OMFG do not go out

If you have a cough, as innocuous as you might think it is! Why are you out? Just walked on my daily walk for about half an hour. 3 people walking past in safe distance all coughing 🤨 what the hell is wrong with people 😞

If we’re self diagnosing then this is what it comes to eventually.

What makes you think that people are self-diagnosing? I've had my form of Asthma for a few decades now and it's on my medical records. I'm pretty sure that the people who are stating that they have hay fever are very familiar with their own condition and know that it's their usual symptoms.

Jojobar · 24/04/2020 21:41

I go for a run most days, I cough at least once because I'm not as fit as I should be. I did have to spit something out too yesterday because I was nearly sick after pushing myself to run faster. I did have a good look round to check no one was in sight (I run in our local woodland which is empty most of the time).

wonderstuff · 24/04/2020 21:42

NHS advice is that if you've not got a temperature but your cough persists after 14 days you can go out. Also hayfever.

beebeedandelion · 24/04/2020 21:42

@Therollockingrogue Everyone has an excuse for their cough though in this nice weather . Because would you rather have hayfever (nice quality of life, walks out and about each day)

So we're lying then? I've had hay fever and asthma for over 50 years, I think I can tell if it's my hay fever and/or asthma and not a virus.

ODFOD.

StrawberryJam200 · 24/04/2020 21:42

I beg your pardon, I just double checked o the NHS site and it says you can go out for exercise 7 days after symptoms first appear.

I'm sure it originally said you could still go out for exercise in the first 7 days! I've noticed before they add to or amend the NHS Covid advice but don't publicise it, which I think is a shame.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 24/04/2020 21:43

A cough could be for many reasons.

I have more of a problem with some minky joggers who are hawking gobs as they trot. No excuse or decent reason for that.

lyralalala · 24/04/2020 21:43

BIL has a cough as a result of having coronavirus. He tested negative (after positive tests and a stint in hospital) two weeks ago. He's been told because of the amount of coughing he's done he'll likely have a cough for weeks, but can go out once he's got some energy back.

ludothedog · 24/04/2020 21:43

Last time I coughed I pee'd myself. Just thought I'd share that with you..... and my baby's 10!!!

Fruitsaladjelly · 24/04/2020 21:44

Covid can leave you with a nice little residual cough weeks after you recover from the virus.

Therollockingrogue · 24/04/2020 21:44

It’s difficult though .
So lots of people have chronic and existing conditions and they have a cough.
But just before lockdown the amount of people I encountered locally who had the worst coughs (new, persistent) and would say "don’t worry it’s not corona!!"

Katypyee · 24/04/2020 21:45

YABU. My husband has seasonal allergies. It causes nasal drip. It makes him cough. It is ridiculous to suggest he stay indoors. He is completely well.

Fespital · 24/04/2020 21:45

Both DDs have hay fever with sneeze and cough. Definitely this as a) they have it every year not just Covid-19 years b) we've been isolating for 5 weeks so highly improbable.

Thedogscollar · 24/04/2020 21:45

You sound ridiculous and dramatic. What is wrong with you??

Unescorted · 24/04/2020 21:45

Is it not a new continuous cough?

If you are walking past them how do you know that they haven't had it a while or it isn't a short coughing episode. Unless you are their stalker, in which case you need a new hobby.

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 21:46

I have asthma and hay fever

Mum has a weird dry throat thing from her medication and coughs.

Get a grip, OP.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/04/2020 21:46

Gross, but coronavirus presents with a dry cough, not one that would produce mucus that needs to be spat out.

Nope, lots of people also have phlegm as a symptom.

Street spitting should be a bloody criminal offence again.

Isolatedbunny · 24/04/2020 21:46

Shut UP!

Hadjab · 24/04/2020 21:47

I have hay fever, it makes me cough. I also need to go out and get food for my family. What exactly would you have me do - cough or choke to death?

I have allergies plus reflux and have a near permanent sore throat. People either think I'm ill or smoke 60 a day.
Sadly it's just not that straightforward so OMFG stop judging! WinkSmile

Therollockingrogue · 24/04/2020 21:48

No I don’t think anyone is lying.
Just that it’s too easy for everyone to say they have hayfever or allergies or a residual cough if they’d rather go about their business than self isolate.

saraclara · 24/04/2020 21:48

I've had a cough for six weeks. I isolated for the first week in case (though I had no other symptoms) I've spoken to the doctor twice, had antibiotics, and both times asked if I should go out, and she said it was absolutely fine to do so.

I try desperately not to cough when I go out, but occasionally one will slip out. People will have to get over it.

Boxachocs · 24/04/2020 21:49

@SpratsOnParade I have cough variant asthma too and dread getting this virus because of how much it will make me cough!!!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 24/04/2020 21:49

All people who cough have to stay in?
Hayfever?
Asthma?
Smokers cough?
Bronchial problems?
That's a hell of a lot of people you're condemning to a life in doors there, OP.
Not all coughs are covid FFS

Likethebattle · 24/04/2020 21:50

I have hayfever which causes a dry cough and also reflux which can cause me to cough. These are NOT NEW w per the guidelines it’s a new and persistent cough that is worrying
