I couldn't see another tread on this. But if there is, please link it.

What's your opinion on this? AIBU to think this is in very bad taste?

I think putting these videos on social media is unprofessional and a bit crass and would get you a disciplinary in every place I have ever worked in. NHS workers are regular people who need to blow off steam but they are also professionals who need to be careful about what they put on social media.

AlternativePerspective · 23/04/2020 19:59

Oh and, this thread is also attention seeking, so how does posting a thread about this make you any different from those who dance?

Or is it because they’re not behaving as you think they should?

LeaahLey · 23/04/2020 20:13

Don’t people think they are just having some fun and releasing some stress.

It’s not the nurses or doctors fault all non emergency treatment has been cancelled it’s a decision the government has made.

People need to stop being so F**king sensitive

Tellmetruth4 · 23/04/2020 20:17

I don’t think NHS staff are anyone’s whipping boys apart from only the most fervent libertarians who start to itch at the mere mention of the word ‘state’.

As PP have said, they are on the frontline, working hard and in difficult circumstances. The vast majority of people commend, respect and admire them for their dedication. However, that doesn’t mean that everything every one of them do is going to be great. They’re not infallible Gods. People are allowed to say that. Putting things on SM is always a gamble more so if you’re doing it from your workplace even at the best of times. Surely someone involved could’ve seen how this could look or maybe they’ve all got so hyped up by the clapping and hero’s stuff that they didn’t pause to think it through.

Superrabbit · 23/04/2020 20:19

We are having to manage and plan for unimaginable horror (I speak as an nhs consultant)...whilst being exposed to huge viral load...risking our own and our familes lives...let us be...and be thankful it is not you who has to make these plans and decisions.

AlternativePerspective · 23/04/2020 20:25

I had my cardiology consultation a couple of weeks ago and the consultant I spoke to gave me CPR last year so without him I literally wouldn’t be here. They have to do this because those consultants will be the ones working on the front line but I have been told in no uncertain terms that if I become symptomatic I am to go in.

This is how it has to be, and TBH as one who is shielding I would rather not go into one of London’s main hospitals as an out patient right now.

Whenever I hear of an NHS death I look to see if it is someone who was responsible for my care last year because I spent two weeks in ICU and another four weeks on a different ward, had surgery, CPR, was defibrilated and so on.

So if these people want to dance then really, why do people care so much? Seriously why?

I presume those people are volunteering for the NHS?

CoffeeRevelLove · 23/04/2020 20:27

Oh fuck off. You really want to deny the over-worked, super stressed staff a small moment of fun?

Stilllivinghere · 23/04/2020 20:35

We’re not like you, we see things differently. That’s why we’re at work with infected people and then come home to our families. And you are at home, waiting for internet delivery slots because your are too scared to brave the supermarket.

We might be in ITU next week like our friends..... so let’s celebrate today.

Tellmetruth4 · 23/04/2020 20:36

Nobody is saying they can’t dance to let off steam, or get shit faced off duty or whatever they need to do to get through this. Nobody is proposing banning dancing for NHS staff. I can’t speak fo anyone else but what I’m saying is that it was poor judgement to film and upload it for public view. Workplaces don’t allow this because of the shit it can cause, just like this.

They’ve scored an own goal here because now the libertarian/Cummings types can claim they aren’t busy, don’t need PPE etc because look they’ve got time to dance and they are all in PPE.

Ginfilledcats · 23/04/2020 20:49

Just like to add that in the majority of cases, patients have been risk assessed as to whether it's safer to cancel their appointment/treatment due to the risk and implications of them contracting the virus, or whether it's safer to defer them.
I know for my specialties, a full clinical review of notes and results or referrals have been reviewed, a 2 page document outlining the risks, and an acceptable/safe time frame for when they can be seen is completed. No patients have been forgotten about. But in classic NHS style, we haven't communicated this at all/effectively to the general public.

As for the videos, I cringe at them but I'd cringe at anyone doing those sort of things, it's not limited to the NHS staff. Not going to try and justify their actions as not for me to do so. Live and let live I say, do what you need to do to get through the day

Bounceyflouncey · 23/04/2020 20:54

@Stilllivinghere that's all very well, but it doesn't mean there's a need to upload it to the internet. I have worked for the emergency services for the past 15 years, I know all about dark humour and night shift randomness, but it doesn't mean it is something that the public need or want to see. Plus we are all staying home to pRoTeCt ThE nHs remember, not sure why you are mocking people for being scared.

Stilllivinghere · 23/04/2020 21:07

Not mocking, just stating we are all different. Those who can go to the shop should.....but lots still choose not to. What a lovely choice to have.

Bounceyflouncey · 23/04/2020 21:14

Still not sure how that is really relevant to people uploading the videos, people can have respect for the work people are doing and find it distasteful. Also surely you have a choice, admittedly hopefully not every HCP decides to leave, but you could join the masses of people at home who are losing their jobs due to the advice to shut down certain sectors, and then you would be free to make the choice if you want to go to the shop or get a delivery (if you can afford food that is). What a lovely choice to have.

AlternativePerspective · 23/04/2020 21:48

So if you don’t agree with it then don’t watch it. It’s not that hard is it?

I think the Daily Mail is a pile of shite, most of which is made up or extorted from people. So I don’t read it. Job done.

formerbabe · 23/04/2020 21:52

I don't really care but I am confused...I've read many posts from nhs workers who say they're so busy they don't take their breaks yet some seem to have time to choreograph and perform dance routines...

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 23/04/2020 21:53

Reminding us of the teams and the smiles we used to share with the crazy sense of humour that only nurse friends can share

Excellent. Share privately. Do what you want. Don't parade yourselves on social media because you will be the ones losing people's respect.

Fuck me! Lockdown is clearly taking it’s toll on many!

Let’s just take a minute to appreciate how lucky we are to have a free and effective health service and let’s also remind ourselves that the staff, at the VERY LEAST are entitled to some light relief from their incredibly tough shifts.

First world bitch problems - my God 😶

Celebrate our NHS & stay safe 🌈🤩

Stilllivinghere · 23/04/2020 22:14

We’re trying very hard to work out how to treat patients.

I’m a risk to you and you are a risk to me. Every patient that comes into the hospital increases that risk. It’s not as easy as just starting up again. Think about the number of people normally in a hospital, every clinic appointment every X-ray, scan and blood test.

Stilllivinghere · 23/04/2020 22:26

Bounceyflouncey- yes I have considered leaving actually. As I have 2 children under 5 and a change of childcare option now means I’m not actually “earning” anything. I’m lucky to have a high earning DP so we could easily afford for me not to work. However, I just can’t leave now. It’s a really shitty thing to do.

Lemonblast · 23/04/2020 22:26

Leigh I’m sure there are many, many HCPs reading this thread who are very RELIEVED that you don’t work alongside them. In fact it’s probably not just HCPs GrinGrin

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 23/04/2020 22:34

@Lemonblast and many more who will be happy I am. I just can't be doing with narcissistic twats HCP or not.

MrsKypp · 23/04/2020 23:59

@MadameTuffington

Let’s just take a minute to appreciate how lucky we are to have a free and effective health service

This is part of the problem why the NHS hasn't been modernised to keep up with health care in e.g. Germany.

We are constantly reminded to be lucky that we have free health care (except that it isn't free - we pay for it via NI and tax don't we).

As for being effective, yes it can be great, but it can also be way below what such a wealthy country should be providing (due to underfunding, mismanagement etc etc)

I'm fed up of being told I should feel lucky because the NHS is free.

Germans get free health care and it's MUCH more effective. They get quick and easy access to specialists, there are far more beds, ventilators, ECMO etc etc

Rachie1973 · 24/04/2020 00:27

I’m in supported housing, we’re locked down. We’re bored. We’ve banned visitors, residents aren’t allowed in the communal areas. So the garden has become our stage. We sing, we dance, we’re stupid and our residents laugh and join in.

I can’t be annoyed at the NHS staff boosting their own spirits.

Justneedaprivaterant · 24/04/2020 04:48

In my experience they're filmed before or after the shift starts or on break. Unless you're on the front line you have no idea what we're going through every day. I'd much rather participate in a silly dance to boost my spirit than sit sobbing like I have been recently. Give us a break. We're doing the best we can in horrendous circumstances
