I'm just nosey and wonder which industries are classed as key workers other than the NHS Police Fire Brigade and Shop Staff.

I know of 3 in my family.

Armed Forces
Social Worker
Dog Unit Support

Rest of the family are working from home but aren't key workers so can't actually go out to work.

DH is a minister. He can do most of the pastoral work from home, but still has to go out to take funerals. I do admin work for a charity but I wfh normally anyway, so the only difference is trying to do it with DD around.

I'm a domestic violence practitioner. And clinical counsellor. Trying to work from home.

soupmaker · 23/04/2020 21:29

DH is a fire alarm engineer so he's still working on critical buildings, mostly NHS. Most of his workmates have been furloughed.

I'm WFH full time and attempting to care for and school the kids. Massive fail at all of that.

Workingmum34 · 23/04/2020 21:30

Deputy head at a secondary school. In on a rota with our key worker kids and most vulnerable.

When at home working usual hours - 7-6 then 7-10 in evening. Had 5 meetings today with people I work with.

I’m sure it wasn’t intended as an exhaustive list, but there are some high priority areas of law, which are made even more so by the lockdown

@SharkBrilliant
Definitely wasn’t an exhaustive list; it was in response to a previous poster asking why lawyers need to work - having used two types of solicitors the last 4 weeks, I know they are required and their work is priority.

Xenia · 23/04/2020 22:08

Loads of reasons lawyers need to work and also remember the law says everyone can and should work unless in rare cases they could work from home they should do that and secondly that some areas of work - very limited eg pubs must close. Everyone else is keeping the nation going and paying the wages of nurses through their taxes by working very hard indeed.

Peccary · 23/04/2020 22:39

Scientist working on making Covid tests (in addition to our "day job"). Luckily I only have to go in once a week but very busy at home.

cacaca · 23/04/2020 22:43

Oil & gas industry - people love to slate it but you’d soon know if it completely shut down.

Laythelawdown · 23/04/2020 22:43

Probation officer - pretty much business as usual.

maddy68 · 23/04/2020 22:46

Hmm this is interesting. My landscape gardener shut down on March 24th & says he can’t come back until ‘things change’. The garden is a bloody mess as it was a massive job. To be fair, Jewson’s are closed so getting delivery of stone, patio etc isn’t happening anyway.. all very confusing...
