one heck of a journey.

Ludlow
Edinburgh
Northumberland coast
Dumfries and Galloway
North Coast of Northern Ireland
Grenada
Crete (NOT the capital though)
Iona
Scottish highlands

Northumbria has that vibe and York where I lived as a student - would return in a heartbeat

That is a beautiful way of describing that feeling. And I agree about Iona.

I see a few of you have suggested York? What is it like for kids there?

Oxford. Coniston Water in the Lake District.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 27/04/2020 07:40

There are a few cities I have been to and just thought, “I’m home.” They are, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Edinburgh.

All three cities just made me feel like I could relax and everything would be alright - like I belonged there. I could move to any of them in a heartbeat.

Rebelwithallthecause · 27/04/2020 07:45

I get the same feeling about Copenhagen

Nighting · 27/04/2020 07:51

The Isles of Scilly. The light is different. It's like the world is ...clean

AvalancheKit · 27/04/2020 07:52

The A303 from Weyhill through to Sparkford

Brilliant for a day out, loads to see, great parks, museums, river walks, cafes, Railway Museum (huge, free), Clifford’s Tower, lots of history, The Shambles (the inspiration for Diagon Alley), my country nice DC even love the park n ride!

borntobequiet · 27/04/2020 08:13

Another vote for St Davids and the Pembs Coast, since going there on a school field trip 50 or so years ago.
I return as frequently as I can.

CharDeeMacDennis · 27/04/2020 08:31

Edinburgh - moved there for university at 18 and.felt instantly at home, despite being a yokel from the sticks who'd never lived in even a village, never mind a city Grin

I still feel like it's "my" city even though I haven't lived there.now for 15 years.

On the other hand, whenever I've been to London I almost feel like I'm in a different country, it's a really weird feeling. Literally just feel like a stranger in a strange land there.

Where’s the Bath thread?

Saladaysior · 27/04/2020 08:46

Windsor, Bristol, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

mummmy2017 · 27/04/2020 09:33

I love exploring new towns alone.
The being able to wonder at will, without someone moaning.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/04/2020 09:40

Rievaulx abbey 😍 god the feeling I get there. Dalby forest is the same for me. Mystical, I just love it.
The Yorkshire dales. Ullswater. Goathland.

New York-every time I’ve been and get off the bus from the airport I just feel at home, it’s the strangest feeling. Even though it’s hectic I have this weird, inner calm. Always say to my husband I’ve had a past life there!

vampirethriller · 27/04/2020 12:41

London and St Ives, Cornwall

Rebelwithallthecause · 27/04/2020 15:16

It’s funny how many of these places crossover with the hebe-jeebees thread

hammeringinmyhead · 27/04/2020 15:41

Bruges!
