Spotted in a magazine. What fresh hell is this?! AIBU to think you’re a selfish entitled shit if you erect an outdoor cinema screen in your garden?!

YABU. As long as you're not disturbing neighbours then what's the harm?

Naithnira · 25/04/2020 22:01

It is disturbing the neighbours. That’s the whole point.

Letsdrinkgin · 25/04/2020 22:02

No harm in it and wish I could do it

daisypond · 25/04/2020 22:02

It’s fine, as long as you have headphones.

Letsdrinkgin · 25/04/2020 22:03

How do you know it’s disturbing the neighbours?

geekone · 25/04/2020 22:04

How can you assume from an advert that it disturbs the neighbors. Don’t live near people of you don’t like noise. There are noise laws which cover certain times of the day, if it is after that then fair enough, if not then go in your house if your don’t want to listen to it. What makes your science any more important than your neighbors entertainment.

Wingingitsince2018 · 25/04/2020 22:05

We did this for my birthday last year, bloody loved it.

You may be horrified to know it was after having a BBQ

mum11970 · 25/04/2020 22:06

Not everyone has neighbours nearby.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 25/04/2020 22:07

Not everyone lives close to their neighbours.

Lots of people have headphones.

Some people invite their neighbours round for social activities in their garden.

Have you actually turned to page 114 and read it? That’s probably the more relevant page to post here.

SunshineOutdoors · 25/04/2020 22:07

I think this looks like a lovely thing to do with dcs tbh. Not every night, but maybe a weekend treat. Would feel like more of an experience than just watching a film inside. I know it’s difficult at the moment but I think we do need to cut a bit of slack to neighbours in the garden at the moment, and I say that as someone who lives in a terraced street with v small back yards very close to each other (think coronation street style)

OllyBJolly · 25/04/2020 22:11

My Canadian relatives have their gardens set up for home movies (and sports). It's fabulous.

iwishiwasonhol · 25/04/2020 22:15

fine if you have no neighbours or all wear headphones ,having spent six hours listening to my next door neighbours 80s playlist this afternoon

NewPapaGuinea · 25/04/2020 22:16

What’s the problem?

OneMomentInHistory · 25/04/2020 22:16

Lots of people have been doing this recently (according to my Facebook feed anyway). Fun occasionally but I agree somewhat obnoxious if you have close neighbours and are out there a lot.

bellinisurge · 25/04/2020 22:17

How is it a problem for you if they have headphones?

cz123 · 25/04/2020 22:20

You sound miserable! Hop you are not my neighbour!

SorryImNotCreative · 25/04/2020 22:20

Mumsnet is a funny old place. Thread upon thread the last few weeks about inconsiderate neighbours, music being played in gardens and noisy kids.

Yet when a poster suggests that watching a fucking movie in your garden might be unreasonable suddenly we’re a nation of people who live nowhere near our neighbours and/or have the ability to have an entire family sat there with headphones on Hmm

I agree OP, it’s a fucking ridiculous idea. Because we all know that lots of people would be inconsiderate enough to have the volume turned up full blast, and the vast majority of us live in close proximity to at least 10 other houses.

PleasantVille · 25/04/2020 22:20

There's no one answer, if it's annoying for the neighbours then you probably should think twice, if it affects no one else then what's the problem.

How is it different to anything someone might do in their garden?

BunnytheHoneyBee · 25/04/2020 22:23

Even if no headphones I don’t see how it’s much different to having music on outside which a lot of people are doing at the moment

Naithnira · 25/04/2020 22:29

Having music on outside is equally unreasonable.

I opened this thread to check if it was about us 😱

DC went to bed just after 9pm as they were watching a movie outside, they’re usually in bed by 7.30pm. They had blankets and popcorn and were so excited.

YABU if it’s a one off.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 25/04/2020 22:30

@SorryImNotCreative

It’s weird, isn’t it? It’s as if Mumsnet is made up of thousands of different people who all have different views and opinions on things...

Leaannb · 25/04/2020 22:32

Its a lot of fun and you should really try it. We are watching the new Bad Boys movie tonight while roasting hot dogs and smores over a fire

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/04/2020 22:33

I think it’s nice- I wouldn’t do it every wkend but one night if over by 10.30pm/11pm I see zero issue.

Naithnira · 25/04/2020 22:35

Thank fuck none of you are my neighbours. The last thing I want is lights flashing over the fence and noise till god knows what time. It’s bad enough when next door has the telly on with the window open!
