I'm just nosey and wonder which industries are classed as key workers other than the NHS Police Fire Brigade and Shop Staff.

I know of 3 in my family.

Armed Forces
Social Worker
Dog Unit Support

Rest of the family are working from home but aren't key workers so can't actually go out to work.

@louise5754I don’t think you’re thick at all. I think you’ve asked a very pertinent question and have made things clearer for me too. I do business support freelance so can wfh btw.

Rented Property maintenance contractor.

If you have water coming through your kitchen ceiling from the bathroom above , do you want me to attend ?

I think some people had thought vast numbers of jobs did not exist and that most people were sitting at home being paid by the state when many are having to find childcare and having to work. it's really really difficult for lots of people.

Justploddingon · 24/04/2020 18:40

Teaching assistant providing childcare for key workers children, daughter is a supermarket delivery driver and partner back at work in a distribution centre on Monday.

catinb0oots · 24/04/2020 20:26

My best mate is a shepherdess - it's her busiest time of year

Animum2 · 25/04/2020 11:55

Forgot to add that our company has been classified ad essential by the government (that's what work say anyway) I have a letter showing that I'm a key worker from our CEO

ToftyAC · 25/04/2020 13:40

My DP is a SAHD and was starting to job hunt when lockdown happened. I run all the admin for a manufacturer who supplies a company who make health testing and medical equipment. I can do a lot from home, but accounts & wages need to be run from the office. I currently do 2 instead of 5 days.

Jekyllandhydesmother · 25/04/2020 18:11

Social worker

But actually we're mostly all wfh where we can with video visits etc. However each case is thoroughly talked through with a manager. If there's even a remote chance that we feel physical visits are needed then thats agreed. Massive lack of PPE though.

oldfatandtired1 · 25/04/2020 18:14

Telecoms engineer. Happy to work, my patch is very rural, don’t see a soul.

schoolcook · 25/04/2020 20:17

As my user name suggests I'm a school cook 😁
100% vulnerable students so working as usual albeit with lower numbers.
Incredibly grateful to still have a job.

Monstermunch67 · 26/04/2020 09:06

My son is a security guard at a high end handbag factory. He was offered even more shifts due to the lockdown..

Doobydoo · 26/04/2020 09:31

Nurse..Nursing Home

Doobydoo · 26/04/2020 09:39

I think i read re work if people can keep 2m apart it is ok(obv exceptions to this if in healthcare etc) I also think some people are to scared to go to work so if they can't they don't.

Doobydoo · 26/04/2020 09:40

too

Doobydoo · 26/04/2020 09:42

Blimmin heck! I mean..if they are able to manage not going to work then they will avoid going in! Apologies for poorly typed original post.

zozozoe · 26/04/2020 11:54

God I’m sick of supermarket workers sneering at people for not just buying gruel.

St3v3 · 04/05/2020 23:03

I am a carer for people with learning disabilities. The people we look after come under the “vulnerable “ category. They still need support but find it difficult to stay in so much and become agitated.
