To genuinely wonder what is going to happen to the US?

Weirdly the story has now disappeared from the BBC since I saw it this morning, but basically. Donald Trump is suggesting UV treatment and injecting disinfectant as a means to kill COVID.

Obviously most know he’s a lunatic, but enough support him to keep him in power, and people will take this advice seriously and will surely inevitably die as a result.

Thing is, there seems no way to stop him. if he gets back into power, which he undoubtedly will, then they have another four years of this, in which case the stability of the country is in serious danger.

But if he doesn’t get in I predict serious unrest and even wonder whether the states could end up in civil war.

Either way it’s not a place I would want to be going right now.

It’s obviously easy to laugh at trump from the sidelines, but people are having to live under this....

He will lose the popular vote again, in all probability by a greater margin.

But a combination of gerrymandering, voter supression and the vagueries of the electoral college mean he could still scrape it.

Bluewavescrashing · 24/04/2020 13:22

I think he has an actual issue like possibly dementia.

My cousin lives in the States and I'm really worried about him.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 24/04/2020 13:27

The man was always a fool. Inherited a fortune and lost it. Now however, it’s not just he and his family who are at risk, it’s the US and possibly world peace/stability. Americans must feel such shame each time he steps up to the podium. He’s a very ill man at best an egocentric lunatic at worst. It really amazes me that he’s still allowed “out”.

LadyEloise · 24/04/2020 13:36

What amazes me is that, despite getting more individual votes than Trump, Hilary Clinton ( who I can't stand but she is better than Trump ) lost the election because of the electoral colleges system of voting. Is that democracy ?

The system must be changed.
Next time the Democrats have majorities in both houses, change the stupid system.

Bubblewings · 24/04/2020 13:56

Surely after suggesting that injecting bleach may be the way forward he will now be carted off......SURELY!!!

PhilCornwall1 · 24/04/2020 14:54

What's next from this tool, if you've not got syringes eat a couple of toilet blocks?

He's off his nut!!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 24/04/2020 14:58

The main concern in America at the moment is that the poverty, lack of welfare, lack of decent health care means thay the lockdown is going to destry lives. Yes Trump should have asked his silly question in a private meeting but honestly I dont think he is the only concern over there just now

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 24/04/2020 14:59

I have seen a website where a luny woman(I thing she is a podiatrist) is peddling giving children bleach drops as a cure for autism

NiteFlights · 24/04/2020 15:05

Yes, I have read about people promoting diluted bleach as an ‘autism cure’. There is also black salve which people use to ‘cure’ skin cancer - it just completely destroys the tissue. (It was featured in an episode of Botched which was very interesting). I understand that this sort of thing is especially prevalent among extreme fundamentalist ‘Christian’ anti-abortion anti-vax anti-science anti-government circles.

Hyrana · 24/04/2020 15:18

Surely someone, somewhere will take charge? How can a person be allowed to spout actual dangerous information to the whole fucking world?

FixItUpChappie · 24/04/2020 15:26

You have to wonder what some people high up in the Republican party think

They are truly brown nosing soulless snakes without a shred of self-respect. I doubt even they approve of much of all he says and does but they just quiver in their boots and worry about their own jobs and power.....then take the knee, occasionally scuttling over to lick the megalomaniacs boots. Even the ones he has personally attacked in the media.

It's damaged my faith in human kind, I say that in all sincerity

It’s one thing to come up with a stupid idea like that in a closed meeting and then be rebutted by experts...

NO! It really isn't.

The world needs leaders with a brain, not idiots thinking injecting bleach is any sort of idea or shaking hands of patients with a serious infectious illness is to be recommended.

We in the UK have our own version of Trump, with equally vociferous supporters.

Yes what she said

I would quite like an easy quote function and a like button

KundaliniRising · 24/04/2020 15:41

Maybe we could get Barry Scott to encourage Trump to self-medicate with Cilit Bang?
BANG! And the dirt is GONE!

THIS Grin

DishingOutDone · 24/04/2020 15:57

Please please go on Twitter, Cilit Bang and Barry Scott are THE trend today.

chomalungma · 24/04/2020 16:58

From that

"We're talking about almost a latent sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't work, but it certainly has a big effect if it's on a stationary object," Trump said, not explicitly disavowing the possibility using disinfectants to treat humans, which has been roundly declared dangerous by medical experts and makers of such products.

chomalungma · 24/04/2020 16:59

After Trump's initial comments, in which he did suggest there might be a way to "do something like that by injection inside or, or almost a cleaning" after changing the topic from light to disinfectants but made clear it was not a definitive recommendation and said "medical doctors" should be involved in any tests, a reporter asked Bryan to clarify what the president said.

PhilCornwall1 · 24/04/2020 17:19

Sky News have just had a report on Mosquito Repellent offering protection against this virus. The world is going batshit.

Ylvamoon · 24/04/2020 17:21

I didn't think his stupid comments would reach that far: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52411706

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 24/04/2020 17:26

Maybe we should stick our heads in the microwave, if the nanny-state didn't make it cut out when you can't close the door.

WyfOfBathe · 24/04/2020 17:32

It's appalling. There are plenty of politicians and parties who I deeply dislike, but I understand why certain groups may vote for them. But Trump? It boggles the mind to think there are people who want such a dangerous president.

I am no can of Trump but when I read his comments it did make me think that is they could harness whatever it is in the cleaning fluids that kills Covid so quickly, it might be a good thing and it is possible he may have been meaning the same

Shock Please don't run for president

PhilCornwall1 · 24/04/2020 17:37

Errr, I'm pretty sure they can harness that as the contents is known, especially by the organisation who made it. The small fly in the ointment is that if used on a human internally it would kill them.

Echobelly · 24/04/2020 17:37

Sadly I fear that, no matter how bad things get, they'll vote him back in, because he'll divert evertyone's attention by TWEETING IN CAPITALS about how it's China or the Democrats' fault, or even if it's a close loss he'll not accept it.

I don't think a loss will trigger a civil war, but certainly the partisanship is getting awful.

TheSultanofPingu · 24/04/2020 18:13

Population of the USA 320+ million, and this ridiculous human is President.
