To ask the spookiest/creepiest/mysterious thing you've ever heard?

I know we've had these before but I just love all things creepy or mysterious!

I love reading them in the evening, perhaps I'm a freak but what is the scariest thing you've ever heard (or seen if you have any first hand experiences!)? Or even a horror short you've watched?

I usually read things about mysterious disappearances, anything to do with cults or witches gives me the creeps.

The Smiling Man on Creepy Pasta is one that always makes me uneasy!

I really miss the house. It wasn’t scary - usually - sometimes creepy but we were so used to it all, it wasn’t an issue.

It was sold to someone I didn’t care for... so I do hope the ghosties are still having their fun.

Motorheadmum · 26/04/2020 10:10

Shameless place mark, although I have had a few creepy things happen! Just got to work out how to condense!

lilyboleyn · 26/04/2020 10:10

@lettheshadows yes... you too?

keepingbees · 26/04/2020 11:05

@CharDee I remember your story, really creepy! Are there no Rightmove photos online? I'd love to see.

I had one night recently of odd 'activity.'
We have a divan bed, so no end on, and I woke in the night to the feeling someone was shuffling along the end of the bed. I looked, expecting to see one of the DC but no one was there, so went back to sleep. A while later I was woken again to the duvet being tugged down the bed. I was half asleep and felt annoyed rather than scared so just yanked it back up.
Then a while after that I woke again, I sleep on my front and as I woke I could feel a hand resting firmly in the back of my neck. It took a few seconds to process the feeling and realise it was an adult hand but not my DH's! At this point I had a heart attack and shot round to see DH asleep with his back to me so definitely not him. Me flying round woke him and when I told him what happened he started checking the room, not sure what he was expecting to find! I don't know whether he 100% believed me but he did admit the duvet had seemed to move around a lot that night...

Cookiemonster92 · 26/04/2020 13:08

Place marking!

The house I grew up in always had something odd about it, the occasional face-like shape peering around a wall if you were watching tv alone, floorboards creaking and stairs being walked up and down when no one was there!

I moved out years ago, but parents are still there, and when my nephew has stayed there (as a baby), they would hear loud banging on the walls, and upon checking the monitor, baby was fast asleep! This went on for a little while, and there are still unexplained noises, toys turning on, lights turning off!

I absolutely love these threads!!! 👏🏻😱

The one I remember from on here a few years back around about the some of the famous Savernake Forrest post and I have never forgotten was about a couple who had had to stop at a guest house (somewhere in Scotland) I think due to bad snow...

I can’t remember the exact story but the just was that the couple that owned the house were lovely and had given the man and wife a cabin/outbuilding out with the main house they had gone to sleep and the women had woken up to her husband going out to find the toilet and after drifting back to sleep for a few hours she had woken again to realise he still wasn’t back..

She had found him in a state of shock in the snow absolutely petrified with unexplainable injuries.

This is where is gets even more hazy for me...

They had taken him the the main house and the husband of the couple who had owned the house has sat him in front of the fire with a whiskey and the two men had shut the doors to the the women and had discussed that had happened. I remember that the guest house owners were obviously very worried for the scared injured man but were not surprised or willing to discuss or explain any further. The visiting husband recovered but would never discuss with her wife what he seen, what had happened or what explanation the guest house couple had given.

Both couples stayed in touch and from what I can remember and the woman writing the post said they were going back to visit later I’m the year and she was determined to get to the bottom of it and I have always wondered if she did as I would love to know!

susiella · 26/04/2020 14:17

whodunit3 unfortunately that story was someone;s attempt at creative writing. She never did finish the story.

It was Tristan & somebody else, I think

Snaketime · 26/04/2020 14:24

I have had a few creepy things happen to me, but the scariest thing I ever read was Slender man. Google it.

ellanwood · 26/04/2020 14:29

I was in the desert at sunset - in the middle of absolutely nowhere with a few friends scattered around in the sand drinking beer - when I heard my dad call my name very calmly, clearly but insistently. I asked if anyone had called my name and no one had. They were all sitting very chilled and silent.

When we got back to the city I picked up my post and found a letter from my dad telling me my mum was no longer seriously ill so I didn't have to come home after all. I had no idea my mum was ill.

ellanwood · 26/04/2020 14:50

When I was at primary school (decades ago) we used to walk from school to the local swimming baths once a week. One day we passed a house and an old lady was standing right at the bay window waving and waving so I stopped and waved back to her. Several of my friends asked what i was doing and I said, 'Just being friendly to that woman, she looks lonely.' 'What woman?' they said. I pointed to her and they swore they couldn't see her, even though she was right there at the window, waving. Then another girl from our class came up and told me an old lady had lived there and died the week before. They swore they weren't winding me up and I believed them as they were very gentle, polite girls who didn't mess around.

NewZealandtrees · 26/04/2020 14:53

Very interesting thread!
I've had a few spooky experiences bit the one I will never forget and something I don't tell people happened in 2016.

I'm in my early thirties and moved to an Edwardian terrace house with 2 friends. Lovely feel to the place, we snapped it up immediately.

At first the house seemed wonderful. However slowly but surely the house turned in on itself and I believe it was deeply troubled and haunted.

The first thing were the neighbours kids giggling and laughing and running up and down the landing next door. I found it odd as it was quite late 9-10pm for little kids always at the same time in the same place.
Only months later it occurred to us the neighbours didn't have kids 😬
The landing always felt creepy and as though you were being watched and someone was going to push you down the stairs.
I ignored this for months until my housemate brought it up that she could see shadows of people in the house. I saw these shadows too!
Then the taps started to come on full blast.
First time i heard the bathroom tap come on, believing it was my housemate running a bath. After a while I thought she'd forgotten so I went to tune off the taps.
The bathroom was flooded with boiling water and the tap full blast. No one was in the house!
Same thing happened a few days later but with the bathroom sink tap.
This kept happening.

Creepiest bit: things went missing. I did some baking and had a baking cupboard everything was neatly in its place. I decided to bake the second day knowing that I'd put the baking powder in as the last item in the cupboard the night before. I was home alone. So when I couldn't find it I turned the kitchen upside down because the day before it was the last thing I'd packed away.
I got so angry I just lost it and said "stop playing games, please give it back" I then walked out of the kitchen to clear my head. I went upstairs to have a wee and as I was in the bathroom I panicked a bit and it dawned on me I'd just acknowledged whatever it was. I had a sense of dread.
As I came down stairs the radio was now on and in to the kitchen there was the tub of baking powder sitting in the middle of the table nothing else on the table!
I crapped myself.
I grabbed my bag and keys and left the house.
I was very upset. I had no where to go, nowhere was open. I live in a city it was 10pm but literally nothing was open.

I drove and drove until I saw one light on. I parked up and it was a Spiritualist church (no idea what it is).
I decided to knock on the door. They welcomed me in and said they believed me and that it was a friendly spirit who was trying to help me.
They did a healing and said to me to ask whatever it was to leave.
I felt so much better, I was never bothered again in the house. The atmosphere was much better.
I do feel it was very strange that I ended up finding a spiritual church. I'm not religious but that night I felt I was meant to find those people. They were very kind.

TofutiKline · 26/04/2020 14:58

Yeah that happened 🙄

Spied · 26/04/2020 15:01

I've had a few experiences I've posted before but the latest thing I can think of that happened to me was last year when I slept on my dd's bottom bunk as dp was snoring.
I was wide awake as I'd never drifted to sleep because of the noise and I decided to go into dd's room. She was sound asleep.
I got into bed and wrapped up facing the wall. I laid there for a couple of minutes getting comfy and I closed my eyes.
In the darkness I felt a body snuggle up to me and an arm wrap around me. Jumped out of bed. DD still sleeping. Ran into my room to find dp still snoring.
I now just lie awake when dp snores badly as not a chance in sleeping in dd's room.

Spied · 26/04/2020 15:03

DD was top bunk. I was bottom

thewinefairy · 26/04/2020 17:19

Not really scary. My DH doesn't believe in anything like this, he's a scientist, everything has a logical explanation.

DH was on gardening leave a few years ago, it was about 7.30, dcs were up watching tv and playing downstairs. I went to make a cup of tea and took it to dh in bed. I went into to our room, dh was sitting up in bed. I'll never forget the look on his face, utter astonishment. I asked him if he was ok. He said 'I've just seen my grandad'. his grandfather died years earlier. Dh said his grandfather appeared to him. Dh said he looked so well and so young. He was smiling. His grandfather said 'it's wonderful here, I tried to tell your nan.....' and then dh said he just floated off.

It was the look on DHs face and what he said - how young his grandfather looked, how well he was etc, that's what really got me. I can't explain it and neither can he.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 26/04/2020 17:37

I've had a few spooky moments.
One I'll never forget is feeling someone behind me on the stairs. It was almost as though they were breathing down my neck.
I dropped the washing I was carrying and ran downstairs.

Also, in the same house I stepped back on the landing and thought my dh was behind me as I felt like I had stepped on someone's foot. I said oh I'm really sorry, turned round to feel like a dick because my dh wasn't there. No one was. I always felt watched too like 'something' had its eye on me. And I'm so glad we moved.

HeyAllYouCoolCatsAndKittenz · 27/04/2020 17:47

More please i love these threads...

Lordfrontpaw · 27/04/2020 18:01

Not spooky... my mums great aunt used to do the whole spiritualist thing during WW1 (these were very popular) and would put on evening soirées. (No this isn’t going where you think).

Her daughter was a child and had severe learning difficulties - but she would sneak in and help herself to the sandwiches and cakes before the guests arrived - then in a very serious manner tell everyone that the spirits had already been - and eaten their tea (and left).

SerenDippitty · 27/04/2020 18:14

Then a while after that I woke again, I sleep on my front and as I woke I could feel a hand resting firmly in the back of my neck.

I've had this, feeling someone touching me - it's a sleep paralysis dream.

keepingbees · 27/04/2020 22:52

Yes possible, but I've never experienced sleep paralysis before or anything like it. I was awake for a few seconds of it as it woke me up and that part definitely wasn't dreaming. It also doesn't explain the other goings on. It just felt a really weird night, but who knows.

Comps83 · 27/04/2020 23:12

Check out The Tickle Monster on ch4. DH and I watched it yday and both nearly shat ourselves then spent about 5 mins giggling.
It's only a few mins long

Comps83 · 27/04/2020 23:25

My baby was in January and my mother died quite unexpectedly a week later
A few days after that I was lying in bed listening to the baby about to boot off when I heard someone very clearly say his name
He instantly went silent for about 10 mins

Bridgeofpies · 29/04/2020 13:56

Bump! More please!!

TofutiKline · 29/04/2020 14:04

I soooo want the Savernake forest story to be true and not a creative writing exercise.

pairofchairs · 29/04/2020 14:08

@TofutiKline Me too. Either way, it's a wonderfully written piece.
