Has anyone received a refund yet? I don't want a bloody voucher I want the money back that I requested 3 weeks ago 😡

No
They aren't giving refunds at the moment Hmm it's a bloody pain in the arse but seemingly they don't have the money (or don't want to pay) to refund now. I'm planning to try again when flights start moving again

MyBlueMoonbeam · 24/04/2020 22:39

Apparently it's illegal not to give a refund but since when has that stopped Mr O'Leary 🤨

MorganKitten · 24/04/2020 22:41

You have to go in the chat queue to get the refund.

ItsAllForYou · 24/04/2020 22:41

No, I received vouchers Sadwould have preferred a cash refund but will probably use vouchers but just worried as we don't know when we are going to be able to go on holiday and the vouchers are only
Valid for a year.

ItsAllForYou · 24/04/2020 22:42

@MorganKitten it says on the email you can request a cash refund but it will go in a queue when covid-19 has finished

MyBlueMoonbeam · 24/04/2020 22:42

The chat queue is never ending

I think all the airlines are playing for time. My Tui flights were cancelled, I have been contacted by email to say I will receive a credit voucher. I think they are trying to put pressure on the Govt to make it legal for customers to have to accept a voucher.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 24/04/2020 22:46

I’m waiting from March 27th. I rang two weeks ago and have had two emails since saying it’s still on going and be patient.

My travel insurance said to go through my credit card first, cc put a hold on interest being charged but want print outs of proof of me trying to get a refund, all I had was screenshots of the hours I was on the online chat in a queue.

I was told on the phone 28 working days so I’m hanging on a bit longer then I’ll probably have to escalate it.

I wish they’d have just offered refunds immediately so their seats could’ve been freed up for people who needed them. In our case our flights to Spain went ahead but the return was cancelled, it’s a same as our two seats going out were empty and could’ve been used by people going back home to Spain 🤯🔫

SanFranBear · 24/04/2020 22:48

MyBlueMoonBeam - same as you, me and a friend requested a refund for our flight which was due to leave a month ago. Got the crappy voucher email today and have responded to say, uhm no - we would like our money.

I read an article that explained that even if RyanAir had to refund every seat of every flight, they would still have significant cash reserves, so its not a case of them nor having the money... they're just being fuckers. I'll see if I can find it..

Livelovebehappy · 24/04/2020 22:51

I put my request in for a refund two weeks ago via their site. It did say to wait 20 working days to get the cash back to my account. I would no way accept a voucher - some airlines are going to go under after all this, and the voucher you receive won’t be worth the paper it’s written on if the airline no longer exists.

Aveisenim · 24/04/2020 22:52

No refund with Aer Lingus either.

SanFranBear · 24/04/2020 22:52

Here's the article... and even though it's a bit old now, from quick Google I dont think anything has significantly changed.

simpleflying.com/eu-airline-ticket-refunds/

Covers other airlines as well so you can see what the likelihood of getting a refund might be. I also have a refund outstanding with Norwegian Air but I've given that one up as a lost cause Sad

MyBlueMoonbeam · 24/04/2020 22:52

@SanFranBear

Fuckers is 100% right

Lellochip · 24/04/2020 22:54

I'm in the same situation with Norwegian Air, they've annoyed me with their refusal to give any information on my claim whatsoever. It's been over a month and they've not even looked at it, let alone given any idea of timescales, or if they'll even refund it at all. So I'm trying to go with a card chargeback, I don't trust that the airline isn't just stalling until they go bust to be honest.

Swiftier · 24/04/2020 22:56

Every airline and travel company is doing this at the moment, not just Ryanair. They want to keep the money and secure bookings for when everyone can travel again.

youwouldthink · 24/04/2020 22:57

I got a voucher through Wednesday after requesting a refund. Took about an hour on chat to get someone. She has put through for a refund but says no idea when we'll get it. Made sure she emailed me a transcript of the conversation so I have proof

flowerstar19 · 24/04/2020 23:00

Jet2 refunded me straight away - no quibble at all so it's not all airlines! Ryanair however I got the dreaded vouchers, weeks after requesting a cash refund and being promised it in writing - they are in breach of EU regs I believe so I have taken it up with my C/C company. Hoping they can recoup the money!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 24/04/2020 23:02

Yes.I booked with on the beach and had my Ryan air flight refunded

LaChatte · 24/04/2020 23:02

I've not been able to get through on the chat thing. Had the page open literally all day on Wednesday, not a peep.

YappityYapYap · 24/04/2020 23:04

If you don't use your credit note (that part is important, it's a credit note, not a voucher, has different rights attached to it) within 12 months then you can request a cash refund from what I've read. We have flights booked with Ryanair in August. It's doubtful we'll get to go now so we'll take the credit note and book for next July/August.

The worry of them going bust is real. However, the more people that take credit notes, the less likely they are to go bust. If you need the money, push for a refund. If you're happy to book within the next 12 months for another flight or wait 12 months for a cash refund if you don't use the credit note, take the credit note

newyearnoeu · 24/04/2020 23:04

what's annoying is the greediness of the airlines - of course if you offer people a cash refund now or a time limited voucher for some point in the future they will take the refund. why is that such a surprise to them? Even if they'd offered cash refund of the exact amount paid or voucher for amount paid plus 10%-20% more people might have gone for the voucher. But they will literally do anything to avoid paying.

I'd prefer it if they'd just said a flat out no to the refund - at least then I could claim through my travel insurance or credit card. but at the moment I can't because ryanair haven't technically said no to the refund - just that they will pay it when covid is over, which is so vague as to be laughable!

and the cheekiness of asking people to choose between cash or voucher, then making them wait nearly a month, then giving them the option they didn't choose is just laughable!

Nottobesoldseparately · 24/04/2020 23:07

Our flight was booked by friends.
We can't claim on our insurance, as we didn't book it.
They can't claim on our behalf as obviously their insurance is only for them.
Can't go through credit card as it was booked on a normal card.
Ryanair won't speak to us as we didn't book the flights or the rearranged flights to get home.
No cash until covid19 is over which could take years.
We are £1300 out of pocket and neither of us have a job anymore!

MorganKitten · 24/04/2020 23:16

@ItsAllForYou I’m aware as I’ve done this

Fairyliz · 24/04/2020 23:23

We are having the same problem with jet2. They cancelled our flights then sent an email saying don’t contact them they will contact us to help us rebook. I don’t want to rebook I want my money back but you can’t get through on the lines.
