I found that Bath thread fascinating, lots of people feeling strange/uneasy when visiting a certain place. What places give you a really good feel and good vibes?

Cotele in Devon I think. It's beautiful.

Another one for Dorset too, I love the area around Corfe Castle and Worth Matravers.

There's a village in Norfolk which is just home when we visit. We go there a lot so I think it's more that it feels like home after so many years, rather than it felt like home so we kept coming back iyswim.

I also think the weather helps, visiting on a beautiful warm day works wonders on the homely feel!

Trebarwith Strand
St Ives

And my favourite, Aldeburgh in Suffolk

GingerRodgers18 · 27/04/2020 16:45

St Andrews in Scotland
Borough Bridge in North Yorks
Ripley North Yorks
Anywhere in the Cotswolds
Liverpool
Tentsmuir, Fife, Scotland
Pollensa Old town
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

I will probably weep with joy when we finally go back to the last three places after all this.

Definitely Bath, amazing at Christmas as well for Christmas shopping and a spot of dinner at the Circus restaurant

Don't think anywhere has given me the hebe jebees as such but there's places I wouldn't go back to.

Lost gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. Probably because it was a really calm and sunny day and we just had a wonderful day exploring. We were one of the last families to leave.

For me it is never a specific town or city, it is when I am in nature, more specifically in the woods. Whatever the weather, walking through the woods seems to give me a feeling I never have elsewhere. Of being uplifted. I am not religious but for me that is the closest feeling I imagine to a spiritual experience.

Bath! It is beautiful, love the light coloured cream buildings, the history, the warm climate and the lovely parks. It's lovely during lockdown, the botanical gardens and parade gardens have re-opened and the tourists and hen parties are no longer.

Orange do you know how busy they are? My daughter could walk to there from where she lives, but has 2 children, so it can't be too busy.

The Pembrokeshire coast between Solva and Goodwick. I grew up there and wish I hadn't left.

Saas-Fee in the summer (I'm not a skier).

Knittingaddict I have just returned from a walk to the botanical gardens and maybe saw 3 people...so very quiet, have not been to the parade gardens though. I'm delighted they have re-opened. It was slightly busier at the weekend, but still quiet.

RusholmeRuffian · 27/04/2020 17:39

Monument Valley. I could happily sit there and stare all day every day.

Thanks so much Orange. We live on the outskirts of town, so haven't been in to the centre since lock down, but my daughter is much closer and it will give her somewhere different to go.

Northumbria, Barnard Castle, Richmond (Yorkshire not Surrey), Hawes, Peveril Castle, Southsea, Shanklin Chine, Donnington Castle, Kenilworth.

Another vote for St Ives. I feel happy and relaxed as soon as I see it on the journey there, and walking on the beaches in the evenings in the summer I just love the sheer beauty of it.

That's good knitting addict, the centre is lovely atm, Victoria park in general very quiet apart from some people with tennis rackets or e.g. family with a badminton net, the botanicals it good for young children I agree. Flowers

katscamel · 27/04/2020 19:28

Another vote for Whitstable though never appreciated it when I was growing up a few miles down the road.
Out of the UK... it has to be Istanbul ... always feel as if I'm coming home (though only lived there for 2 years back in 2000), the other place is Khiva in Uzbekistan, it has a very ... mystical feeling that I can't really describe especially early morning and at sunset.

DieSchottin93 · 27/04/2020 19:40

Edinburgh. I remember when I went to a uni open day at one of the unis there (where I then went on to study) I just felt really at home, like I'd been there forever. I had the best 3 years there and I really miss it. I also had a similar feeling in Leipzig and if the opportunity arose I'd love back there too.

The Holy island of Lindisfarne ,off the Northumberland coast. If you can stay overnight the whole place changes. Its a tidal island, and when the tide comes in and the toursts leave there are only about 200 people on the whole island. No traffic. No light or noise pollution. A tiny, beautiful stone village surrounded by miles of unspoiled beaches, nature reserves and ancient historical ruins. The light is unreal and i just cannot put into words the utter peace you feel being there. Its no wonder theres a Buddist reserve there- you feel like you are totally at one with nature and switched off from the modern world.

Chillicheese123 · 27/04/2020 20:09

West coast of Scotland around Oban. I’m half Scottish but parent another part, but I feel like maybe in a past life I was a farm hand there or something 😂

Even though I LOVE the seaside, the places that give me that at home feel are not on the coast.

Winchester

and Cucuron in Provence

so different from each other - but I love them both
