I haven't been out for a walk in almost 4 weeks, I'm so worried about it so I have stayed in with DD 2 years old but im wondering if I'm being silly and if I should go out for a walk a day?

No, I don’t like walking in my local area. It’s boring and aimless, everyone trudging along pavements around the housing estate. Have done it a couple of times, but it’s not for me. We do have a garden though, once I’ve finished a full days work I sit in the sun. I might feel differently if I had time on my hands though, maybe it would feel better than sitting in the house with nothing to do.

Dipi79 · 25/04/2020 00:03

Please take your poor child out for some fresh air, FFS.

FranKatzenjammer · 25/04/2020 00:27

I've stayed in for 5.5 weeks, with just one short walk and also one short drive to stop my car battery from going flat. I have a weak immune system and I catch everything. I'm exercising at home (a bit) and also WFH (a lot).

AuntieMarys · 25/04/2020 07:41

julybaby please just get out there and walk! I walk miles alone....no dog or children necessary!

Abouttimemum · 25/04/2020 07:54

Yes, walk every day with DS aged 1, usually in his carrier. He’d be absolutely hideous if he didn’t get some fresh air.

TimeForChange123 · 25/04/2020 08:05

Yes of courseConfused

eaglejulesk · 25/04/2020 08:20

I go out for around an hour every day, and my 86 year old Dad is going out for a walk with others from his retirement village. It's healthy to get some fresh air and exercise, not to mention Vitamin D.

ednclouda · 25/04/2020 13:58

yes I have been out and got my steps up to about 4000 Would have gone stir crazy without fresh air If your careful and sensible its fine

don't Roast me

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 25/04/2020 17:31

Yes, although it's more of a waddle as I'm 33 weeks pregnant. It's good to get some fresh air. We just walk around the block - we rarely see anyone else but if they do we are all mindful to keep our distance

OhMyDarling · 25/04/2020 17:38

Nope
Dogs are walked by me or one of the teens
I have bet been for a walk since last wkend but I am a key worker so have left the house so that makes a difference

DanceItOut · 25/04/2020 17:38

Yes every day, with the DCs but we live in a flat with no garden so no other option.

Nettie1964 · 25/04/2020 17:43

Fear is setting in. Go out for a walk ffs. How will you catch I c19 on a walk? This is madness. Use face masks and gloves if you are so terrified.

amigababy · 25/04/2020 17:44

No. I'm in Spain and don't fancy a €600 fine.
Supermarket once a week, on foot, 5 minutes away. Coming back with the heaviest bags I can carry.

amigababy · 25/04/2020 17:46

And from our window we see both the local and national police in their cars at least once an hour driving round the village. Not a risk I'm going to take.

sunshine11 · 25/04/2020 17:50

I run at 6am then take the kids out for a walk in the woods at about 4pm everyday. Staying in is bad for your physical and mental health.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 17:52

That must be difficult for you amigababy, my IL’s are Spanish and we used to live there so I have many friends there and I know it’s a struggle.
Not really relevant to the OP though as she’s in the UK and therefore permitted to go for a walk.

amigababy · 25/04/2020 17:57

It's not too bad as I'm a real homebody anyway. Though we were meant to be in the UK, and if we were we'd be going out as per the rules. I guess I read the thread just so I could be a bit envious.
Children will be allowed out here by Monday. Maybe the rest of us at our next lockdown review on May 9th.

Banj0girl · 25/04/2020 18:00

I am going out with DS 6 days a week. Maximum walk done so far is 8 miles. We live in a village and usually go out between 5 and 8 pm. We have covered nearly every footpath within 3 miles of home. I have had to say no today though because I have a swollen foot, hopefully back to normal tomorrow. We don't meet many people and of course we do practice social distancing and say hello. Sometimes you can have a laugh. We do meet some people and we have to go into the road to avoid them. You should go out as much as possible while the weather is good. We always wash hands when we get back.

Helen1224 · 25/04/2020 18:16

No, my ASD son goes into meltdown when I suggest it, for 2 reasons.

  1. I received a shielding and he overheard a phone call conversation where I was talking to my mother I it
  2. He worries about getting it and dying
Zoejj77 · 25/04/2020 18:25

Yes of course take my 2 yr old out for a walk up to an hour most days

Muchtoomuchtodo · 25/04/2020 18:28

Yes! Every day.
I feel much better after a 1/2 hour walk, especially after a stressful day in work.

essexvicky · 25/04/2020 18:28

We’ve been out twice and both times came too close to people for my liking! Once I though the road was clear and a lady walked out her front door, down her path and stepped right in front of us. 2nd time we walked along a road and 2 sets or people were having a conversation from opposite sides of the road so we had no choice but to walk in between them. It’s the people who are saying why wouldn’t you are the irresponsible ones who are being too relaxed about it! If you have a garden that’s a great way to get exercise and vitamin D. Also joe wicks etc is as good as going for a walk.

SacredHour · 25/04/2020 18:29

I go for a walk with dcs most days. However I am confused. I thought the rule was one bit of exercise a day. My DH often goes for a run for about 45 minutes then wants to join us for our walk. I say he has had his one bit of exercise so he can’t come with us. He says I’m being ridiculous. Is it just me that has the most ridiculous arguments during such strange times?!

BullshitometerCalibrator · 25/04/2020 18:33

No because I'm in the extremely vulnerable shielding category. I'm losing my mind as I usually walk for miles for exercise every day. And whoever said sunlight kills covid - have you been having science lessons from Donald Trump? 🤣

Sockmonster23 · 25/04/2020 18:40

Absolutely sunshine is out and its BEAUTIFUL. oh and yes sunshine does kills certain viruses, hence why way less viruses in summer 😉 but that's another debate 😂
