Dream on sista Sad

Grilledaubergines · 25/04/2020 00:26

Had the Ryanair email which gave the link to request a refund and refund has been requested but it’ll take an age to come through.

WaltzForDebbie · 25/04/2020 00:29

Complain through resolver. That usually sorts things out pretty quickly.

Soontobe60 · 25/04/2020 00:36

This was on Martin Lewis last night. Check out his website for the latest.
What you need to think is that if the airlines have to pay out everyone immenpdiately they are at much greater risk of going bust, and you'll not get any money back not will your vouchers be worth anything.
If you can afford to wait for your money, then try to be patient. After all, it's not like you need it to book another flight this week! (And I know that for some people who've got a drop in income that money will come in very handy now).

Howdidido · 25/04/2020 00:45

Had same problem with BA. They say you can only get a refund on the phone. But you cant get through to a person no matter what option you pick..

ilovesooty · 25/04/2020 01:26

I have flights booked in June, July and August with Ryanair. Not looking forward to the fight to get my money back.

Lellochip · 25/04/2020 12:13

Nottobesoldseparately You can request a chargeback on a debit card too. It doesn't have the same legal protection as buying on credit cards but something to look into

LaChatte · 01/05/2020 09:55

I finally managed to get through to a Customer care agent, it was quite difficult to actually get my request for a refund through, they kept saying they were issuing vouchers as a refund, I really had to insist that this was the equivalent of me losing my money. I've been told that my request for a refund has been put in through. So still not there yet, especially as they're getting closer to obtaining the modification of the current EU laws on this.

YeahWhatevver · 01/05/2020 09:58

Michael O'Leary was on the BBC news this morning saying they usually process 10,000 refunds a month. They've managed to up that to 10,000 a week but they've got 25,000,000 refunds in the queue.

He gave assurances that everyone wanting a refund would get one but it may take upto 6 months.

AuntieMarys · 01/05/2020 10:00

Jet2 phoned me this week...I said I wanted a refund...it was back on my credit card in 36 hours. Really impressed.

Everanewbie · 01/05/2020 10:12

I'm in a similar position with EJ. Requested a refund and had an email predicting that i'll have money back within 28 days, but don't bother chasing within 90 days, so basically 3 months is normal. I can have a voucher now but I organised a trip for friends so need to distribute their money back.

Its awkward all round OP, they have a huge backlog to process and will have lost a huge amount of money as a result of the situation, to the point where they announced 3000 job losses this morning, with more on the horizon and the likelihood of closing their operation in several regional airports.

You deserve your money back, but Ryanair have some pretty large challenges, and I'd prefer there to be some budget airlines still around when Corona finally buggers off.

Unfortunately OP, unless you can accept vouchers you'll just have to be patient.

Southwest12 · 01/05/2020 10:27

I'd booked with BA and managed to get through on the phone on the 7th attempt, they don't let you queue just cut you off. Full refund given no questions asked, and even though they said it might take a month the money was back on my credit card within 24 hours. I did wait until they cancelled the flight, which wasn't due to be until the end of May, so they cancelled it about 5 weeks beforehand.

Lala241280 · 01/05/2020 10:27

Totally sympathise with everyone waiting on an email but is everyone aware staff are furloughed in the call centres so things will take longer than normal , they aren’t saying you won’t get a refund just it will take longer.
Companies who normally get 3000 emails in a week are getting 10,000 how on earth are they expected to get through them with less staff
Spare a thought for the 12000 BA staff getting made redundant and the 3000 Ryanair staff
BA also don’t think they will fly from Gatwick anymore
This is massive , we should all be trying to work together

Whataloadofshite · 01/05/2020 10:28

I flew with Ryanair a couple of times and then decided never to use them again. Stuff like this is why. They will shaft you every chance they get.

KonTikki · 01/05/2020 10:34

My cancelled ticket with Ryanair to Alicante cost £18.99p
I'm not bothering to claim a refund - lifestyle too short !

LaChatte · 01/05/2020 10:45

I wouldn't be asking for a refund for a £20 flight either! I'm trying to get €300 back.

Livelovebehappy · 01/05/2020 11:09

Was given the vouchers after being offered cash when they cancelled, and tried getting through on their online chat earlier this week, but on hold for over an hour so I gave up. Went on chat on the off chance this morning, and got through within 5 minutes! Although still tried to get me to accept vouchers, they have put me now in the cash refund system. I’m a bit torn, because I do appreciate airlines are going to be massively affected in the aftermath of this virus, but worry that if I accept vouchers and the airline goes under, would the vouchers be worthless?

CodenameVillanelle · 01/05/2020 11:46

Ryanair have £220 of my money. I do want it back. I can wait a few months as long as I get it.

MissCharleyP · 01/05/2020 12:29

We are waiting for TUI to refund us. We can’t rebook as my holidays for next year aren’t at the same time and are in school holidays. We don’t have kids and I don’t want to go away in school holidays. I believe that if holidays are more expensive at a different time then companies are expecting you to pay the difference. I can swap holidays with a colleague, assuming I can find someone to swap with but I can’t request a swap until much later in the year. I’m hoping our CC will refund us but I have heard that some are refusing 🙁. It’s a whole holiday we booked, not just flights so it’s about £2.5k which we cannot afford to write off. We spent it in good faith that we were going on a holiday as we could afford to pay it but we can’t afford to pay it and get nothing (holiday or refund) in return, a credit note is no use to us in our particular circumstances.

Lala241280 · 01/05/2020 12:36

@misscharleyp

If you go on to TUI Facebook page it explains their refund process for you
Hope this helps

MissCharleyP · 01/05/2020 12:47

Thank you Lala I do tend to over worry! It’s on DHs card and he’s a lot more relaxed about it. I’d be perfectly willing to book for next year but we’ll have to wait and see if I can swap holidays so I’d rather have the money back and try again next year!

LaChatte · 12/06/2020 17:16

I have just had a full refund for our cancelled flights in March (it took a lot of effort to refuse the vouchers but I got there in the end).

Charlottejade89 · 12/06/2020 17:24

We are trying to get a refund from Ryanair also. I think we will probably take the voucher tbh as we know we need to rebook flights for next year but its besides the point. it's almost £300 that we could do with now. On a positive had absolutely no issue with British Airways getting a refund for our holiday. They co tacyedbus about a week or 2 after it was cancelled and said she to the high volumes of calls there are receiving g they will be automatically issuing refunds. Money was in the bank 5 days later

ilovesooty · 12/06/2020 17:28

I'm losing the will to live and might end up accepting the voucher and using it for next year's flights. Time is money as far as I'm concerned and I don't think I can afford to waste any more time on it providing I can have a refund on anything unused in due course.

SockYarn · 12/06/2020 17:36

I'm not a RyanAir fan by any stretch of the imagination. But they are dealing with a mahoosive number of refunds. All their flights are cancelled, there must be millions of people waiting for a refund. They can't cop with the volume.

We cancelled a holiday on 1st April and are still waiting for a refund. The operator has changed terms to 120 days. Not great but what's the alternative but to be patient.
