Spotted in a magazine. What fresh hell is this?! AIBU to think you’re a selfish entitled shit if you erect an outdoor cinema screen in your garden?!

OP would you allow your neighbours to throw a party- let’s say a 40th birthday party on a Saturday night if they warned you?

bridgetreilly · 25/04/2020 22:37

It's not a new thing. Diarmuid Gavin was putting outdoor cinemas in every garden on TV in the 1990s. I think it's fine, tbh, so long as you use headphones or are miles from the neighbours.

skyblu · 25/04/2020 22:38

You seem a delight!

megletthesecond · 25/04/2020 22:38

Yabu.
My neighbours do this for kids films in the evening. I can hear bits of it if I go outside, it doesn't bother me.

SorryImNotCreative · 25/04/2020 22:39

ItsGoingTibiaK REALLY?! That’s news to me.

Boulshired · 25/04/2020 22:40

In my street the majority have bifold doors and oversized TVs with surround sound so I do not think it would make much difference as they are basically watching tv in their gardens already.

Samtsirch · 25/04/2020 22:40

I think that’s lovely, wish I could afford to do it!
Is it annoying « the neighbours « or just you ?

SorryImNotCreative · 25/04/2020 22:41

I find it odd that most MN users clutch their pearls at the mere tinkling of background music, but their neighbours can watch Die Hard in the back garden and that’s absolutely fine.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 25/04/2020 22:43

Next door have done this a couple of times over the past few weeks. I think it's fantastic and rather jealous we don't have the equipment...or children who sleep long enough to make it happen 😂

Praiseyou · 25/04/2020 22:44

Some people don't have neighbours.

Chillicheese123 · 25/04/2020 22:44

Not everyone lives in suburbia

Josette77 · 25/04/2020 22:45

I do this. It's fabulous.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 25/04/2020 22:45

This is really inconsiderate.

onanothertrain · 25/04/2020 22:47

I wouldn't have an issue with it but then MN is weird about noise from neighbours, unless it's from kids playing of course

malmi · 25/04/2020 22:49

It's not inherently inherently ridiculous or inconsiderate. It's all down to the specifics of the execution.

Rosiejim · 25/04/2020 22:50

Well it’s a lose - lose situation for you anyway OP. Seems you’ve already decided to be absolutely livid about this issue whether your neighbours watch films in the garden or not

daisypond · 25/04/2020 22:52

but their neighbours can watch Die Hard in the back garden and that’s absolutely fine.
As long as they have headphones on, I can’t see what the problem could be.

HeddaGarbled · 25/04/2020 22:56

Don’t live near people of you don’t like noise

Like we have a choice 🤷‍♀️

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/04/2020 23:00

This is exactly what we are putting in our garden

Just researching the finer details

And yes we will be having headphones...some of these machines can have up to 10

PumpkinP · 25/04/2020 23:00

Im on a fb page and lots of them are doing this , they definitely have neighbours as you can see the houses in the background of the pics. I wouldn't do it personally but then I live in a gf maisonette

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 25/04/2020 23:00

We’ve done it a few times. Watched a nice movie while toasting some marshmallow for our hot chocolates . It’s fun, DC really enjoyed it.

transformandriseup · 25/04/2020 23:04

Exactly

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/04/2020 23:04

Thank fuck none of you are my neighbours

Well

Aren’t you a charmer

Where we are putting ours won’t have flashing lights going over a fence or noise

So...and i do appreciate how very lucky i am that you are not my neighbours....nobody will be seeing or hearing it except for us

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/04/2020 23:06

It's not inherently inherently ridiculous or inconsiderate. It's all down to the specifics of the execution

Yep

And if I can’t get headphones then its not happening

Stingeray · 25/04/2020 23:07

I live in a detached house with a decent sized garden. In no way would the neighbours even notice the light or sound of us watching a film outside. Still selfish!?
