If you have a cough, as innocuous as you might think it is! Why are you out? Just walked on my daily walk for about half an hour. 3 people walking past in safe distance all coughing 🤨 what the hell is wrong with people 😞

OP posts:

I suffer with hay fever and chronic rhinitis - both conditions make me cough. Am I supposed to stay in forever?

GrimmsFairytales · 24/04/2020 21:50

@StrawberryJam200

I'm sure it originally said you could still go out for exercise in the first 7 days! I've noticed before they add to or amend the NHS Covid advice but don't publicise it, which I think is a shame.

It's definitely changed, the advice used to be you could exercise with symptoms.

Even if your cough is caused by something other than Covid, you could still have it unknowingly and the cough could spread it to others. I say stay at home if you are likely to be coughing or sneezing near people, whatever you think is the cause.

MigginsMs · 24/04/2020 21:50

I’ve had a cough since Christmas. The guidance is a “new continuous cough”. Fucked if I’m staying in to suit you

SquirtleSquad · 24/04/2020 21:51

OP maybe you should stay in

kitk · 24/04/2020 21:51

I've had a hay fever cough for a month, like every April, I feel like I do every April- I'm v Covid risk averse but I'm not staying in for a cough I have every year?

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 21:52

I’m all for personal responsibility....

But starting to wonder if the government need to be held accountable for creating hysteria

There’s going to be trouble all over workplaces with “she coughed” reports unless you’re in a job where you get lots of sick pay and just say “yes, I did, I must rush home now.”.

Imapotato · 24/04/2020 21:52

It’s hay fever season. I have slightly itchy eyes and nose, sneezing occasionally and I am more phlegmy than usual. I cough occasionally to clear my throat. It’s not a continuous cough.

I work in a hospital, so have to be careful. I’ve been in touch with our dedicated Coronavirus line and they have told me I am quite safe to be out and about and at work as my symptoms do not sound like Coronavirus.

So shall I stay in all the time in case the occasional clearing of my throat makes you nervous. I think not.

Quartz2208 · 24/04/2020 21:52

I had (untested but diagnosed over phone) CV at the start of lockdown alongside my family. The cough is distinctive and more croup like

Currently I have a cough due to hayfever. I know its hayfever it comes alongside the other hayfever like symptoms I always have. And not alongside the CV symptoms (fever/aches/loss of taste and smell) I had earlier

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 21:53

“ I say stay at home if you are likely to be coughing or sneezing near people, whatever you think is the cause.”

You want EVERYONE with hayfever, or asthma, etc to stay home till....when?

merrytombombadil · 24/04/2020 21:54

I was out running yesterday and a fly flew into my mouth, getting it out made me choke & cough quite a lot. I was well away from anyone else, but it would have looked like I had a terrible cough.

Therollockingrogue · 24/04/2020 21:54

Well so if you go to the shops..
And a guy near you has a huge continuous dry coughing fit
And then he says “oh don’t worry it’s just a smokers cough”
You’d all be cool and chill?
Because I’d be seriously fucked off, I’m sorry 😐

ravensoaponarope · 24/04/2020 21:54

@TabbyMumz Grin

Kortnee · 24/04/2020 21:54

I inhaled a gnat whilst out on my government sanctioned exercise. It made me cough. How long should I remain in my home in case it happens again?

Rhianna1980 · 24/04/2020 21:55

YANBU.
A good example is a good article I read about for a private danish school who has just reopened its doors to kids. One of the criteria/protocols they are following (amongst others) is sending any child back home with any symptoms for at least 48hrs - including coughing- the article did say it is going to be hard for children and families who have allergies/asthma especially now in the pollen season.
A cough is a cough, and every time you cough, you are spreading whatever germs you are carry corona or non corona. Seems sensible.

MissHoskins · 24/04/2020 21:57

This Government has done many things but I very much doubt that they're responsible for all the ridiculous posts I've seen here and on other social media.
How about holding neurotic idiots accountable?

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 21:57

Kortnee “ I inhaled a gnat whilst out on my government sanctioned exercise”

I feel for you. When I was a child, i inhaled a firefly and kept looking for a light in my tummy 😂

Whitney101 · 24/04/2020 21:58

What if I’m coughing because I want to cheat on a TV quiz show?

Therollockingrogue · 24/04/2020 22:00

Are people neurotic idiots though because they don’t want to be coughed on?
The pharmacist in my local boots was coughing her guts up in the days before lockdown. Presumably she had a reason that her cough was innocuous too , but I felt very uneasy after being served by her

B0bbin · 24/04/2020 22:00

We were out today and as soon as we walked near some other humans (40 mins into walk, a few metres away) my 3 year old started coughing and coughing. I gave him some water but the looks from themShock

MorganKitten · 24/04/2020 22:01

As an asthmatic with hay fever, I cough, I will still go for my walk and get food.

Mascotte · 24/04/2020 22:01

The world has gone mad

mynameiscalypso · 24/04/2020 22:02

My 8 month old DS has learnt how to fake cough and thinks it's the most hilarious thing ever. We now call him the corona baby.

MrsTommyShelby · 24/04/2020 22:02

I have had a cough for 7 weeks, diagnosed by different doctors as a chest infection. I also have hay-fever.
