Spotted in a magazine. What fresh hell is this?! AIBU to think you’re a selfish entitled shit if you erect an outdoor cinema screen in your garden?!

Hmm, I might buy one of these. Thanks OP!

(disclaimer we live a long way from the nearest house)

PurpleFlower1983 · 26/04/2020 08:59

Next door do, it doesn’t disturb us at all.

Weebitawks · 26/04/2020 09:00

Surely it just depends where you live ?

Fluffybutter · 26/04/2020 09:02

I don’t really get why ,though ?
Why do you want to watch a film outside , what does it offer ? The novelty ?

SerenDippitty · 26/04/2020 09:02

I’ll tell you what really gets me going - patio heaters. What an absurd invention. Either it’s warm enough to sit outside or it isn’t. If you are a bit chilly put a jumper or a cardi on. Much better for the environment.

NewYearNewTwatName · 26/04/2020 09:04

aghh. sorry Suite Francaisce isn't a true story! in the credits it seem to allude to it, especially talking about a piece of music published and the daughter saying how lovely that her mums life had been published.....

now I'm just confused Confused

NewYearNewTwatName · 26/04/2020 09:05

wrong thread Grin

MarginalGain · 26/04/2020 09:06

Did I dream that they had been banned?

SerenDippitty · 26/04/2020 09:10

They haven’t - saw some at Tesco last time I was there.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/04/2020 09:11

Did I dream that they had been banned?

If not they ought to be.

Mittens030869 · 26/04/2020 09:19

*Blimey, you’re neighbours haven’t even done it and you’re fuming. What a way to live.

Personally as long as the volume was managed appropriately I couldn’t give a shit other than hoping they had fun.*

I agree with this. I'd watch from my garden if it was a film I liked.

If you really don't like people enjoying their gardens in this way, look on the bright side, the fine weather won't last as this is the UK. Sooner or later, there will be rain.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 26/04/2020 09:21

For all the people saying ‘they’d have headphones on’, the chances are a lot wouldn’t - particularly those who already think it’s ok to blast music out at full volume whenever they feel like it. If this becomes a thing, lots of people are going to be disturbed by neighbours watching loud movies outside, including late into the night on warm summer evenings. YANBU.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/04/2020 09:25

I don’t see it as any different from a party- if you prewarn your neighbours that you will be watching a film in your garden at a reasonable hour what’s the issue, as long as it’s not a nightly occurrence .

megletthesecond · 26/04/2020 09:25

yy seren i judge patio heaters and plastic grass hard. i also judge people who don't hang out their laundry well.
Occasional music and sensible films don't bother me a jot.
Today I will go out there and my Nepalese neighbours will be burning their morning incense, it wafts over for a few minutes Smile.

Mittens030869 · 26/04/2020 09:26

Seriously, though, this sort of thing is obviously happening because of the lockdown and the fine weather. I think we should try to cut each other some slack, as our entertainment has to happen at home.

SerenDippitty · 26/04/2020 09:31

The sound of a late night gathering in a garden on a hot summer night can carry a long way when people have their windows open.

HairyFloppins · 26/04/2020 09:32

It's going to rain here for the next week or so and I'm quite glad. I usually love warm weather but my neighbours these past few weeks have ruined every bit of enjoyment I have from my garden from their constant noise.

rosegoldwatcher · 26/04/2020 09:40

OOOH I wish that I had an outdoor screen! (Would need to have the remote house and acres of garden first though.)
I did once spend a very enjoyable evening, in my garden, watching The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, on a laptop, with headphones (and wine.)

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 26/04/2020 09:57

There have been magazine articles for a few years about these outdoor cinemas

Ive two friends who’ve had one for years

We don’t play music in the garden either but I wouldn’t yell at dd for playing music out there with her headphones on

NOTANUM · 26/04/2020 10:26

We had a weekend glamping ruined by the next door tent erecting a huge TV screen outside every night and watching films at a high volume until 11pm. We were invited to join them but didn't want to - we wanted to up be up early and out, not drinking late. The kids - then young - couldn't sleep from the noise and got grumpy.
It ruined the whole weekend and I won't go glamping again.

It is selfishness of the highest order if you ask me. I don't like neighbours blaring music either other than at rare parties and am fortunate my neighbours are very considerate.

maddening · 26/04/2020 10:39

Let's face it, the kind of person erecting an outdoor cinema is not doing this by themselves and they and their family and/or guests are not going to be sat there in headphones.

Any one who does this in a built up area more than a couple of times a year and in any event later than 10:30/11 pm or for a large portion of the day eg for more than a film, is inconsiderate Imo.

Just like parties etc, once in a while fair enough, but more regularly and you are a nuisance.

As ive already stated, we will have headphones, if that doesn’t work then we won’t be doing it

Ive no idea what you mean by ‘is not doing this by themselves’

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/04/2020 10:43

Just like parties etc, once in a while fair enough, but more regularly and you are a nuisance.

The thing is though, when someone buys and installs an outside TV they will want a return on their investment and will use it more than just occasionally.

I think it's very selfish and irresponsible and it will lead to many disputes.

maddening · 26/04/2020 10:43

And the argument of "it won't last forever it will rain" is naff - so they ruin everyone else's enjoyment of their own gardens while it is sunny but that's OK because soon no one will enjoy their gardens because it will rain?

maddening · 26/04/2020 10:44

Exactly chardonnay.
