To ask the spookiest/creepiest/mysterious thing you've ever heard?

I know we've had these before but I just love all things creepy or mysterious!

I love reading them in the evening, perhaps I'm a freak but what is the scariest thing you've ever heard (or seen if you have any first hand experiences!)? Or even a horror short you've watched?

I usually read things about mysterious disappearances, anything to do with cults or witches gives me the creeps.

The Smiling Man on Creepy Pasta is one that always makes me uneasy!

When I was sat in my sons room, putting away his washing with him, My 6 year old recently said to me:

‘Mummy, be careful where you put your hands, my friends are sat there, they are children with no skin. The girl is friendly but the boy DEFINITELY isn’t’

This is a bit spooky and I’m a bit Shock sharing it.
My oldest sister used to rent an old country house which me and my twin sister would go to with her on our school holidays.
It was 1970s and the house had no electric so we used a Tilley lamp which hung from the ceiling to light the place.
Anyway, one day my sister and I decided between us that we were going to make the glass explode by staring at it and say explode over and over in our heads.
After a few minutes the glass exploded and shattered all round the room.
It was in the daytime so there was no heat in the glass.
It really freaked us out and we both started to cry.
You’ll be glad to know we didn’t try anything like that again.

Not sure if this one has been posted before...

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 24/04/2020 22:10

Love these sorts of things. Does anyone remember a story someone posted about when they did house-sitting for a friend and one of their dogs went absolutely ballistic at something in the garden? And they went outside to investigate?

YgritteSnow · 24/04/2020 22:11

Marking place for daytime. Can't read this thread now as I almost shuddered myself inside out just looking at the first few posts.

GrumpyHoonMain · 24/04/2020 22:21

DS only babbles to people. A few days ago the bathroom door kept open and shutting randomly. It’s a bit loose as the wood has warped slightly and so never closes but it’s never open and closed by itself like that before. Anyway after a particularly loud bang while I was feeding him DS started arching his back like he does when someone is behind him and started to loudly and excitedly babble for nearly 5 mins. He never did that before and hasn’t done it since and it freaked me out.

Keep them coming I'm on a night shift tomorrow 😬

KittyLane1 · 24/04/2020 22:33

I was a young teen mum and wasnt coping too well. Baby DD woke up in the middle of the night and was fussing/gurning. I remember suddenly feeling an overwhelming feeling of positive energy and an immediate calm spreading through my body. And I could hear a voice inside my head telling me to go back to sleep and that DD was absolutely fine, DD stopped fussing and slept soundly the whole night and I cuddled up feeling completely protected and loved.
No idea who the voice or presence belonged to, no one all that nice in my (dead) family!

Placemarking for the morning.

DH and I used to live in a terraced flat, it was a purpose built maisonette and our flat was the last house in the row but on our left hand side was a shop.

All the layouts of the houses were exactly the same. The steps up from our front door were next to the shop's. One afternoon after we'd just moved in I was working from home and heard children giggling and running up the stairs next door to us. I just assumed children lived above the shop.

Over the course of a week, both of us had heard the children running up and down and the first time we went to the shop we asked about the children. Nope. No children, just the elderly couple who ran the corner shop.

DH and I are also convinced we both saw children's faces at the windows.

Betelgeyse · 24/04/2020 23:14

The black eyed children freak me out 😬

Anyone remember a blog about a young American man who used to have night visits from a child ghost (Albert?) whi has a chunk of his head missing. He found a child’s shoe on the roof? It started to get nasty... (it wasn’t real guys, but a well written yarn).

SpookyOhs · 25/04/2020 00:08

This one always gets me as well as I had a dream as a child that there was a 'shadow' when the lights went out like in this short. It stuck with me into adulthood and really gives me the creeps when I think about it!

Just read "Smiling Man". I am now not peeing until the morning.

ManualFlusherSnot · 25/04/2020 00:38

When my grandad was dying, he couldn’t move for days. Just before he passed, he mustered the strength to sit up in his bed, then he told his son to move out of the way because he couldn’t see “them” (there was only a wall behind his son) then he flopped down and died. I like to believe the people were angels who came to take him to heaven.

HeechulMyOppa · 25/04/2020 02:07

Lordfrontpaw- Dear David!

areukiddingme · 25/04/2020 02:12

So glad you did not mention the names, because the rest of the information is so ambiguous..

Sparklfairy · 25/04/2020 02:24

The mystery of Elisa Lam. I think it was all explained away in the end but still no one is sure what happened to her. The video of her in the lift is deeply unsettling and she was found dead, naked curled up in the hotel water tank (with the lid on tight) on the roof even though the CCTV shows there was no one around Confused

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 25/04/2020 02:45

I have shared this story before, but I woke up one night with a dodgy stomach, so went to the loo.

As I flushed the toilet, a hot pain went down my back. As I turned around, I saw a light bulb being flushed down the toilet. But the light was still on.

I went downstairs for water, and every drawer and cupboard was open.

Turns out, the bulb fell out of the socket, but not the filament, and I have sloppy children.

HavartiToSeeYou · 25/04/2020 04:05

Re: Elisa Lam, the lid wasn’t on “tight” exactly. It was hinged, very easy to open, and once opened gravity or a burst of wind could easily have knocked the lid back down. Or she may have lifted it just a crack to slip inside. Imagine opening the lid of a wheelie bin, as opposed to taking the lid off a round bin.

Sparklfairy · 25/04/2020 04:08

@HavartiToSeeYou yeah I think it was all explained away (the lid did weigh 20lb though!), but I'll never forget that unsettling feeling of her in the lift! Like she was possessed!

HavartiToSeeYou · 25/04/2020 04:16

20lbs isn’t that heavy if it’s hinged, though. Quite a few internet detectives have visited the hotel and filmed themselves easily lifting the lid with one hand.

Her behaviour in the video is sadly not unusual for someone in experiencing an episode of mania or psychosis. The real horror of the Lam case is that a young woman with serious mental illness wound up alone and unsupervised in a shitty residential hotel.

Honsandrebels · 25/04/2020 04:53

@BillyAndTheSillies was it in London? My parents lived in a place in the 70s and had the exact same experience.

Sparklfairy · 25/04/2020 05:43

@HavartiToSeeYou I wasn't disputing it! Grin Poor girl had lots of MH issues. I think I first came across her on a youtube compliation of 'unexplained paranormal caught on camera' type video. That horrible sick chilling feeling I got watching her in the lift, hands splayed out and bent over like something out of the Exorcist has always stuck with me. They briefly touched on the water tank, her squished inside naked etc and it was Envy But when you look into it further it probably wasn't demons Grin

The hotel was nicknamed the Suicide though due to the sheer number of them! Shock
