I couldn't see another tread on this. But if there is, please link it.

What's your opinion on this? AIBU to think this is in very bad taste?

*Absolutely no pan clanging or clapping from this house at all, never have and never will.

I had my first look on fb in weeks this morning. The people sharing the nurses, doctors etc dancing are the same in my road that have been out bashing the crap out of their kitchen utensils, clapping like demented loons, beeping car horns and letting off fireworks. The same people who've been mixing households because the 'rules' do not apply to them...*

Oh don't start this. And don't tell me they probably voted tory and probably Brexit..... Go away.

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 12:40

The NHS is an outdated, underfunded, and mismanaged monopoly that is letting FAR too many people of this country suffer and die due to its inflexible and stubborn out of date ways

Yep, but no one will touch it to try and make improvements or dare to criticise it because politically that would be suicide. It's scandalous really.

sleepingpup · 23/04/2020 12:43

In fact, my experience (and that of family members) of the NHS has been so appalling and traumatic that my DH and I decided to opt for private healthcare insurance. Best thing we’ve done, to be honest.

Good for you. Do they treat they treat Covid 19 privately?

I have absolutely no idea about their political leanings or how they voted in the Brexit debacle, why would I? I generally don't discuss politics with neighbours.

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 12:47

The NHS staff are the kindest and most compassionate people around

Absolutely not in my experience at all. Although I have encountered many NHS staff who were indeed kind and compassionate. Certainly not all.

I cant say the same for some of the patients who are downright abusive

I can’t even imagine the abuse some NHS employees put up with. It is unacceptable and unfortunately happens often.

Our hospital has had complaints re the most ridiculous things

I have recently made a complaint to the hospital which I received care from, although for gross negligence, not “ridiculous things”.

On the other hand, my mum is one of those people who have been brought up to worship the NHS and essentially to be grateful for any care which she receives. To the extent that she refused to make a complaint about any of the many health care professionals who failed to diagnose a break (in three places) to her back for well over a year. She was instead diagnosed as having a muscular strain, depression and was even accused of embellishing her pain. And yes, she is out clapping for the “NHS heroes”.

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 12:57

I’m not sure @sleepingpup, I don’t have Covid 19, but I’m sure if I contracted it I wouldn’t know because I wouldn’t be tested and would be advised to stay at home until the moment whereby my breathing was so laboured, that I might be admitted. On the other hand, I might just end up dying at home, you know, given how busy the NHS staff are treating patients and making up dance routines.

What I do know, however, is that my second child will be delivered safely and that me and him will not almost die due to staff negligence. And that I will receive adequate post natal care and not develop PTSD again. So good for me, absolutely!

Cornettoninja · 23/04/2020 13:01

It’s becoming increasingly clear that some people on aren’t just unable to tolerate social media but they’re fundamentally opposed to the NHS anyway? Hmm

I find their delight at the opportunity created by a few people dancing to have a good old bash far more distasteful than the actual dancing.

Fine, fuck the NHS. Let’s just shut it down and see how we all get on. Or maybe this is the perfect time to implement a completely new healthcare system. Yup, that’s much more sensible. Couldn’t have picked a better time.

Xenia · 23/04/2020 13:04

For most people there is no NHS Covid 19 help so saying save the NHS is a bit ridiculous. I have seen a GP once in 15 years for 7 minutes which will have cost me at least £100k in tax for that one appointment.

As I am not male old or fat it is very likely if I got CCovid 19 I would have no GP access. 111 would not answer the phone. An ambulance would not come unless I as virtually dead and 90% (in NY and elsewhere) de on ventilators anyway. Plenty of those we save will be back in hospital next year with other conditions arising from their age (and of course I don't blame them for being old) or weight and that is fine - I support a basic NHS but nothing like such a huge one as we have nor the massive taxes we pay for a service many of us cannot access or do not need.

Tink88 · 23/04/2020 13:06

Thankfully it wasn't teachers dancing

" I'm sure" oh give over.

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 13:10

@Cornettoninja but this is exactly it, it's not a crime to complain about the NHS, it's not an attack on individual nurses or doctors, or any other staff; but people have had bad experiences, and it's acceptable to be pissed off about it. People have a right to think it's ridiculous to be posting videos like this without it meaning that they don't care about HCPs. No other country has such a weird relationship with their healthcare system.

WilburIsSomePig · 23/04/2020 13:11

Wow. You have no idea when you, or someone you care about, may need the NHS. I hadn't been for a GP appointment for over ten years until last year. I had cancer and I bloody well needed the NHS then and I still do. My daughter wasn't old or fat or male when she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 2.

It's not just about what you need (well it sounds like it is for you tbh), but society as a whole.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 13:12

I don’t just dislike NHS workers doing it. I watched a tick tokmof a police officer attention seeker that I know that did a dance (she is a dancer/gymnast) in full PPE in front of a police vehicle. She is in the COVID body recovery team and it was highly inappropriate to out that on open social media (putting it mildly).

Funnily enough, it was removed soon after.

Professionals need to stop and think about how these images are perceived.

WilburIsSomePig · 23/04/2020 13:12

@Tink88 GrinGrin Oh can you imagine?

FrippEnos · 23/04/2020 13:14

Unusualbloodgroup

my point is that doing TikTok videos in PPE is not patient centred. That’s my point, I am not sure how else I can explain it. The patient should be at the centre of everything.

It may not be patient centred but it keeps the moral of the staff up and that aids in doing the job.

Randomness12 · 23/04/2020 13:15

Get a grip. It’s a temporary, brief moral boost which is being shared to remind people that NHS staff are human too. Something you could well do with remembering.

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 13:15

They’re having a terrible time. Begrudging them a bit of light relief is the epitome of mean spiritedness.

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 13:17

Fine, fuck the NHS. Let’s just shut it down and see how we all get on

No one has suggested that at all, but the NHS is not, and should not, be beyond reproach. Nor is it staffed by angels, just people. Good and bad.

Kinneddar · 23/04/2020 13:17

The NHS staff are the kindest and most compassionate people around

I hate sweeping generalisations like this. Just because you work for the NHS you dont automatically become a saint. As in every single work environment there are people who are perfectly suited to the job & do a wonderful job. There are also ones who are an embarrassment and lacking in the skills needed.

missyB1 · 23/04/2020 13:17

Is it too much to ask professionals to act in a professional way when portraying themselves to the public? The reason why NHS staff are supposed to be careful on social media is because it affects the public perception of them, and that matters.
I was in nursing for 26 years, we had many many laughs, but we were very careful how we behaved in front of patients and the public.
Dh is a hospital consultant and just rolls his eyes and cringes at these sort of videos. He thinks they are unprofessional - I agree.

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 13:19

@sleepingpup 👍🏻

GREATAUNT1 · 23/04/2020 13:25

They're just ordinary people the same as everyone else, doing a job that they choose. There's some fantastic NHS staff as well as some absolute cunts, just the same as you get in every job. I'd rather die surrounded by people laughing (providing they weren't torturing me) than miserable people.

SuperlativeScrubs · 23/04/2020 13:27

Dancing in a hospital corridor next door to grieving relatives and the dying is shit, but clanging pots on doorsteps near carehomes and community hospitals (and nextdoor to people) who are dying or their grieving relatives purely for narcissistic asspats is just fine and dandy.

Got it Hmm

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 13:29

Scrubs I think that should also stop. And police vehicles going to hospitals on a Thursday night and sounding their sirens. It’s completely OTT and starting to be bad PR.
