I couldn't see another tread on this. But if there is, please link it.

What's your opinion on this? AIBU to think this is in very bad taste?

OP posts:

Get a grip op. My sister is a nurse and it's so so bleak and dark, even at the best of times that the staff have to have fun to get themselves through it. The thought that this is in bad taste has been planted in your head by the daily mail who i saw had that on their website to wind people up. Pathetic.

bellinisurge · 23/04/2020 11:03

I have MS. I have biannual appointments with a specialist nurse. They've been cancelled for a year. I know how to get hold of them if I need them. Or my gp if I'm stuck. I bloody hope he's dancing when he can.
I did a thread on here yonks ago about being pissed off that a nurse at a GP surgery nurse appointment I had to attend had a mug saying "I'd rather be shopping ". Given that I would also rather have been shopping (I hate shopping), I thought it crass and ignorant of her. I got slated on here.

There's a time and place. And dancing on your break time is fine by me.

HannahStern · 23/04/2020 11:03

What an arsewhole thread.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 11:04

Hendrix Exactly. There are children who aren’t getting fed now that they aren’t at school, these donations would be better directed to the local authority to distribute them there.

gingganggooleywotsit · 23/04/2020 11:05

yep

I don't remember the army videos being condemned a few years ago.
NHS workers are patients too so have also had ops, referral and follow ups cancelled. We also have vunerable relatives, friends and colleagues(and a few who've died).
Hospitals seem to be considering how best to accomodate 2 week wait patients bearing in mind theatres or their staff are being used as surge areas.Itus are full but the extra capacity to ventilate patients still has capacity, staff have to come from somewhere to do this(which is why the nightingale facility in London isn't able to be used properly).
If dancing is all you have to complain about then go ahead. The short lived gratitude to the NHS and care workers was bound to go back to normal quickly.

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 11:06

There are children who aren’t getting fed now that they aren’t at school, these donations would be better directed to the local authority to distribute them there.

There are vouchers or packed lunches available to those who are usually eligible for free school meals. Even I think it's a bit petty to begrudge some free food when on shift.

gingganggooleywotsit · 23/04/2020 11:06

Let them do what they like you miserable mealy mouthed saddos.

papiermaches · 23/04/2020 11:07

Look at them dancing on the graves of the people they’ve killed. b’tards!!!!
Bring back hanging, I blame the immigrants, when are we getting our country back etc etc etc

andhessixfeetten · 23/04/2020 11:08

I dislike it because it's cheesy and saccharine but that's easily solved by not watching it (if I can stop the BBC ramming it down my throat anyway).
But I don't think relatives of the sick have any cause to object. A cheered-up healthcare worker is a more focussed, less burnt-out, more motivated healthcare worker.

Doggybiccys · 23/04/2020 11:08

@00100001
It's only Daily Fail type readers that would be so fucking miserable about staff dancing.
"but ther'es peopel DYING"
miserbale fucking twats all of them

You are either being ironic here or spectactularly missing the point - yes, 10s of thousands of people are dying during the worst crisis in decades. People are losing their loved ones in horrible circumstances where they are dying alone. Mothers not being able to comfort their dying children. The economy is on its knees.

People are terrified and it will take years to get us out of this mire......and you think people are miserable fucking twats to agree that NHS staff (mainly nurses I am embarrassed to say) think that this is a good time to waste NHS time and resources to film themselves doing dance routines in NHS hospitals when people may be literally dying in the next room/ward? This is nothing about keeping spirits up or supporting each other - it is pure narcisism.

If that makes me a miserable fucking twat then I am glad I am. When I started my nurse training more than 30 years ago, self-promotion and seeking gratification on social media for doing the job I signed up for funnily enough wasn't on the curriculum. More contemporary curriculums are all about dignity and respect - and I am seeing anything but this in these bloody tik tok videos. I think I will stick to watching cats miming Michael Buble songs thanks.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 23/04/2020 11:09

food should not be donated to those who have access to/funds for food

It’s personal choice where you want to donate to, if your concern if those out of work then donate to a food bank, if people want to donate food to the NHS then that too is up to them. I’m sure both would be gratefully received by the recipients.

RogueSymphonies · 23/04/2020 11:09

NHS staff would prefer a wage reflective of their skills and effort rather than a free pepperoni pizza

This argument really annoys me, many NHS staff are on a decent wage and yet are asking for more. I have a friend who's a consultant, who's partners a consultant and who says they don't earn enough and want a pay rise. They've just brought a 2 million pound house, their children are both in private school and they have several expensive trips abroad each year. I see absolutely no reason for their wages need to be increased.

There are people who do need salary increases, that's true, but it is definitely not all NHS staff.

Many staff are incredibly grateful for the pizzas!

Doggybiccys · 23/04/2020 11:10

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus - well said!

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2020 11:11

Honestly between threads whining about how terrible schools and teachers are, to telling nurses and HCP what to do on their breaks, and threads moaning about the police, it goes to show how many miserable whiny gits there are out there who think they know it all regarding other people's jobs.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 11:11

Gruffawoah I’m sure we wouldn’t grudge children and their families a treat of cakes/pizza/curry? Surely no one would. Rather than some warm sandwiches delivered by a teacher.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/04/2020 11:12

Well I hope that the HCA and the nurse that was with mum when she took her last breath do dance, mum would have loved that.

Thighmageddon · 23/04/2020 11:13

There are vouchers or packed lunches available to those who are usually eligible for free school meals. Even I think it's a bit petty to begrudge some free food when on shift.

It's been reported that there's been issues with this and some children are not getting what they need.

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 11:17

@Nicknacky no I wouldn't, but I also don't begrudge NHS staff having meals donated by businesses who want to do so, I don't think that they are responsible for ensuring that children are fed. If businesses chose to donate to them as well or instead of the NHS then that's also great. @Thighmageddon that's sad, but doesn't mean that it isn't available and should justify businesses who want to not donating to NHS staff.

Doggybiccys · 23/04/2020 11:18

@LolaSmiles - this is not a game of cards - these are choreographed, practised and planned dance routines - they don't just happen on a break! And if they do, then how many staff must there be on a ward for the amount involved to all be on a break at once? My ward has 25 beds and usually 4 nurses and 3 HCSWs per shift. How on earth we could manage a dance routine with all of us in a half hour break is beyond me? Well to be fair, it wouldn't be all of us - we would leave out one person to provide care for the 25 sick patients during our frolicks.

And how many takes do you think to perfect these routines?

People thinking these vidoes are thrown together during a quiet 10 minute period on the ward are seriously deluded.

Public confidence is frequently undermined when professionals, whilst in uniform, act unprofessionally; putting these dances on Tik Tok is ill advised.

WilburIsSomePig · 23/04/2020 11:21

@trappedsincesundaymorn I'm so sorry. Sad

Hagisonthehill · 23/04/2020 11:21

I don't dance I'm too tired but I watched one done a few weeks back ,one of those nurses is in ITU and may never dance again.
But as someone above said ,pile on in with the criticism after looking after the very sick all day it is nothing by comparison. And it can't make me feel worse.
